vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this numbers matching 1971 Corvette in excellent driver condition and loaded with options such as A/C, power steering, and tilt/telescopic steering column. This Corvette looks great, runs well, and is a wonderful driver. The car is finished in the beautiful color combination of Classic White (972) over Black Leather (403) interior. This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, pictured below.. This Corvette is "Numbers Matching" meaning that the engine that is in the car now is the same one that was installed in the car new at the factory. The last six digits of the VIN, 113631, are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below.

I have personally put over 50 miles on this Corvette and during that time it drove great and was completely reliable. The car was purchased by the second owner; she had owned the car since 1985. We have this Stingray priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable Corvette at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on "chrome bumper" C3 Corvettes from 1968-1972 is absolutely red hot right now. Please peruse all of the photos, video, the extensive list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of how nice this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 194371S113631 The first digit, "1," indicates the Chevrolet division of GM. The "94" is the series, V8 Corvette. The "37" is the body style, sport coupe. The sixth digit, "1," indicates the model year, 1971. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 13,631st Corvette made for 1971.
Body Build Date H31 "H" corresponds to March, and "31" is the thirty-first day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is March 31, 1971.
Engine Code V0310 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "03" is the third month of year and the "10" is the tenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on March 10, 1971.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CDK This means the motor was intended for a 350ci 270hp Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 113631 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 113631, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has a correct 3790010 casting number a 1972 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date C 5 1 "C" is March, "" is the fifth day of the month, and "1" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on March 5, 1971.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 3973469 The intake has the correct 3973469 casting number, which was only used for Corvettes in 1971.
Intake Manifold Casting Date C 6 1 "C" is March, "6" is the sixth day of the month, and "1" is the last digit of the calendar year so this intake was cast on March 6, 1971.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Carburetor 7041212 The "70" is a code used on all Rochester carbs from 1965-1975. The third digit, "4," indicates it was made in the 1970 to 1975 production run. The fourth digit, "1," is the model year, 1971. The fifth digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL Quadrajet carb. The seventh digit, "1," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "2," means it was intended for use in a automatic transmission car so this is not the correct carb number.
Carburetor Date Code 0771 The "077" is the 077th day of the year and the "1" is the last digit of the calendar year so this carb was made on March 18, 1971.
Transmission 71-CK The "72" is the model year, 1972. The "C" means the transmission was made for a Chevrolet vehicle, and the "K" means is was intended for a 350ci Corvette, which is correct for this car.
Transmission Date Code 442 The assembly date code for the 1971 model year starts with the first day of the calendar year in 1970 and continues through the calendar year in 1971. This means "442" is the 442nd day starting with January 1, 1970, which indicates the transmission is dated March 18, 1971.
Transmission VIN Stamping 113631 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 113631, are stamped on the main case of the transmission and pictured below meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Rear Differential AW W 62 E 2 The "AW" is a code that indicates a 3.08:1 gear ration with positraction. The "W" is the assembly plant, Warren, MI. The "62" is the 62nd day of the year, the "E" indicates the positraction source, Eaton, and the "2" is the shift in which the rear end was made. So this rear differential was made in Warren, MI on March 3, 1971 during the second shift.
Drivers Window NN The first "N" denotes January and the second "N" denotes 1971 meaning this window is original, made in January of 1971. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Passenger Window NN The first "N" denotes January and the second "N" denotes 1971 meaning this window is original, made in January of 1971. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Rear Window NN The first "N" denotes January and the second "N" denotes 1971 meaning this window is original, made in January of 1971. This is correct as it predates the body build date.

condition

Exterior

The Classic White exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has fantastic gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The wheels are in great shape with a nice finish and no curb rash. Please note that is Corvette has the correct and original 4-clip style beauty rings, not the cheaper foreign made replacements. The tires have about 80% tread let. The chrome and other bight work is nice and bright with a good finish. There are a few small imperfections around the car that are too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. This Corvette has no rust issues. We have included many photos of the underside of the car and specific photos of the areas most prone to rust. The frame is totally solid around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire and we have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield or "birdcage." These are the most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

This Corvette looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that almost all the glass on this Corvette, the "Astro Ventilation" door glass and even the removable rear window is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of March 31, 1971 (H31). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Black interior of the Corvette is in great condition and appears to be mostly original. The seats look just in person just as they do in the photos with no rips or holes. There is some light wear in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. Please not that these appear to be the original seats and skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet is in good condition condition as well with no holes or stains. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The radio works and gets good reception. The dash is in great shape with no fading or sun damage. The door panels are in nice condition and are not cracked in the normal spot where the driver's elbow sits. The jack and handle are present and stored correctly behind the passenger seat and the spare is still in the clam shell. These Corvette interiors are not known to wear well over time and the nice condition of this mostly original interior is a testament to the care and attention this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. As stated above, I have put over 50 miles on the car with no issues. The previous owner, who purchased the car in 1985, said that the engine has recently been rebuilt and the car has been driven less than 1,000 miles since. The engine starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car is a great driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that the car performs quite well overall. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The exterior lights, interior lights, indicators, and wipers all work. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. The blower motor for the heater and a/c works on all speeds. The a/c works and blows cold. One can see the a/c compressor engaging properly in the video. There is a vibration present at certain rpms. The horn does not work. The vacuum system for the headlights works from both the headlight switch and the override switch under the column. The complete operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with T-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1971 Corvette is in wonderful driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, and transmission codes. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
