vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this beautiful numbers matching 1973 L82 Corvette Convertible in excellent condition. This Stingray looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with nice lines and no rust issues. It is finished in the iconic and highly desirable color combination of Mille Miglia Red (976) over Black Leather (404) factory "custom" interior. This is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, which is pictured below.

This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic original high horsepower L82 Corvette convertible that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise and 1973 is a special one year only body style and the last year to feature a chrome bumper. Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1973 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1973 was the last year to feature a chrome bumper and is considered by some to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Model years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1973 is considered the last "good" year by many enthusiasts. The 1973 model year is also considered a special and different year for Corvette enthusiasts as it was the only model to have chrome in the back and a rubber bumper in the front. It is representative of the transition Corvette was making at the time. As in investment, the 1973 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z67T3S420124 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "67" is the body style, convertible. The fifth digit is the engine, T, correct for an L82 Corvette. The sixth digit, "3," indicates the model year, 1973. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 20,124th Corvette made for 1973.
Body Build Date I10 "I" corresponds to April, and "10" is the tenth day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is April 10, 1973.
Engine Code V0326 "V" means the engine was built in the Flint, MI plant.  The "03" is the third month of year and the "26" is the twenty-sixth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on March 26, 1973.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CLD This means the motor was intended for an L82 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 420124 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 420124, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3790010 The engine block has a 3970010 casting number, which is correct for an L82 1973 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date C 3 3 "C" is March, the first "3" is the third day of the month, and the second "3" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on March 3, 1973, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 3997771 The intake manifold has the correct 3997771 casting number for a 1973 L82 Corvette. This intake was only use on Corvettes in 1973.
Intake Manifold Casting Date B 24 3 "B" is February, "24" is the twenty-fourth day of the month, and the "3" is the last digit of the calendar year so the intake manifold was cast on February 24, 1973, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Transmission 73-CZ The "73" is the model year, 1973. The "C" means the transmission was made for a Chevrolet vehicle, and the "Z" means is was intended for an L82 Corvette, which is correct for this car.
Transmission Date Code 439 The assembly date code for the 1973 model year starts with the first day of the calendar year in 1972 and continues through the calendar year in 1973. This means "439" is the 439th day starting with January 1, 1972, which indicates the transmission is dated March 15, 1973.
Transmission VIN Stamping 420124 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 420124, are stamped on the main case meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Exhaust Manifold Left 3932461 The left exhaust manifold has a correct 3932461 casting number.
Exhaust Manifold Right 3932461 The right exhaust manifold has a correct 3932461 casting number.
Windshield LU The "L" is March and the "U" is 1973 so this window is original, made in March of 1973.
Driver's Window XU The "X" is February and the "U" is 1973 so this window is original, made in February of 1973.
Passenger Window LU The "L" is March and the "U" is 1973 so this window is original, made in March of 1973.

condition

Exterior

The Mille Miglia Red exterior is in nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, smooth finish, and deep shine. Both doors open and shut nicely. The wheels are in great condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash on the beauty rings. The Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires are correctly sized 225/70R15 and have about 90% tread left. The convertible top is in nice condition with no rips. There is one small spot in the top that has been repaired with a specific photo of the area below. The rear window is not yellowed. There are a few spots and blemishes in the paint around car with specific photos below and some that were too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, the bottom of the car is exceptionally clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of April 10, 1973 (I10). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Black interior in this Corvette is in terrific condition. The seats are in excellent shape with no split seams or excessive wear. The driver's seat is not overly worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out and the seat bottom of the passenger seat shows a bit of wear. The carpet is also in good condition with no stains. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. There are some spots of wear in the driver's foot-well, but as one can see in the photos it is not very noticeable. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are clear. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The door panels are in nice condition. The door pulls are solid and intact. The jack and jack handle are still with the car and stored correctly in the compartment behind the passenger seat, pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The spare is also still with the car. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shifts well. This Corvette has plenty of power and feels quick with the L82 engine. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, wipers, indicators, and all of the gauges with the obvious exception of the clock. The blower for the heater works on all speeds. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no effort or binding in the mechanism. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the power from the L82 and the top down on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1973 L82 Corvette Stingray is in great driver condition. High horsepower L82 models are very rare and draw a premium over a standard Corvette. Numbers matching is very important in Corvette pricing, especially with rare and more desirable models like this L82, and as one can see this car is very correct. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. The value of third generation Corvettes has increased dramatically in recent times, this is especially true for the 1973 model year. They are solid and wise investments for a collector. 1973 was a very special and one year only body style for Corvette that is always recognizable with the newer front end treatment and the classic chrome bumpers on the back. While this is not an NCRS Top Flight or Bloomington Gold car, it is a very nice driver quality L82 Corvette and a great car for the money. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission VIN stamp, transmission date, and transmission codes. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
