vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is tremendously proud to offer this gorgeous numbers matching 1972 Corvette in very nice condition. This car looks good and is a great driver. It is finished in the very rare and desirable color combination of Pewter Silver over Black Vinyl. This is the correct and original color scheme, verified by the trim tag pictured below, which is especially important on this car because Pewter Silver was the most rare color in 1972 with the lowest production of just 1,372 units. Adding to the rarity and desirability is the fact that Pewter Silver was also just a one year color available only in 1972. We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable Corvette at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal work and effort. It gets a ton of attention going down the road. I cannot even count the number of compliments I have received with this Corvette. Please peruse all of the photos and number below to get a true sense of how nice and correct this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z37K2S521460 The first digit, "1," indicates the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "37" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, K, correct for an 200hp car.  The sixth digit, "2," indicates the model year, 1972.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 21,460th Corvette made for 1972.
Body Build Date J16 "J" corresponds to May, and the 16 is the sixteenth day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is May 16, 1972.
Engine Code
(Pictured below)
V0510 "V" means the engine was built in the Flint, MI plant.  The "05" is the fifth month of year and the "10" is the tenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on May 10, 1972.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CKX This means the motor was intended for a 200hp Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping
(Pictured below)
521460 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 521460, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date
(Pictured below)
E 9 2 "E" is May, "9" is the ninth day of the month, and "2" is is the last digit of the calendar year.  So the engine block was cast on May 9, 1972, which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Driver's Window GY The "G" denotes April and the "Y" denotes 1972 meaning the driver's side window was made in April of 1972.
Passenger's Window LY The "L" denotes March and the "Y" denotes 1972 meaning the passenger's side window was made in March of 1972.
Rear Window IN The "I" denotes June and the "N" denotes 1971 meaning the rear window was made in June of 1971.
Left Front Wheel Stamping K 1 2  2  15 AZ "K" means the wheels are original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the first"1" means they were made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the first "2" means they were made for 1972.  The second "2" is the second month of the year and "15" is the fifteenth day of the month.  This means the wheel was made on February 15, 1972.  "AZ" is a code that was used on wheels that were intended for a 1972 Corvette.
Right Front Wheel Stamping K 1 2  2  14 AZ "K" means the wheels are original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the first"1" means they were made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the first "2" means they were made for 1972.  The second "2" is the second month of the year and "14" is the fourteenth day of the month.  This means the wheel was made on February 14, 1972.  "AZ" is a code that was used on wheels that were intended for a 1972 Corvette.
Left Rear Wheel Stamping K 1 2  2  15 AZ "K" means the wheels are original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the first"1" means they were made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the first "2" means they were made for 1972.  The second "2" is the second month of the year and "15" is the fifteenth day of the month.  This means the wheel was made on February 15, 1972.  "AZ" is a code that was used on wheels that were intended for a 1972 Corvette.
Right Rear Wheel Stamping K 1 2  3  17 AZ "K" means the wheels are original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the first"1" means they were made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the "2" means they were made for 1972.  The "3" is the third month of the year and "17" is the seventeenth day of the month.  This means the wheel was made on February 15, 1972.  "AZ" is a code that was used on wheels that were intended for a 1972 Corvette.

condition

Exterior

The Pewter Silver is in decent driver condition. As one can see in the photos the paint has nice gloss, good shine, and smooth finish. The chrome bumpers and other brightwork on the car show well for the most part. Often many Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There may be some small blemishes that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. There are also swirl marks in the paint, which that are more visible in direct sunlight, that we think could be buffed out with a professional detailing. The right window could stand some adjustments. The tires appear to have about 90% tread left. The wheels are in great shape with a nice finish and no curb rash on the beauty rings.

Interior

The black interior of the Corvette looks very nice. The seats look almost brand new with no rips, splits seams, or signs of wear. They are not worn in the typical areas such as where the driver gets in and out. The carpet throughout the car is also in very nice condition with no major stains, rips, or holes. The dash is in wonderful condition with no cracks, fading, or sun damage except for one small blemish on the left speaker grill. The door panels look great with no cracks or splits. The lower left vent ball is loose in the housing and the duct is missing. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma whatsoever.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This car is in seems to be in good mechanical condition. It is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs well. The car also shifts well throughout the power band. The brakes do not pull to one side or the other. The engine sounds like it has a mild cam. We replaced the valve cover gaskets on the car and during the process noticed some internal engine performance upgrades with Crane roller rockers. The previous owner stated that the engine has been rebuilt, but we do not have any receipts. The engine would probably benefit from a tune up. Also, the engine compartment is clean and nicely detailed as one can see in the photos. The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), wipers, and blower, though is does blow a bit weak.  The a/c works and the compressor clutch clicks on, however it does make some noise. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly from both their respective switches on the dash and override switches; their operation can be viewed in the video. Occasionally, when the car is started cold the wiper door and headlights will momentarily pop up after a few seconds of idling. They go right back down on their own after a few seconds and then the system returns to normal control. This Corvette has plenty of power and is very fast. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with and t-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1972 Corvette is in great driver condition. It is a great value and we have priced it to sell. This car turns heads and gets ton of attentions wherever it goes. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing. While this is not an NCRS Top Flight car or something Bloomington Gold quality, it is a correct and rarely optioned driver quality Corvette in a desirable year. Adding to the collectability is the original color combination. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible in the entire Corvette market right now with 1969 and 1972 being the most desirable. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
