vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this 1974 Z28 Camaro Type LT that is in excellent driver condition and priced to sell. This Z28 has been tastefully freshened up and enhanced with a professional repaint and complete engine rebuild with performance in mind to 383 ci and approximately 425HP. One of the most beneficial improvements made was the addition of a Tremec 5 speed transmission with overdrive. That is probably the single greatest upgrade one could make to the drivability of a classic car like this, which makes an immense difference especially on the highway. This Z28 is very solid with straight lines. It looks great, runs awesome, and is an awesome driver. While this Z28 is technically "numbers matching" as the last 6 digits of the VIN appear on the engine pad, we cannot verify the authenticity of the stampings, which are pictured below. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Z28 that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. This Z28 is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Medium Red Metallic over Black this is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the code on the trim tag, which is pictured below. Please peruse all of the photos and video below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Camaro really is.

As a side note, this Camaro is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Z28, just give us a call.

model description

A 1974 saw the Camaro finally bow to federal bumper guidelines. This required a major facelift on the Camaro. Rather than place an I-beam ram on the front of the car, Chevy was able to tactfully craft a bumper which met the requirements and still looked relatively stylish - to some people. In addition to this, a new, now fiberglass front end nose was required. In the back, a matching aluminum bumper was used, along with wrap around teardrop style tail lights. This change required a redesign of the rear quarter panel and trunk as well.

1974 Type LT - Plusher Interior with restyled seats and door trim in cord-ridge fabric or knit vinyl, new wood grain treatments, color coordinated instrument panel, steering wheel and column. Amberlite insulation blankets included in doors, rear quarters, roof/sail panels, behind rear seat, under package tray and under carpeting.

numbers

item number description
VIN 1S87T4N179090 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "S" is the model level, correct for a Type LT.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, T, correct for an 350ci Z28 car.  The sixth digit, "4," indicates the model year, 1974.  The "N" is the plant where the car was produced, Norwood.  The last five digits are a sequence number for each plant so this is the 79,090th Camaro made in Norwood for 1974.
Body Build Date 03C "03" is the third month of the year and "C" is the third week of the month meaning this Camaro's body build date is the third week of March, 1974.
Engine Code V0305 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MU plant.  The "03" is the third month of year and the "05" is the fifth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on March 5, 1974.
Suffix Code CLJ This is the code for a Z28 Camaro with the 350ci engine and manual transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 179090 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 179090, are stamped on the engine pad.
Engine Block Casting Number 3790010 The engine block has the correct 3790010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date I 21 8 "I" is September, "21" is the twenty-first day of the month, and "8" is the last digit of the calendar year, 1978.  This stamping would not be correct for a 1974 model year vehicle.

condition

Exterior

The Medium Red Metallic exterior is in terrific driver condition. A professional repaint was completed approximately 5 years ago and still shows very well. All of the Z28 badging and window trim is in great condition as well. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a nice gloss, good shine, and smooth finish. Often many Z28 Camaro's will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not. Both bumpers are in nice condition with good shine. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some very small blemishes that were too small to faint up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from five feet away. The Indy Firehawk 500 tires are like new sized 225/60/15. The factory rally wheels are excellent shape with no curb rash and look splendid. All weather stripping is in great usable condition. Trunk is solid and complete and nicely detailed with trunk mat, spare tire, jack, and jack accessories. Also located in the trunk is a 12 cd disk changer that works in conjunction with the in dash JVC head unit. While we believe that this Camaro came new from the factory without the Z28 stripes, a brand new GM licensed Z28 stripe kit can be purchased from Phoenix Graphics for $289 if the future owner prefers that look.

The Z28 looks just as good in person as it does in the photos

Interior

The interior of this Z28 looks splendid. The seats look in person just as they do in the photos with no excessive wear. There is one small spot on the driver's side and a specific photo below of the area. The carpet is in like new condition with no major stains, rips, or holes. The original dash pad is in great shape with no cracks and is not faded or warped from the sun. The wood trim bezel is in excellent shape and houses newer perfectly working Auto meter gauges. An excellent custom stereo was professionally installed and sounds incredible comprising of a sleek JVC in dash head unit, 12 disc CD changer in trunk with a 600 watt amp. in trunk as well. All interior lights and gauges work as they should as does the blower motor for heater. The windshield wipers also work including the windshield washer which is seldom seen to be operational. The door panels look great with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner and package tray are both in great condition with no sagging or warping. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever. Detail items such as the correctly installing the gauge cluster so the brights indicator works and even the parking brake light, are a testament to the meticulous cars this car has received.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Z28 is in excellent fully restored mechanical condition and all of the accessories work. The car starts right away every time, idles well, and runs great. It is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and highway speeds. The car shifts well and the clutch feels good. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. The speedometer, odometer, oil pressure, fuel, and battery gauges all work as they should. Much care and resources have gone into rebuilding this entire drive line and all mechanicals are in excellent condition. According to the previous owner the following work was done to the car: The original engine was stroked to 383 at a 10.5 compression ratio. Engine upgrades include the following: Keith Black pistons, Scat Cast steel crank with Scat h-beam con rods, Trick Flow pro street cylinder heads with 246/254 duration, crane gold 1.5:1 roller rockers, Edelbrock water pump, Edelbrock fuel pump, Edelbrock Airgap RPM intake manifold, Brand new Holley 750cfm carb., Mallory unilite distributor/MSD digital 6 ignition, Pro-Street 8" crank damper, Cloyes dual roller timing chain, Hi-volume melling oil pump, Jet coated headers, Flowmaster 2.5" exhaust with flowmaster 40 mufflers, Moroso 7 Qt. stroker oil pan, and engine is internally balanced with ARP Fastners. Current horsepower and engine torque numbers are 425HP and 465tq. per included dyno sheet. A Tremec TKO 5 speed overdrive Manual Transmission was also installed replacing the original M21 4 speed to reduce rpm's while cruising and adding the much sought after 5th gear for highway cruising. This upgraded 5 speed transmission really helps this Z28 to effortlessly cruise at highway speeds and drastically improving gas mileage in the process. The suspension was also upgraded on this Z28 including: Energy suspension polyurethane bushings, competition engineering subframe connectors, Eibach 1" lowering front springs, 5 leaf HD rear springs, and new ball joints and tie rod ends. There is occasionally a noise like pinging so the car might benefit from some higher octane fuel and a whine that is constant with wheel speed. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the 5-speed transmission on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1974 Type LT Z28 is in excellent driver condition. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. It would be impossible to build this car as it sits today for anywhere near our asking price. This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort
