vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this beautiful numbers matching 1971 Corvette in excellent driver condition. This Corvette looks great, runs awesome, and is a spectacular driver that feels great out on the road. It just completed a four hour road trip that was over 250 miles and during that time it was completely reliable and ran great. We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable Corvette at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 Corvettes is hot right now and on the rise, this is especially true for the "chrome bumper" cars from 1968-1972. Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of how nice this Corvette really is.

Included with the car are service records from the previous owner totaling thousands of dollars. Most importantly, there is a receipt from November 5, 2001 from D & S Engine Specialists for a complete engine rebuild at a cost of $5,456.34. The receipt also shows the mileage at the time for the engine rebuild, which was 108,336.  That means that there are only about 6,300 miles on the current engine rebuild. A very mild cam was installed during the rebuild to give the car a little more power over stock. As one can observe it the video below it does not lope too much and sounds great. The cam spec card is included. D & S took special care when rebuilding the motor to not machine off the original numbers that prove that the engine is original to the car. In the photo below of the engine pad one can even see the marks on the block from the machining process. This Corvette is "Numbers Matching" meaning that the engine that is in the car now is the same one that was installed in the car new at the factory. The last six digits of the VIN, 120134, are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 194371S120134 The first digit, "1," indicates the Chevrolet division of GM. The "94" is the series, V8 Corvette. The "37" is the body style, sport coupe. The sixth digit, "1," indicates the model year, 1971. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 20,134th Corvette made for 1971.
Body Build Date H23 "H" corresponds to June, and the "23" is the twenty-third day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is June 23, 1971.
Engine Code V0607 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "06" is the sixth month of year and the "07" is the seventh day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on June 7, 1971.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CJK This means the motor was intended for a 350ci 270hp Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 120134 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 120134, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970011 The engine block has a correct 3790011 casting number a 1971 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date F 3 1 "F" is June, "3" is the third day of the month, and "1" is the last digit of the calendar year. So the engine block was cast on June 3, 1971, which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Windshield JN The "J" denotes May and the "N" denotes 1971 meaning the windshield was made in May of 1971. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Drivers Window LN The "L" denotes March and the "N" denotes 1971 meaning the driver's side window was made in March of 1971. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Passenger Window NN The "L" denotes March and the "N" denotes 1971 meaning the passenger side window was made in March of 1971. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Rear Window GN The "G" denotes April and the "N" denotes 1971 meaning the rear window was made in April of 1971. This is correct as it predates the body build date.

condition

Exterior

The red exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has fantastic gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The body is very straight and both doors open and shut nicely. All of the bonding strips are in place. The wheels and center caps are in nice condition with a great finish and no curb rash on the beauty rings. Please note that this car still has the correct and original 4-clip beauty rings, not the cheap foreign made aftermarket replacements. The BF Goodrich Radial TA tires have about 80% tread left. They are correctly sized 225/70R15. The chrome and other bight work on the car looks nice overall with no notable rust or pitting. There are some very faint blemishes in the paint that were too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from five or ten feet away. The bottom of the car is very clean and solid. We have included many photos of the underside to show how nice it is.

This Corvette looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL the glass on this Corvette, the "Astro Ventilation" door glass, the removable rear window, and even the windshield are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of June 23, 1971 (H23). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Black interior of the Corvette is in fantastic condition. The seats look terrific with no split seams or excessive wear. The carpet is in excellent condition with no tears, holes, or stains. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The dash and console are in terrific shape with no fading or sun damage. There is one small crack on the dash, which is visible on the photos and not vey noticeable. The door panels are in good condition. The radio gets good reception and is a Corvette specific unit made for this model year so most importantly the dash was never cut or modified for the aftermarket installation. The spare tire carrier is still on the car, but there is no tire inside. This car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma of cigarettes. Also, please note that the shoulder belts on both sides retract properly. This is a very common problem on this era Corvette and a small, but very important, detail most buyers do not think to check. These Corvette interiors are not known to wear well over time and the nice condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received by its previous owners.

The interior looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition; as stated above the car just made a 250 mile road trip in the past month and it performed great. As one would expect from an engine with only 6,300 miles it starts right away every time, runs great, and idles well. The car is an great driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that it performs quite well overall. The car runs cool and does not overheat. A fresh transmission from Coan Racing was installed when the engine was rebuilt and has a nice crisp shift. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast; noticeably quicker than a stock 1971 Corvette. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct as one can see in the photos. The headlights go up and down with no effort or binding in the mechanism. The wipers also work from the vacuum override switch as one can see in the video below. The blower motor for the heater and a/c works on all speeds except high. The a/c system is totally complete and there is a belt on the compressor, which is not locked up, but the a/c does not work so the system most likely needs to be recharged. All of the gauges work; even the clock runs and keeps times. Some of the fiber optics work. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with T-Tops out on a beautiful day.

A note on the fiber optic light monitoring system. We consistently receive many questions about the purpose of this system; exactly what it is and what it does. The sole and main idea behind the fiber optic light monitoring system is to simply confirm that all of the exterior lights, headlights, indicators, tail lights, etc., are working and to make the driver aware of a a burned out bulb. Each lamp on the outside of the car has an actual fiber optic cable the runs to an indicator on the center console. There are nine small indicators on the console and each has its own finer optic cable. When the bulb goes on the light travels through the fiber optic cable and illuminates the corresponding indicator on the console. If someone does not remember to plug the cable end into the lamp housing, does any work to the center console, or if there is a break in a connection or anywhere along the cable, that indicator no longer works. As one can image, over time this is very common..

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1971 Corvette is in great driver condition with a fresh engine that is ready to be enjoyed. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
