vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is glad to offer this very original numbers matching 1972 Corvette Coupe loaded with options and with very low original mileage. This Corvette runs and drives great. It is finished in the rare and highly desirable combination of Targa Blue (979) over Blue Vinyl (412). This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag pictured below. This Corvette is completely "Numbers Matching" with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below, and the engine is original to the car. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below. The mileage is verified as original not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title pictured below that shows the mileage as "Actual."

This Corvette came from the factory equipped with many sought-after options such as air conditioning, tilt and telescopic steering column, power steering, power brakes, power windows, and the beautiful color combination.

We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable Corvette at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on "chrome bumper" C3 Corvettes from 1968-1972 is absolutely red hot right now, out of those years we have found the 1969 and 1972 to be most desirable. Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of this Corvette.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1972 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1972 was the last year to feature chrome bumpers and the "egg crate" grill, it is considered to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1972 is considered the last "good" year. It was also the last year to feature a pop out rear window, and the first year that the way horsepower ratings are measured changed from gross to the more accurate net. As in investment, the 1972 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

condition

Exterior

The Targa Blue exterior looks just in person as it does in the photos and is in decent driver condition. The paintjob does have a nice shine and a good gloss. Both doors open and shut nicely. The chrome bumpers and other bright-work shows well overall. The wheels are in good shape with a nice finish. The Goodyear tires are newer and have about 80% tread left. As one can see in the photos the paint does have some checking and other imperfections; there are also some scratches visible on the left headlight. We have included many photos of the underside of the car to show the condition, some small rust is present. There is a tiny chip on the windshield.

Window Date Codes

Please note that almost all of the glass on this Corvette, the "Astro Ventilation" door glass and even the removable rear window are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of June 28, 1972 (K28). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Blue interior of the Corvette is in excellent original condition. The seats are in great shape for original and look just in person as they do in the photos with some standard wear in the typical areas and the common dry foam. Please note that these appear to be the original seats and vinyl skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet is also in great original condition with no major stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The dash is in fantastic condition with no cracks or sun damage. The door panels are in terrific shape with no spits or cracks. The door pulls are solid and intact. The original radio works and most importantly the dash has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. There is a small crack in the parking brake console as one can see in the photos. The driver's lap belt works and retracts properly, even the seat belt buzzer works, but the right lap belt does not. The clam shell is present, but there is no spare tire inside. This Corvette has never been smoked in, there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. It starts right away every time and runs well. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange vibrations, the brakes do not pull, and the car performs well overall. The car runs cool and does not overheat. The transmission shifts properly. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. As with many older original cars you do feel some play out on the highway. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is clean and nicely detailed as one can see in the photos.

The wipers, exterior lights, and indicators all work. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly from both their respective switches on the dash and the override switches. The entire operation from both switches can be viewed in the video below. The a/c works and one can see the a/c compressor engaging properly in the video. The blower motor for the heater and a/c works on all speeds. The left power window and horn do not work. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. The car could use some carb adjustments to smooth out the idle. This Stingray is a pleasure to drive, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1972 Corvette is in wonderful driver condition for being so original. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission VIN stamp, date, and transmission codes. The car obviously has needs as one can see in the photos. However, it still has a ton of potential; it is a very desirable year, numbers matching car, and in an excellent and beautiful color combination.

In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now, and out of those years 1969 and 1972 seem to be the most collectable. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
