vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this absolutely beautiful and completely numbers matching 1973 L82 Corvette Convertible in excellent condition with a Muncie M21 4-Speed Close Ratio transmission. This Stingray looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with nice lines and no rust issues. It is finished in the stunning and highly desirable color combination of Bright Yellow (952) over Black Vinyl (400). This is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, which is pictured below. I have personally put over 90 miles on Stingray, including a recent trip to a Cars and Coffee event outside of Dayton, OH, and during the entire time the car was flawlessly reliable with no issues and a true pleasure to drive.

This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic and highly sought-after original high horsepower L82 Corvette 4-Speed convertible that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise and 1973 is a special one year only body style and the last year to feature a chrome bumper. Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice, clean, and correct this Corvette really is.

We purchased this Corvette from a gentleman who had previously purchased this Corvette in Arizona. Being a western car, the underside is exceptionally clean with no rust at all. This Stingray is also completely numbers matching with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the engine block and the main case of the transmission indicating the engine and transmission are the original units installed in the car new at the factory. The paint and trim codes are also correct for the car. Even detailed items like the carburetor, intake, distributor, rear end, and even the rims are all correct and original with the right part numbers and appropriate dates.

Also included with the car is the original owners manual, vehicle warranty booklet showing the original owner's name, 1973 Corvette consumer information booklet, trim ring instruction card, 1973 Chevrolet emissions booklet, 1973 Chevrolet maintenance booklet, and even the original envelope the paperwork would have come in from the dealer new.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1973 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1973 was the last year to feature a chrome bumper and is considered by some to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Model years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1973 is considered the last "good" year by many enthusiasts. The 1973 model year is also considered a special and different year for Corvette enthusiasts as it was the only model to have chrome in the back and a rubber bumper in the front. It is representative of the transition Corvette was making at the time. As in investment, the 1973 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z67T3S419535 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "67" is the body style, convertible. The fifth digit is the engine, T, correct for an L82 Corvette. The sixth digit, "3," indicates the model year, 1973. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 19,535th Corvette made for 1973.
Body Build Date I03 "I" corresponds to April, and "03" is the third day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is April 3, 1973.
Engine Code V0316 "V" means the engine was built in the Flint, MI plant.  The "03" is the third month of year and the "16" is the sixteenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on March 16, 1973.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CLR This means the motor was intended for an L82 Corvette with a manual transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 419535 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 419535, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3790010 The engine block has a 3970010 casting number, which is correct for an L82 1973 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date C 9 3 "C" is March, the "9" is the ninth day of the month, and the "3" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on March 9, 1973, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Distributor 1112150 The distributor is original and correct for an 1973 L82 Corvette with a 1112150 stamping on the band.
Distributor Date Code 3C14 The "3" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "C" denotes March, and "14" is the fourteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on March 14, 1973. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Carburetor 7043213 The carburetor is correct and original with a 7043213 stamping. The "70" is a code used on all Rochester carbs from 1965-1975. The third digit, "4," indicates it was made in the 1970 to 1975 production run. The fourth digit, "3," is the model year, 1973. The fifth digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL Quadrajet carb. The sixth digit, "1," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "3," means it was intended for use with a manual transmission , which is correct for this car.
Carburetor Date Code 0883 The first three digits, "088," indicated the 88th day of the year. The last digit, "3," is the year, 1973. So this Rochester Quadrajet carburetor was made on March 29, 1973.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 3997771 The intake manifold has the correct 3997771 casting number for a 1973 L82 Corvette. This intake was only use on Corvettes in 1973.
Intake Manifold Casting Date C 13 3 "C" is March, "13" is the thirteenth day of the month, and the "3" is the last digit of the calendar year so the intake manifold was cast on March 13, 1973, which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Transmission Main Case Casting Number 3925661 The main case of the transmission has the correct 3925661 casting number.
Transmission Tail Housing Casting Number 3978764 The tail housing of the transmission has the correct 3978764 casting number.
Transmission Side Cover Casting Number 335308 The side cover has a 335308 casting number. This number does not appear in the book, but has been found on some C3 Corvettes.
Transmission Date Code P3C08B The "P" indicates that this is a Muncie transmission. The "3" indicates the model year, 1973. The "C" is the third month of the year and the "08" is the eighth day of the month. The "B" is a suffix letter that indicates the gear ratio, 2.20:1 Close Ratio. So this is a Muncie Close Ratio 4-Speed transmission that was assembled on March 8, 1973.
Transmission VIN Stamping 419535 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 419535, are stamped on the main case meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Bell Housing 3899621 The bell housing has the correct 3899621 casting number.
Rear Differential AB W 075 E 2 The "AB" indicates a 3.70:1 axle ratio with positraction. The "W" is the plant code where the rear end was made. The "075" is the 75th day of the year. The "E" is the source of the positraction, Eaton, and the "2" is the shift so the rear differential was made on March 16, 1973 in Warren, MI during the first shift.
Driver's Window XU The "X" is February and the "U" is 1973 so this window is original, made in February of 1973.
Passenger Window LU The "L" is March and the "U" is 1973 so this window is original, made in March of 1973.
Left Front Wheel K 1 3 3   1 AZ "K" means the wheel is an original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the "1" means it was made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the first "3" is the year it was made, 1973. The second "3" is the third month of the year and "1" is the first day of the month. This means the wheel was made on March 1, 1973. "AZ" is a code that was used on wheels that were intended for a 1973 Corvette.
Right Front Wheel K 1 3 3   1 AZ "K" means the wheel is an original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the "1" means it was made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the first "3" is the year it was made, 1973. The second "3" is the third month of the year and "1" is the first day of the month. This means the wheel was made on March 1, 1973. "AZ" is a code that was used on wheels that were intended for a 1973 Corvette.
Left Rear WHeel K 1 3 3   1 AZ "K" means the wheel is an original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, the "1" means it was made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the first "3" is the year it was made, 1973. condition

Exterior

The Bright Yellow exterior is in fantastic driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, smooth finish, and deep shine. Both doors open and shut nicely. The wheels are in great condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash on the beauty rings. The BF Goodrich Radial TA tires have about 90% tread left. The convertible top is in virtually new condition with no rips, holes, or signs of wear. The rear window is perfectly clear and not yellowed or foggy at all. There are a few touch-ups and blemishes in the paint around car with specific photos below and some that were too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, the bottom of the car is exceptionally clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

Window Date Codes

Please note that almost all of the glass on this Corvette is date coded and original as each piece of "Astro Ventilation" door glass predates the car's body build date of April 3, 1973 (I03). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Black interior in this Corvette is in fantastic condition. The seats virtually brand new with no split seams or excessive wear. The driver's seat is not worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. The carpet is also in excellent condition with no stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are clear. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The door panels are in nice condition. The door pulls are solid and intact. The jack and jack handle are still with the car and stored correctly in the compartment behind the passenger seat, pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The spare is also still with the car. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in great mechanical condition. As stated above I have put about 90 miles on this Stingray with no issues at all. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The shifter is tight, the transmission does not pop out of gear, and the clutch feels good. This Corvette has plenty of power and feels quick with the L82 engine. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct with the original air cleaner, upper ignition shielding, and finned aluminum valve covers that were exclusive to the L82 models.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, wipers, indicators, all of the gauges, and even the clock runs and keeps time. The blower for the heater works on all speeds. The manual air vents also work properly, which is a very common problem on this era Corvette. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no effort or binding in the mechanism. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the power from the L82, the M21 Close Ration 4-Speed, and the top down on a beautiful day.

Even very detailed items like the "Seat Belt" light, the "Door Ajar" light, and all the buzzers work as one can see and hear in the video. These buzzers almost never work, but the seat bely buzzer activates when the ignition is turned on and the buzzer turns off properly when the driver's seat belt is extended or when the parking brake is applied. The key buzzer also works as one can hear in the video.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1973 L82 Corvette Stingray is in great driver condition. High horsepower L82 models are very rare and draw a premium over a standard Corvette. Numbers matching is very important in Corvette pricing, especially with rare and more desirable models like this L82, and as one can see this car is very correct. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. The value of third generation Corvettes has increased dramatically in recent times, this is especially true for the 1973 model year. They are solid and wise investments for a collector. 1973 was a very special and one year only body style for Corvette that is always recognizable with the newer front end treatment and the classic chrome bumpers on the back. While we and also the previous owner think that this Stingray has actual mileage, the title was marked as nonactual when it was transferred from Arizona to Ohio as Arizona does not record mileage on vehicles of this age. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission VIN stamp, transmission date, and transmission codes. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
