Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this absolutely beautiful 1979 Z28 that is in terrific original condition and priced to sell. This Survivor Z28 features the numbers matching original 350 engine and original 4-speed transmission. Throughout the entire F-Body market right now, this is one of the nicest and most desirable Camaros available. One item that makes this Z28 extremely rare is the fact that it was ordered from the factory without a radio and amazingly the dash still remains in as delivered condition, meaning the dash has not be altered in any way and is factory correct radio delete option. One can only imagine how rare this original uncut radio delete dash is. This Z28 is very solid and clean as one can see in the many photos of the underside and other specific photos of the areas most prone to rust. The Z28 looks great, runs awesome, and is fun to drive, especially rowing through the gears on a beautiful day. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Z28 that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. This Z28 is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Carmine Red over Black Deluxe cloth interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured below. Please peruse all of the photos, ten minute video, and the list of numbers below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and original this Camaro really is.

As a side note, this Camaro is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Camaro, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description
VIN 1Q87L9N523973 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Q" is the model level, correct for Z28.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, L, correct for an 350ci car.  The sixth digit, "9," indicates the model year, 1979.  The "N" is the plant where the car was produced, Norwood, OH.  The last five digits are a sequence number for each plant so this is the 23,973rdd Camaro made in Norwood for 1979.
Body Build Date 11A "11" is the eleventh month of the year and "A" is the first week of the month meaning this Camaro's body build date is the first week of Novemebr, 1978.
Engine Code V1023 "V" means the engine was built in the Flint, MI plant.  The "10" is the tenth month of year and the "23" is the twenty-third day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on October 23, 1978.
Suffix Code DRF This is the code for a Camaro with the 350ci engine and a manual transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 523973 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 523973, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the 3970010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date J 20 8 "J" is October, "20" is the twentieth day of the month, and "8" is 1978 so the engine block was cast on October 20, 1978.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14007376 The intake manifold is correct with a 14007376 casting number.
Intake Manifold Casting Date J 21 8 "J" is October, "21" is the twenty-first day of the month, and "8" is 1978 so the intake was cast on October 21, 1978.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Distributor 1103353 The distributor is correct with 1103353 stamped on the housing.
Distributor Date Code 8 H 30 The "8" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "H" denotes August, and "30" is the thirtieth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on August 30, 1978.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Carburetor Main Body

17058203

The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 1979 350ci Chevrolet with no a/c and manual transmission.  The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built for 1976-79 production run.  The fifth digit,  "8," means it was built in 1978 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The eighth digit, "3" means it was built for a car with a manual transmission.
Carburetor Date Code 1248 The first three digits, "124" indicate the 124th day of the year.  The last digit, "8" is the year it was produced, 1978.  So the carb  was stamped on May 4, 1978.
Transmission Date Stamp WK2782 The "W" indicates this is a Borg Warner transmission.  The "K" is the month it was made, October. The "27" is the twenty seventh day of the month.  The "8" is the year, 1978. The last "2" indicates that it was made during the second shift. So the transmission was made on October 27, 1978.
Transmission Casting Date 9.26.78 The transmission has 9.26.78 cast into the main case, which indicates September 26, 1978.
Transmission VIN Stamp 523973 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 523973, are stamped on the main case of the transmission meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Driver's Window YJ "Y" is October and "J" is 1978 so this window is original, made in October of 1978.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger's  Window YJ "Y" is October and "J" is 1978 so this window is original, made in October of 1978.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear  Window UJ "U" is July and "J" is 1978 so this window is original, made in July of 1978.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Carmine Red exterior is in beautiful condition. One professional repaint with new decals was performed on this Z28 and it looks and shows very well. The decals are correct GM replacements and really look splendid on the car. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a brilliant gloss, great shine, and smooth finish. Often times many Z28 Camaro's will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not, both bumpers are in great condition with no spider webbing or flaking paint. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are a few blemishes around the car that were too faint to show up in the photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. The Hoosier tires are sized 225/70/15 with approximately 90% tread left. The original rally wheels and center caps are in excellent shape and shine nicely with a nice finish and no curb rash. All of the weather stripping is in great usable condition including trunk seal, window sweeps, door seals and window seals. The trunk is very solid and rust free and nicely detailed with fresh correct trunk paint and new correct trunk mat.

The Camaro looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that the side and rear glass on this car is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of the first week of November 1978 (11A). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The original Black deluxe cloth interior of this Z28 looks splendid. The seat covers look great with no rips, split seems, or signs of excessive wear, although there are two tiny holes on the drivers seat inside the seat bun seam due to age. Please note that these appear to be the original seat covers not some cheap aftermarket replacements. The carpet appears to be recently replaced and is in excellent condition with no major stains, tears, or holes. The original dash is in great condition with one very small blemish on the lower left hand corner on the drivers side and is barely visible. The top of the dash has no cracks or fading, or sun damage and is in very nice well preserved condition. The very rare radio delete dash still remains factory correct and amazingly unmolested after all these years preserving the rarity of this fine Z28. All of the interior lights and gauges work as they should, with the obvious exception of the clock. The door panels look nice with no excessive wear, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The Headliner appears to be recently replaced and is in excellent shape with no stains or sagging. The package tray appears to be original and is in great condition with no fading or warping. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever. Z28 interiors are not know to wear well and the excellent condition of this original interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Z28 is in great mechanical condition and all of the accessories work. Much care has gone into keeping this car in excellent original condition and factory correct and this Z28 is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs excellent. The car shifts well and the clutch feels good. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. The horn is currently not working but all the interior and exterior lights, all gauges(except clock), wipers, and blower for the heater work as they should. The speedometer, tachometer, odometer, oil pressure, fuel, and battery gauges all work as they should. This Z28 has true dual exhaust with no catalytic converter and has a nice healthy exhaust note at idle and cruising speeds. This Z28 was recently tuned up with new spark plug wires, fine tuning carb. adjustments, and timing dialed in. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the 4-speed transmission on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1979 Z28 is in very nice well preserved original condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Chevrolet pricing, especially with rare options like the 4-Speed transmission and radio delete option. The originality, rarity, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these second generation "F-Body" cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson and Mecum stars of the future. While the mileage at 34,750 is completely believable as original based on the condition of the car, due to titling procedure the title shows the mileage as nonactual. Some states do not record mileage on vehicles older than a certain age where they are "exempt." This Camaro can from one of those states that exempts mileage on older cars so when it was titled in Ohio the mileage could not be recorded as "Actual" even though based on items like the original interior, we believe the mileage is probably original. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
