It is very correct and original as one can see from the extensive list of numbers below. This Corvette is priced to sell, always turns heads, and gets a TON of attention going down the road. The market on these chrome bumper Corvettes from 1968 to 1972 is red hot right now. This example is in its original color combination of Classic White (972) over Black Vinyl (400) as indicated by the trim tag pictured below. This Corvette is owned free and clear with no liens by Seven Hills Motorcars. Please peruse all of the photos, numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice, clean, and correct this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z37K2S515134 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "37" is the body style, sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, K, correct for a 200hp car. The sixth digit, "2," indicates the model year, 1972. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 15,134th Corvette made for 1972..
Body Build Date H01 "H" corresponds to March, and the "01" is the first day of the month meaning this Corvette body build date is March 1, 1972.
Engine Code V0209 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "02" is the second month of year and the "09" is the ninth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on February 9, 1972.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CKX This means the motor was intended for a 350ci Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 515134 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 515134, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date B 4 2 "B" is February, "4" is the fourth day of the month, and "2" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on February 4, 1972.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 6263751 The intake manifold has the correct 6263751 casting number.
Intake Manifold Casting Date B 7 2 "B" is February, "7" is the seventh day of the month, and "2" is last digit of the calendar year so the intake was cast on February 7, 1972.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Exhaust Manifold LH 3932461 The left exhaust manifold has a 3932461 casting number.
Exhaust Manifold RH 3932461 The right exhaust manifold has a 3932461 casting number.

Transmission Date Code 403 The assemble date code for the 1972 model year starts with the first day of the calendar year in 1971 and continues through the calendar year in 1972.  This means "403" is the 403rd day starting with January 1, 1971, which indicates the transmission was assembled on February 7, 1972.
Windshield NY "N" is January and "Y" is 1972 so this window is original, made in January of 1972.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Classic White exterior is in great driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has nice gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The chrome bumpers and other bight work on the car shows well overall with no rust or pitting. Both doors open and shut nicely. Often many corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not. There are no major imperfections that have been excluded from the photos. There are some small touch ups and blemishes in the paint that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. The frame looks very clean with no rust as one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car. The rear body mounts are in great shape with no rust, there is a little corrosion around the birdcage, but it is still solid overall, and there is no rust around the radiator support, which are all the common areas for rust on the C3 Corvette. The wheels are in nice condition with a brilliant finish. The tire are sized 225/60R15 and have about 80% tread left.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL the glass on this Corvette, the "Astro Ventilation" door glass, the removable rear window, and even the windshield are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of March 1, 1972 (H01). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The black interior of the Corvette looks absolutely superb. The seats look virtually brand new with no split seems, rips, or signs of wear. The carpet has no stains or excessive wear. This included the rear carpet which is often neglected. The dash and console are in nice condition with no fading or sun damage. The door panels are in good condition with no cracks on the arm pads, which is a very common problem on this era Corvette. The jack and jack handle are present and stowed correctly behind the passenger seat, which is pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The radio works and most importantly the original dash was not cut for the installation. This car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma of cigarettes whatsoever. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life. Even very detailed items that are almost always broken or shabby are not on this car; details such as the finger pulls for the rear storage compartment and the fit of the center gauge cluster with the shifter console and down to the parking brake console. Please also note that both lap belts and both shoulder belts operate and retract correctly and smoothly, which can be viewed in the video below. This is another detail many buyers do not think to inspect, but is a very common problem on early C3's.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This car seems to be in good mechanical condition . The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car drives great; it feels good the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts well, there are no strange vibrations, and the car performs quite nice overall. The transmission shifts smoothly. The car appears to have all new calipers and brake pads so the brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is pretty fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The distributor has been upgraded to a more modern HEI unit that Chevrolet used in later years. The previous owner took the extra effort to install an HEI distributor that is made specifically for a a Corvette with the correct drive for the tachometer. These early C3 Corvettes have a common problem with sagging in the rear spring, which makes of the back of the car sit too low. This Corvette sits with the right stance and handles great as the previous owner installed a new fiberglass monoleaf rear spring. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, temp gauge, battery gauge, fuel gauge, and wipers. The blower for the heater and a/c works on all speeds. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly from both their respective switches on the dash and override switches; their complete operation from both switches can be viewed in the video below. Occasionally the wipers will park in the wrong position so you just have the turn the wiper switch on again. There is an occasional buzzing sound from behind the gauges. The a/c, dash lights, and obviously the clock do not work. There is a belt on the a/c compressor and the a/c system is totally complete. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with top down on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1972 Corvette is in great driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block and transmission codes. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now and out of those years 1969 and 1972 are the most desirable. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector.

The originality, matching numbers, and nice color combination make this car especially valuable and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. Based on the condition of the car it is very possible that the car has original miles, but we cannot verify that fact and are therefore selling the car with nonactual mileage. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please email or call with any questions.
