vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is exceptionally proud to offer this completely numbers matching 1973 Corvette convertible in outstanding condition.  The car looks greats, runs well, and is an excellent driver that is ready to be enjoyed.  This Corvette is priced to sell, always turns heads, and gets a TON of attention going down the road.  The car is in it's original color scheme, which is very rare and definitely one of the most striking combination available for 1973, Orange (980) over Medium Saddle (415) as indicated by the trim pad pictured below.  This Corvette is owned free and clear with no liens by Seven Hills Motorcars and photo of the clear Ohio title showing Seven Hills Motorcars as the owner is pictured below.

We purchased this Corvette from a gentleman outside Columbus, OH.  He was a true Corvette enthusiast with a 1975 Convertible and 1963 Spilt Window Coupe in his garage.  He recently retired as an auto body shop and painting instructor at a local trade school.  After he preformed a complete restoration on his 1963 split window, he recently finished a new paint job on this 1973 convertible.  As one can see in the photos, he did an excellent job and the car looks awesome.  The mechanical instructors at his school also performed a tune up and service to the car just after the paintjob.

The 1973 Corvette was truly the end of an era.  1973 was the last year to feature a chrome bumper, it is considered to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes.  Years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1973 is considered the last "good" year by many enthusiasts.  As in investment, the 1973 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z67J3S432522 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "67" is the body style, 2-door convertible.  The fifth digit is the engine, J, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "3," indicates the model year, 1973.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 32,522nd Corvette made for 1973.
Body Build Date L10 "L" Corresponds to July, and the 10 is the 10th day of the month meaning this Corvette body build date is July 10, 1973.
Engine Code V0630 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "06" is the sixth month of year and the "30" is the thirtieth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on June 30, 1973.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CLA This means the motor was intended for an L48 with an automatic, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 432522 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 401829, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date F 28 3 "F" is June, "28" is the twenty-eighth day of the month, and "3" is 1973 so the engine block was cast on June 28, 1973.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Distributor 1112098 The distributor is original and correct with 1112098 stamped on band.
Distributor Date Code 3E24 The "3" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "E" denotes May, and "24" is the twenty-fourth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on May 24, 1973.  This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 340261 The intake manifold has a 340261 casting number.  This is actually a 1974 Corvette casting number, but since this is such a very late 1973 is is not uncommon for it to have to some early 1974 components.
Intake Manifold Casting Date F 23 3 "F" is June, "23" is the twenty-third day of the month, and "3" is 1973 so the engine block was cast on June 23, 1973.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Transmission 73 CK The "C" means the transmission was made for a Chevrolet vehicle, and the "K" means is was intended for an L48 engine, which is correct for this car.
Transmission Date Code 509 The assemble date code for the 1973 model year starts with the first day of the calendar year in 1972 and continues through the calendar year in 1973.  This means "509" is the 509th day starting with January 1, 1972, which indicates the transmission was assembled in May of 1973.
Delco Starter 1108430 The starter has the correct stamping for a 1973 Corvette with an automatic transmission.
Starter Date Code 3F20 The "3" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "F" denotes June, and "20" is the twentieth day of the month meaning the starter was made on June 20, 1973.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Windshield IU "I" is June and "U" is 1973 so this window is original, made in June of 1973.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver's Window IU "I" is June and "U" is 1973 so this window is original, made in June of 1973.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window JU "J" is May and "U" is 1973 so this window is original, made in May of 1973.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Orange exterior is in very nice driver condition.  As one can see in the photos, the finish has dazzling gloss and smooth glass-like finish.  Often many corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not.  The underside of the front end is in great condition as evidenced by the photos.  The convertible top looks virtually brand new and the rear window is perfectly clear.  Both rear bumpers are in excellent driver condition with a nice shine and no notable pitting.  There are no major imperfections that have been excluded from the photos.  There are some faint blemishes in the paint that were much too small to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from five or ten feet away.  The wheels are in nice condition with a great finish and absolutely no curb rash on the beauty rings

Window Date Codes

Please note that all of glass on this car is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of July 10, 1973 (L10). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Medium Saddle interior of the Corvette is also in terrific condition.  The seats look just in person just as they do in the photos with no excessive wear.  We have included photos of the areas most prone to deterioration.  The carpet is in very nice condition with no tears, holes, or major stains.  This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected.  The door panels are in good condition and are not cracked in the typical area where the driver rests his elbow.  As with many Corvette convertible from this era, the fit of the windows to the top is not perfect.  The seatbelts do operate, but they can be finicky to retract.  The dash does have a hairline crack and some common deterioration on the left speaker grill.  The car still retains its original radio and original uncut dash, but unfortunately the radio is not currently working.  The car also still retains the center armrest pad, these are often missing from the car after this many years.  The car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma what so ever.  Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received.

Mechanical

This car seems to be in very good mechanical condition and we are not aware of any work needed.  The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well.  The car drives terrifically; it is tight on the road and at highway speeds.  There are no strange noises or vibrations.  The transmission shifts smoothly.  The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other.  This Corvette has plenty of power and is pretty fast.  Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos.  The horn works as do all the exterior lights, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), wipers, and blower for the heater on all speeds.  The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no binding.  Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with top down on a beautiful day.

Overall
Condition

Overall this 1973 Corvette convertible is in marvelous condition.  Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and the convertible body style always draws a large premium.  The originality, the beautiful and desirable color combo, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and nearly impossible to duplicate.  Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future.  The 1973 is a special year for Corvettes and always stands out of the one and only year Corvette featured a chrome bumper in the rear with a "rubber bumper" front.  This convertible is the right choice as an automotive investment in the short and long term.  One could enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than your purchase price.
