vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is veryproud to offer this beautiful numbers matching 1972 Corvette Convertible with only 29,575 original miles, a 4-Speen manual transmission, and both hard and softtop. This Stingray looks nice, runs great, and drives awesome. It is finished in the highly desirable combination of Mille Miglia Red (973) over Black Vinyl (400). This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag pictured below and the original "Corvette Order Copy" that is also still with the car. This Corvette is completely "Numbers Matching" with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below. The very low mileage is verified as original not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title pictured below that shows the mileage as "Actual."

This Corvette came from the factory equipped with many sought-after options such as the convertible body style, auxiliary hardtop, tilt and telescopic steering column, power steering, power brakes, and the beautiful color combination.

We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable Corvette at an unbeatable value. It is exceptionally rare to find a Corvette from this era with this low mileage. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on "chrome bumper" C3 Corvettes from 1968-1972 is absolutely red hot right now, out of those years we have found the 1969 and 1972 to be most desirable. Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of this Corvette.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1972 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1972 was the last year to feature chrome bumpers and the "egg crate" grill, it is considered to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1972 is considered the last "good" year. It was also the last year to feature a pop out rear window, and the first year that the way horsepower ratings are measured changed from gross to the more accurate net. As in investment, the 1972 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers on any Corvette that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.

item number description*
VIN 1Z67K2S519196 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "67" is the body style, convertible. The fifth digit is the engine, K, correct for a 200hp car. The sixth digit, "2," indicates the model year, 1972. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 19,196th Corvette made for 1972.

Exhaust Manifold RH 3932461 The right exhaust manifold has a 3932461 casting number, which is correct for a 1972 Corvette.

Hardtop Rear Window TN The "T" is August  and the "N" is 1971 so this window is original, made in August of 1971.

condition

Exterior

The Mille Muglia Red exterior is in nice driver condition and looks just in person as it does in the photos. As one can see in the photos the finish has a great gloss, smooth finish, and deep shine. Both doors open and shut nicely. The chrome bumpers and other bright-work shows well overall. The wheels are in great shape with a nice finish. The original style Firestone Wide Oval White Line tires look terrific on the car. They are the period correct bias ply construction, which is noticeable on the road when compared to radials. The convertible top is in amazing condition for being original. The rear window has yellowed and there is one spot on the top right with a specific photo below. The top itself operates well, opens and closes easily, and latches properly. As one can see in the photos the paint does have some checking and other imperfections as would expect from a paintjob with this much age. We have included many photos of the underside of the car to show the condition.

Please note that this Stingray also come with the body colored hardtop. This adds value and is a great benefit to any Corvette convertible. The hardtop came with the car from the factory as indicated by the C07 RPO code on the original "Corvette Order Copy" pictured below.

Window Date Codes

Please note that almost all of the glass on this Stingray, even the hardtop rear window, is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of April 19, 1972 (I19). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Black Vinyl interior in this Corvette is in outstanding original condition. The seats are in excellent shape with no split seams or excessive wear. They are not worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats and skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. They do have the typical dry foam. The carpet is also in fantastic condition with no major stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The door panels are in wonderful shape with no splits. These is a small crack in the typical spot where the driver's elbow sits. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The radio is original and does not work, but most importantly the das has never cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. The jack and jack handle are still with the car, stored correctly behind the passenger seat, and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The spare is still with the car as well. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.

The interior looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs great. The car is a awesome driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that it drives smooth and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The shifter is tight, the transmission does not pop out of gear, and the clutch feels good. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct as one can see in the photos.

The horn works as do all the indicators, wipers, and exterior lights. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly from both their respective switches on the dash and the override switches. The entire operation from both switches can be viewed in the video below. The dash lights work as one can see in the video. The temp gauge does not work, but we have checked the engine temperature with a Snap-On infrared heat gun after a good drive and the car does not overheat. The blower for the heater works on all speeds. The previous owner said that at some point in the past a cam and solid lifters were installed in the engine. There is a tick sound that could be from the lifters. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the 4-Speed and the top down on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1972 Corvette is in exceptional original condition and truly and investment grade car. Low mileage examples in this year range are very rare and draw a huge premium over a standard Corvette. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now, and out of those years 1969 and 1972 are the most desireable. The very low miles, the condition, the great extent to which the numbers match, and the beautiful color combination make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
