vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is glad to offer this beautiful numbers matching 1971 Corvette Coupe in nice driver condition and absolutely loaded with options such as air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, P02 Deluxe Wheel Covers, and tilt/telescopic steering column. This Corvette looks good, runs well, and drives nice. This Corvette's engine "Numbers Matching" with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below, and the engine is original to the car. We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable Corvette at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 "chrome bumper" Corvettes from 1968 to 1972 is absolutely red hot right now and on the rise. Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of how nice this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 194371S115471 The first digit, "1," indicates the Chevrolet division of GM. The "94" is the series, V8 Corvette. The "37" is the body style, sport coupe. The sixth digit, "1," indicates the model year, 1971. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 15,471st Corvette made for 1971.
Body Build Date I23  "I" corresponds to April, and the "23" is the twenty-third day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is April 23, 1971.
Engine Code V0329 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "03" is the third month of year and the "29" is the twenty-ninth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on March 29, 1971.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CJK This means the motor was intended for a 350ci 270hp Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 115471 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 115471, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has a correct 3790010 casting number a small block 1971 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date C 25 1 "C" is third month of the year, the "25" is the twenty-fifth day of the month, and the "1" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on March 25, 1971.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Distributor 1112050 This number was hard to read, but appears to show a 1112050 stamping, which would be correct for a 1971 270hp Corvette.
Exterior Color Code 983 The code "983" indicates Brands Hath Green, which is correct for this car.
Interior Trim Code 423 The code "423" indicates Green Vinyl, which is correct for this car.
Exhaust Manifold Left 3846559 The left exhaust manifold has a correct 3846559 casting number.
Exhaust Manifold Right 3989036 The right exhaust manifold has a correct 3989036 casting number.
Carburetor 7041212 The carburetor is correct and original for a 1971 270hp Corvette with a 7041212 stamping. The "70" is a code used on all Rochester carbs from 1965-1975. The third digit, "4," indicates it was made in the 1970 to 1975 production run. The fourth digit, "1," is the model year, 1971. The fifth digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL Quadrajet carb. The sixth digit, "1," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "2," means it was intended for use with an automatic transmission , which is correct for this car.
Carburetor Date Code 1041 The first three digits, "104," indicate the 104th day of the year. The last digit, "1," is the year in which the carburetor was produced, 1971.  So this carburetor was stamped on April 14, 1971.
Windshield GN The "G" is April and the "N" is 1971 so this window is original, made in April of 1971. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver's Window LN The "L" is March and the "N" is 1971 so this window is original, made in March of 1971. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger Window LN The "L" is March and the "N" is 1971 so this window is original, made in March of 1971. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Brands Hatch Green exterior is in decent driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has a nice gloss and deep shine. The wheels and center caps are in good condition with a great finish. The Goodyear Eagle tires have plenty of tread left. The chrome and other bright work shows well overall for a driver. The car basically looks in person as it does in the photos, but if at all possible I would encourage any buyer to look at the car in person. There are imperfections around the car that are visible in the photos. As with many early C3 Corvettes, the door glass on the driver's side could be adjusted to fit better. We have included many photos of the underside to show how it looks.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette, both "Astro Ventilation" side windows, the windshield, and even the pop-out rear window are all date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of April 23, 1971 (I23). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Green interior of the Corvette is in terrific condition. The seats are in excellent shape and look just as good in person just as they do in the photos with no rips, split seams, or excessive wear. The carpet is in nice condition as well with no stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The gauges faces are crisp and the lenses are clear. The radio works, and most importantly the dash has never been cut or modified for the installation. The dash is in great shape with no fading or sun damage. The door panels are in good condition. This Corvette has not been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes at all.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. It starts right away every time and runs well. The car is a nice driver that feels good the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving. The car runs cool and does not overheat. The transmission shifts well. There is a bit of play in the steering. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is clean and nicely detailed as one can see in the photos. The air conditioning works and one can see the a/c compressor engaging properly in the video. The a/c works, but the wheel to turn it on is finicky. The blower motor for the a/c and heater works on all speeds. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock and the oil pressure. Some of the fiber optic system works. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works from both of their respective switches on the dash and override switches; their complete operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. The wipers work, but the switch is touchy. I am sure there may be some bugs to be worked out with the car. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this Corvette, especially with T-tops out on a beautiful day.

A note on the fiber optic light monitoring system. We consistently receive many questions about the purpose of this system; exactly what it is and what it does. The sole and main idea behind the fiber optic light monitoring system is to simply confirm that all of the exterior lights, headlights, indicators, tail lights, etc., are working and to make the driver aware of a a burned out bulb. Each lamp on the outside of the car has an actual fiber optic cable the runs to an indicator on the center console. There are nine small indicators on the console and each has its own finer optic cable. When the bulb goes on the light travels through the fiber optic cable and illuminates the corresponding indicator on the console. If someone does not remember to plug the cable end into the lamp housing, does any work to the center console, or if there is a break in a connection or anywhere along the cable, that indicator no longer works. As one can image, over time this is very common.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1971 Corvette is in good driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, and engine assembly date. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
