vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this completely numbers matching 1971 Corvette in excellent original condition. The car looks greats, runs well, and is a very nice driver. It is amazingly correct and original as one can see from the extensive list of numbers below. This Corvette is priced to sell, always turns heads, and gets a TON of attention going down the road. The market on these chrome bumper Corvettes is red hot right now. This Corvette is in it's original color scheme of Classic White (972) over all original Dark Blue Vinyl (412) as indicated by the trim tag pictured below. Dark Blue is a much more desirable and striking color to go with white compared to the normal black or saddle you usually see. We purchased the car from a gentleman in Ohio who had owned the car for over 20 years. He took excellent care of the car during his ownership and only decided to sell because of some recent health problems. This Corvette is owned free and clear with no liens by Seven Hills Motorcars, the title is NOT branded as salvage or rebuilt. The low original mileage is verified as original not only by the condition of the car, but also the Ohio title, pictured below, stating the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 194371S110977 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "94" is the series, Stingray V8 Corvette.  The "37" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe. The sixth digit, "1," indicates the model year, 1971.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 10,977th Corvette made for 1971.

Engine Code V0208 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "02" is the second month of year and the "08" is the eighth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on February 8, 1971.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Classic White exterior is in good driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has nice gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The all original chrome and other bight work on the car shows well overall. Both doors open and shut nicely and the body gaps on the car look great. The original rivets are still visible for the headlight buckets and the both front fenders appear to be original as they both have the correct dimples in the wheel wells. Overall, I would say this Corvette has great body panel fit for a C3 Corvette. Often many corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not. The underside of the front end is in great condition as evidenced by the photos. There are no major imperfections that have been excluded from the photos. There are some faint blemishes, cracks, and light crazing in the paint that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from five or ten feet away. There is one small chip in the windshield, we decided to let it go since the windshield is original, however if the future owner so desires we can have the windshield replaced for $250. The frame looks very solid as one can see in the photos of the underside of the car. The wheels are in nice condition with a great finish and absolutely no curb rash on the beauty rings.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL the glass on this Corvette, the "Astro Ventilation" door glass, rear glass, and even the windshield are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of February 26, 1971 (G26). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Dark Blue interior of the Corvette is great condition for original. The seats look just in person just as they do in the photos with some expected wear in the typical areas. Please note however, that these seats are the factory originals, not some cheap aftermarket replacements or covers. The carpet is also original and in very nice condition with no tears, holes, or major stains. This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected. The door panels are original as well as do have some cracking. The dash is in great shape with no sun faded or cracking at all. The radio in the car has never been changed or modifed and most importantly the dash has never been cut for an aftermarket installation. The car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma what so ever. The original jack and jack handle are still with the car stowed in the compartment behind seats, pictured below with the original decals on the compartment lips. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well, especially convertibles, and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the care this car has received.

Mechanical

This car seems to be in good mechanical condition . The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car drives great; it feels good the road and at highway speeds. There is a short segment in the video below of the car actually driving on the highway. The transmission shifts smoothly. The car was recently serviced with all new calipers and brake pads so the brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is pretty fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos; please note that it has not been paint-bombed or hastily painted with overspray over everything. The engine compartment just looks nicely cleaned, maintained, and original, which is what we like to see. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, temp gauge, battery gauge, fuel gauge, and wipers. The speedometer and odometer work, but the needle has a broken tip; a brand new speedo needle is included with the car. The tachometer itself works, we have tested it by spinning the cable and tach is functional, however the gear in the distributor is not working to turn the tach cable. A brand new in the box HEI distributor with a tach drive made specially for Corvettes is included with the car. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly from both their respective switches on the dash and override switches; their operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. The blower for the heater and a/c, some of fiber optics, and obviously the clock do not work. There is no belt on the a/c compressor, but it turns freely. The heater core has been bypassed. This car probably sat for a few years before we purchased it so it does have some old car rattles and may have a few bugs to be worked out still, but not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with top down on a beautiful day.

A note on the fiber optic light monitoring system. We consistently receive many questions about the purpose of this system; exactly what it is and what it does. The sole and main idea behind the fiber optic light monitoring system is to simply confirm that all of the exterior lights, headlights, indicators, tail lights, etc., are working and to make the driver aware of a a burned out bulb. Each lamp on the outside of the car has an actual fiber optic cable the runs to an indicator on the center console. There are nine small indicators on the console and each has its own finer optic cable. When the bulb goes on the light travels through the fiber optic cable and illuminates the corresponding indicator on the console. If someone does not remember to plug the cable end into the lamp housing, does any work to the center console, or if there is a break in a connection or anywhere along the cable, that indicator no longer works. As one can image, over time this is very common.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1971 Corvette is in nice driver condition. The car is obviously not prefect and needs a bit of work and have it priced to sell with all of the good points and needs in mind. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block and transmission codes. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector.

The originality, matching numbers, and beautiful color combination make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please email or call with any questions.
