vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this numbers matching 1968 Corvette Convertible in excellent driver condition. This Corvette looks great, runs awesome, and is a wonderful driver that feels great on the road. This Corvette is "Numbers Matching" meaning that the engine that is in the car now is the same one that was installed in the car new at the factory. The last six digits of the VIN, 408795, are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below.

This Corvette is finished in the rare and very striking color combination of Corvette Bronze (992) over Dark Orange (425) interior. Everyone who sees this car comments on the color. This is the correct and original color combination as verified by the codes on the trim tag. We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable Corvette at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on "chrome bumper" C3 Corvettes from 1968-1972 is absolutely red hot right now. Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of how nice this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

condition

Exterior

The Corvette Bronze exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has fantastic gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely. The P01 wheel covers are an excellent complement to the looks of this car. The tires appear to have about 90% tread left. The convertible top looks good and also operates well. The rear window is not yellowed or foggy. There is one small slit in the top on the driver's side with a specific photo of the spot below. There is a small chip from the left window. There are some small imperfections around the car that are too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. We have included many photos of the underside of the car to show how clean it is. This Corvette has NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire and we have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield or "birdcage." These are the most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

This Corvette looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette, both of the the "Astro Ventilation" door glass and even the windhshield, is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of January 10, 1968 (F10). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Dark Orange interior of the Corvette is in wonderful condition overall and appears to be completely original. The seats look in person just as they do in the photos. Please note that these are the original seats and vinyl skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. There is some wear on the drivers seat visible in the photos. The carpet is in nice condition as well with no rips, tears, or holes and also appears to be original. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The dash and console are in great shape with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. The door panels are in good condition with no cracks in the typical area where the driver's elbow sits. The radio works and gets good receptions. Most importantly, it has a Corvettes specific unit that was made for this car so the dash has never been cut or modified. The clam shell is still on the car, but there is no spare inside or jack. These Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well over time and the terrific condition of this all original interior is a testament to the care and attention this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The engine starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. The car is a great driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations, the brakes do not pull, and the car performs quite well overall. The gauge shows that the engine makes great oil pressure. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. There is no blue smoke from the exhaust. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The car has a great exhaust note from the sidepipes.

The exterior lights, indicators, horn, power windows, and wipers all work. The blower motor for the heater works on all speeds. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works from both of their respective switches on the dash and override switches; their complete operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. The speedometer works, but the odometer does not. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with top down out on a beautiful day.

A note on the fiber optic light monitoring system. We consistently receive many questions about the purpose of this system; exactly what it is and what it does. The sole and main idea behind the fiber optic light monitoring system is to simply confirm that all of the exterior lights, headlights, indicators, tail lights, etc., are working and to make the driver aware of a a burned out bulb. Each lamp on the outside of the car has an actual fiber optic cable the runs to an indicator on the center console. There are nine small indicators on the console and each has its own finer optic cable. When the bulb goes on the light travels through the fiber optic cable and illuminates the corresponding indicator on the console. If someone does not remember to plug the cable end into the lamp housing, does any work to the center console, or if there is a break in a connection or anywhere along the cable, that indicator no longer works. As one can image, over time this is very common.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1968 Corvette Convertible is in wonderful driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission codes, and transmission VIN stamp. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
