vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this completely numbers matching 1972 Corvette in excellent original condition. The car looks greats, runs well, and is a very nice driver. It is amazingly correct and original as one can see from the extensive list of numbers below. This Corvette is priced to sell, always turns heads, and gets a TON of attention going down the road. The market on these chrome bumper Corvettes is red hot right now. This Corvette is in it's original color scheme of Classic White (972) over all original Dark Blue Vinyl (412) as indicated by the trim tag pictured below. Dark Blue is a much more desirable and striking color to go with white compared to the normal black or saddle you usually see. We purchased the car from a friend of the dealership located in northern Kentucky. He is a hardcore Corvette enthusiast with a few mid-year Corvettes in his collection. We have purchased a number of Corvettes from him over the years and he is a very conscientious owner and caretaker of his vehicles. This Corvette is owned free and clear with no liens by Seven Hills Motorcars, the title is NOT branded as salvage or rebuilt; there is a photo of the title below. Please peruse all of the photos, numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice, clean, and correct this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z37K2S523680 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "37" is the body style, sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, K, correct for a 200hp car. The sixth digit, "2," indicates the model year, 1972. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 23,680th Corvette made for 1972.
Body Build Date K13 "K" corresponds to June, and the 13 is the thirteenth day of the month meaning this Corvette body build date is June 13, 1972.
Engine Code V0607 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "06" is the sixth month of year and the "07" is the seventh day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on June 7, 1972.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.

Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date E 26 2 "E" is May, "26" is the twenty-sixth day of the month, and "2" is the last digit of the calendar so the engine block was cast on May 26, 1972.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 6263751 The intake manifold has the correct 6263751 casting number.
Intake Manifold Casting Date C 23 2 "C" is March, "23" is the twenty-third day of the month, and "2" is the last digit of the calendar year so the intake was cast on March 23, 1972.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.

Driver's Window JY The "J" is May and the "Y" is 1972 so this window is original, made in May of 1972.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger Window CN The "C" is November and the "N" is 1971 so this window is original, made in November of 1971.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear Window LY The "L" is March and the "Y" is 1972 so this window is original, made in March of 1972.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Classic White exterior is in good driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has nice gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The all original chrome and other bight work on the car shows well overall. Both doors open and shut nicely. There are no major imperfections that have been excluded from the photos. There are some faint blemishes in the paint that were too small to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from five or ten feet away. The wheels are in nice condition with a great finish and the tires appear to have about 60% tread left, but do show some age and some cracks. This Corvette has NO RUST ISSUES and we have included some photos of the areas on the car most prone to rust. The frame looks very clean with no rust as one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, the birdcage looks solids with no signs of corrosion, and there is no rust around the radiator support, which are all the common areas for rust on the C3 Corvette.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that the "Astro Ventilation" door glass, and rear glass, are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of June 13, 1972 (K13). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Dark Blue interior of the Corvette is in great original condition. The seats look just in person just as they do in the photos with some expected wear in the typical areas, but overall they are in spectacular shape for being their age. Please note that these seats are the factory originals, not some cheap aftermarket replacements or covers. The carpet is also original and in very nice condition with no tears, holes, or major stains. This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected. The door panels are in excellent condition with no cracks on the arm pad, which is very common on this era Corvette. They look like they may have been replaced at some point and are a shade darker, but as one can see in the photos this is not very noticeable. The dash is in great shape with no sun faded or cracking at all. The car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. The original jack and jack handle are still with the car stowed in the compartment behind seats and pictured below with the original decals on the compartment lips. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this original interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life. Even very detailed items such as the fit of the gauge cluster down to the center console is very nice on this car.

Mechanical

This car seems to be in good mechanical condition . The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car drives great; it feels good the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts well, there are no strange vibrations, and the car performs quite nice overall. The transmission shifts smoothly. It appears as if the car was recently serviced with new front calipers and brake pads so the brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, the blower motor on all speeds, speedometer, odometer, tachometer, temp gauge, battery gauge, fuel gauge, and wipers. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly from both their respective switches on the dash and override switches; their operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. Occasionally, the wiper door with raise when the car is first started or under hard acceleration, which is a common occurrence on this era Corvette, but it always goes right back down and still works correct from the switches. The car could probably use some general maintenance and adjustments to the carburetor as it is quite cold blooded like many other older carbureted cars. As with most driver quality Corvettes like this one the a/c does not work, but there is a belt on the a/c compressor and the system is complete and unmodified. Obviously, the clock does not work. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with top down on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1972 Corvette is in great driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, and transmission codes. The original owners manual is included with the car. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now and out of those years 1969 and 1972 are the most desirable. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector.

The originality, matching numbers, and beautiful color combination make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
