vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this numbers matching 1972 Corvette in excellent driver condition and loaded with options such as A/C, power steering, power brake, power windows, and tilt/telescopic steering column. This Corvette looks great, runs awesome, and is a wonderful driver that feels great on the road. The car is finished in the rare and highly desirable color combination of Pewter Silver over Black. This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, pictured below. The color is especially important on this Stingray as Pewter Silver was a one year only color available only in 1972, and was the most rare color with the lowest production so this does add value to the car. This Corvette is "Numbers Matching" meaning that the engine that is in the car now is the same one that was installed in the car new at the factory. The last six digits of the VIN, 526671, are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below.

We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable Corvette at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on "chrome bumper" C3 Corvettes from 1968-1972 is absolutely red hot right now, out of those years we have found the 1969 and 1972 to be most desirable. Please peruse all of the photos, video, the extensive list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of how nice this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1972 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1972 was the last year to feature chrome bumpers and the "egg crate" grill, it is considered to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1972 is considered the last "good" year. It was also the last year to feature a pop out rear window, and the first year that the way horsepower ratings are measured changed from gross to the more accurate net. As in investment, the 1972 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z37K2S526671 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "37" is the body style, sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, K, correct for a 200hp car. The sixth digit, "2," indicates the model year, 1972. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is only the 26,671st Corvette made for 1972.
Body Build Date L19 "L" corresponds to July, and "19" is the nineteenth day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is July 19, 1972.
Engine Code V0622 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "06" is the sixth month of year and the "22" is the twenty-second day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on June 22, 1972.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CDJ This means the motor was intended for a 350ci 200hp Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 526671 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 526671, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has a correct 3790010 casting number a 1972 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date F 20 2 "F" is June, "20" is the twentieth day of the month, and "2" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on June 20, 1972.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 6263751 The intake has the correct 6263751 casting number for a 1972 Corvette.
Intake Manifold Casting Date F 16 2 "F" is June, "16" is the sixteenth day of the month, and "2" is the last digit of the calendar year so this intake was cast on June 16, 1972.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Exhaust Manifold LH 3932461 The left exhaust manifold has a 3932461 casting number, which is correct for a 1972 200hp Corvette.
Exhaust Manifold RH 3932461 The right exhaust manifold has a 3932461 casting number, which is correct for a 1972 200hp Corvette.
Transmission 72-CK The "72" is the model year, 1972. The "C" means the transmission was made for a Chevrolet vehicle, and the "K" means is was intended for a 350ci Corvette, which is correct for this car.
Transmission Date Code 536 The assembly date code for the 1972 model year starts with the first day of the calendar year in 1971 and continues through the calendar year in 1972. This means "536" is the 536th day starting with January 1, 1971, which indicates the transmission is dated June 19, 1972.
Transmission VIN Stamping 526671 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 526671, are stamped on the main case of the transmission and pictured below meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Rear Differential AW W 169 E 1 The "AW" is a code that indicates a 3.08:1 gear ration with positraction. This is actually a 1971 model code, but since this is such an early 1972 it is totally plausible that it could have come on this car from the factory. The "W" is the assembly plant, Warren, MI. The "169" is the 169th day of the year, the "E" indicates the positraction source, Eaton, and the "1" is the shift in which the rear end was made. So this rear differential was made in Warren, MI on June 17, 1972 during the first shift.
Windshield IY The "I" denotes June and the "Y" denotes 1972 meaning the windshield was made in June of 1972. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Drivers Window JY The "J" denotes May and the "Y" denotes 1972 meaning the driver's side window was made in May of 1972. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Passenger Window JY The "J" denotes May and the "Y" denotes 1972 meaning the passenger side window was made in May of 1972. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Rear Window GY The "G" denotes April and the "Y" denotes 1972 meaning the rear window was made in April of 1972. This is correct as it predates the body build date.

condition

Exterior

The Silver exterior is in nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has fantastic gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The wheels are in great shape with a nice finish. Please note that is Corvette has the correct and original 4-clip style beauty rings, not the cheaper foreign made replacements. The tires have about 90% tread let and are correctly sized 225/70R15. The chrome and other bight work looks good overall. There are a few small imperfections around the car that are too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. We have included many photos of the underside of the car and specific photos of the areas most prone to rust. There has been some welding repair to the frame on both sides. This Corvette has no rust issues. The frame is totally solid around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire and we have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield or "birdcage." These are the most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

This Corvette looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL the glass on this Corvette, the "Astro Ventilation" door glass, the removable rear window, and even the windshield are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of August 1971. Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Black interior of the Corvette is in good driver condition. The seats look just in person just as they do in the photos with no rips. The carpet is in good condition condition as well with no stains; there is some wear, but it is minor and mostly covered by the mat as one can see in the photos. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The radio works and gets good reception. The dash is in great shape with no fading or sun damage. The jack and handle are present and stored correctly behind the passenger seat and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment door, and there the spare is still in the clam shell. There are also T-Top bags that come with the car. These Corvette interiors are not known to wear well over time and the nice condition of this interior is a testament to the care and attention this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The engine starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car is a great driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The exterior lights, indicators, wipers, and horn all work. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. The door locks do not work properly. The blower motor for the heater and a/c works on all speeds. The a/c works and blows cold. It was recently serviced by the previous owner. One can see the a/c compressor engaging properly in the video. The vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works and their operation can be viewed in the video. The wiper door also goes up from either one of the override switches under the column. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with T-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1972 Corvette is in wonderful driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is quite correct. The rare and original color combination also adds value to this Corvette. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, and transmission codes. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now and out of those years 1969 and 1972 are the most sought-after. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
