vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this beautiful numbers matching 1973 Corvette Stingray Convertible in spectacular original condition and with ONLY 22,280 original miles and a 4-Speed manual transmission. This Corvette looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. It is exceptionally rare to find a Corvette from this era with original mileage this low. This Stingray would be an excellent candidate for a National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) Bowtie Preservation award or a Bloomington Survivor Certification, which are awarded to unrestored and unmolested Corvettes for originality and conservation. It is by far one of the best and nicest 1973 Corvettes on the market and truly an investment grade classic car.

The Blue-Green over Dark Saddle Vinyl is one of the most striking and desirable color combinations available. It is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, which is pictured below. Blue-Green is a very unique and rare color that really stand out. This Stingray gets complements whenever it is out. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise and 1973 is a special year. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

This Corvette is completely "Numbers Matching" and literally every part we checked on the car is correct with the proper part numbers and appropriate date codes. We have run the numbers on hundreds of Corvettes over the years and there are very few that are so correct and original. Even very detailed parts like the starter, alternator, the wheels, and even the date codes on all the glass are correct. The last six digits of the VIN are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below, and the engine is original to the car. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below. All of the paint and trim codes are also correct for this Stingray.

According to the previous owner this Corvette has had only two owners since then. The first owner had the car from 1972 to 1980. We purchased the car from the second owner who owner it for 38 years. We have a copy of the original title from 1980 to verify that portion of the ownership history. Also included with the car is some original documentation including the original owners manual, warranty booklet showing the original owner's name, 1973 Chevrolet Consumer Information booklet, Chevrolet maintenance schedule, Emission Control Systems, Firestone Tire booklet, and wheel trim instruction sheet.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1973 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1973 was the last year to feature a chrome bumper and is considered by some to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Model years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1973 is considered the last "good" year by many enthusiasts. The 1973 model year is also considered a special and different year for Corvette enthusiasts as it was the only model to have chrome in the back and a rubber bumper in the front. It is representative of the transition Corvette was making at the time. As in investment, the 1973 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z67J3S400324 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "67" is the body style, convertible. The fifth digit is the engine, J, correct for an L48 Corvette. The sixth digit, "3," indicates the model year, 1973. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 324th Corvette made for 1973.
Body Build Date A21 "A" corresponds to August, and "21" is the twenty-first day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is August 21, 1972.
Engine Code V0807 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "08" is the eighth month of year and the "07" is the seventh day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on August 7, 1972.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.

Engine Block Casting Date H 2 2 "H" is August, the first "2" is the second day of the month, and the second "2" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on August 2, 1972, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 3997771 The intake manifold has the correct 3997771 casting number.
Intake Manifold Casting Date G 18 2 "G" is July, "18" is the eighteenth day of the month, and the "2" is the last digit of the calendar year so the intake manifold was cast on July 18, 1972, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Distributor 1112098 The distributor is original and correct for a 1973 Corvette with a 1112098 stamping on the band.
Distributor Date Code 2F8 The "2" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "F" denotes June, and "8" is the eighth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on June 8, 1972. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Alternator 1100950 The alternator is original and correct for a 1973 Corvette with a small block engine and no a/c with a 1100950 stamping.
Alternator Date Code 2E30 The "2" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "E" denotes May, and "30" is the thirtieth day of the month meaning the alternator was made on May 30, 1972.
Starter 1108430 The starter is original and correct for a 1973 Corvette with an automatic transmission with a 1108430 stamping.
Starter Date Code 2F30 The "2" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "F" denotes June, and "30" is the thirtieth day of the month meaning the starter was made on June 30, 1972.

The third digit, "4," indicates it was made in the 1970 to 1975 production run. The fourth digit, "3," is the model year, 1973. The fifth digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL Quadrajet carb. The seventh digit, "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "3," means it was intended for use in a manual transmission car such as this Corvette.

Transmission Date Code P3M04A The "P" indicates that this is a Muncie transmission. The "3" indicates the model year, 1973. The "M" is the eighth month of the year and the "04" is the fourth day of the month. The "A" is a suffix letter that indicates the gear ratio, wide Ratio. So this is a Muncie 4-Speed transmission that was assembled on August 4, 1972.
Transmission VIN Stamping 400324 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 400324, are stamped on the main case meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Rear Differential LR W 206 E1 The "LR" indicates a 3.36:1 axle ratio with positraction. The "W" is the plant code where the rear end was made. The "206" is the 206th day of the year. The "E" is the source of the positraction, Eaton, and the "1" is the shift so the rear differential was made on July 24, 1972 in Warren, MI during the second shift.
Windshield TY "T" is August and "Y" is 1972 so the windshield is original, made in August of 1972. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver's Window JY "J" is May and "Y" is 1972 so this window is original, made in May of 1972. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger Window LN "L" is March and "N" is 1971 so this window is original, made in March of 1971. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear Window 726 This code does not follow the format in the books, but the convertible top has all of the other correct stamping such as "VINYLITE," "AS-6", and "DO NOT RUB DRY WASH WITH WATER SOAKED CLOTH." We believe this code to indicate "72" for the year and the "6" is the sixth month of the year meaning the top is from June of 1972 which would be an appropriate date for the build date of the car.
Left Front Wheel Stamping  K-1-2 8 1 AZ "K" means the wheels are original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the "1" means they were made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the "2" is the year, 1972. The "8" is the eighth month of the year and the "1" is the first day of the month. This means the wheel was made on August 1, 1972. "AZ" is a code that was used on wheels intended for a 1973 Corvette.
Right Front Wheel Stamping K-1-2 9 1 AZ "K" means the wheels are original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the "1" means they were made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the "2" is the year, 1972. The "8" is the eighth month of the year and the "1 is the first day of the month. This means the wheel was made on August 1, 1972. "AZ" is a code that was used on wheels intended for a 1973 Corvette.
Left Rear Wheel Stamping K-1-2 8 7 AZ "K" means the wheels are original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the "1" means they were made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the "2" is the year, 1972. The "8" is the eighth month of the year and the "7" is the seventh day of the month. This means the wheel was made on August 7, 1972. "AZ" is a code that was used on wheels intended for a 1973 Corvette.
Right Rear Wheel Stamping K-1-2 8 7 AZ "K" means the wheels are original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the "1" means they were made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the "2" is the year, 1972. The "8" is the eighth month of the year and the "7" is the seventh day of the month. This means the wheel was made on August 7, 1972. condition

Exterior

The Blue-Green exterior is in excellent condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, smooth finish, and deep shine. Both doors open and shut nicely. The bonding strips are still in place on all four fenders and still visible. The convertible top is in amazing original condition. It is very rare to see any original convertible top from a C3 and this is just about the nicest original top we have come across. The top operates well and is not stained. The rear window also looks great and is not scratched up or yellowed. The wheels, which are all original, are in excellent condition with a brilliant finish. Please note that this Corvette still has the correct and original 4-clip style beauty rings, not the cheap foreign made aftermarket replacements. The BF Goodrich Radial TA tires are brand new and are correctly sized 225/70R15. As one would except from a paintjob with this many years on it there are a few spots and blemishes in the paint and body around car that were too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. Amazingly, the front bumper on this Corvette is original and one can see in the photos that there are some expected cracks. I would never replace, repair, or change the front bumper. 1973 was the first year for the urethane bumpers on Corvettes and the technology at the time was not perfect; the urethane they used simply does not hold up after 45 years. For the sake of originally, preservation, value, and possible future judging the bumper should stay original. The car is much more desirable and correct with the original bumper. Also, there is chip in the windshield. We could have the windshield replaced for the future owner for $350, but once again I would recommend that the buyer keep this Corvette all original. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL the glass on this Corvette, the "Astro Ventilation" door glass, the windshield, and even the rear window in the convertible top are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of February 1, 1973 (G01). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Dark Saddle Vinyl interior in this Corvette is in outstanding condition and is totally original. The seats are in excellent shape and look just in person as the do in the photos with no excessive wear. Please note that these are the original seats and skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. They do have the typical dry foam. The carpet is also in fantastic original condition with no holes or rips. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The carpet is also original. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the gauge lenses are crystal clear. The door panels are in excellent shape. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look great with no cracks or sun fading. The original AM/FM radio works and actually gets decent reception. Most importantly the dash has never cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. The jack is still with the car and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The spare is also still with the car. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The Stingray starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The shifter is tight, the transmission does not pop out of gear, and the clutch feels good. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct with the original upper and lower ignition shielding.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, wipers, indicators, and horn. The blower works on all speeds. Even very detailed items like the seat belt warning buzzer work as one can see in the video. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no effort or binding in the mechanism. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the 4-Speed transmission and the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1973 Corvette Convertilbe is in exceptional original condition. Any classic car can be restored, but a vehicle is only original once and originally cannot be reproduced. Low mileage examples in this year range are very rare and draw a huge premium over a standard Corvette. Numbers matching is very important in Corvette pricing and as one can see this car is very correct. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. The value of third generation Corvettes has increased dramatically in recent times, this is especially true for the 1973 model year. They are solid and wise investments for a collector. 1973 was a very special and one year only body style for Corvette that is always recognizable with the newer front end treatment and the classic chrome bumpers on the back. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission VIN stamp, transmission date, and transmission codes. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
