vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this beautiful numbers matching 1973 Corvette Stingray Coupe in spectacular original condition and with ONLY 11,305 original miles. This Corvette looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. It is exceptionally rare to find a Corvette from this era with original mileage this low. This Stingray would be an excellent candidate for a National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) Bowtie Preservation award or a Bloomington Survivor Certification, which are awarded to unrestored and unmolested Corvettes for originality and conservation. It is by far one of the best and nicest 1973 Corvettes on the market and truly an investment grade classic car.

The Elkhart Green over Saddle Vinyl is one of the most striking and desirable color combinations available and looks great on the car. It is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, which is pictured below. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise and 1973 is a special year. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

This Corvette is completely "Numbers Matching" and literally every part we checked on the car is correct with the proper part numbers and appropriate date codes. We have run the numbers on hundreds of Corvettes over the years and there are very few that are so correct and original. Even very detailed parts like the starter, alternator, the wheels, and even the date codes on all the glass are correct. The last six digits of the VIN are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below, and the engine is original to the car. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below. All of the paint and trim codes are also correct for this Stingray.

In February of 1973 this Stingray was sold brand new at Joe Petsche Chevrolet in Galion, OH. Also included with the car is some original documentation including the original owners manual, warranty booklet showing the original owner's name, 1973 Chevrolet Consumer Information booklet, Chevrolet maintenance schedule, Emission Control Systems, and Firestone Tire booklet.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1973 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1973 was the last year to feature a chrome bumper and is considered by some to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Model years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1973 is considered the last "good" year by many enthusiasts. The 1973 model year is also considered a special and different year for Corvette enthusiasts as it was the only model to have chrome in the back and a rubber bumper in the front. It is representative of the transition Corvette was making at the time. As in investment, the 1973 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z37J3S413753 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "37" is the body style, sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, J, correct for an L48 Corvette. The sixth digit, "3," indicates the model year, 1973. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 13,753rd Corvette made for 1973.

This means "389" is the 389th day starting with January 1, 1972, which indicates the transmission was assembled on January 23, 1973.
Transmission VIN Stamping 413753 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 413753, are stamped on the main case meaning this transmission is original to this car.

condition

Exterior

The Elkhart Green exterior is in excellent condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss and nice shine. Both doors open and shut nicely as do the hood and headlights and the car exhibits good body panel fit overall. The bonding strips are still in place on all four fenders and still visible. The wheels are in excellent condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash on the beauty rings. Please note that this Corvette still has the correct and original 4-clip style beauty rings, not the cheap foreign made aftermarket replacements. The BF Goodrich Radial TA tires are brand new and are correctly sized 225/70R15. As one would except from a paintjob with this many years on it there are a few spots and blemishes in the paint and body around car that were too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. Amazingly, the front bumper on this Corvette is original and one can see in the photos that there are some expected cracks. I would never replace, repair, or change the front bumper. 1973 was the first year for the urethane bumpers on Corvettes and the technology at the time was not perfect; the urethane they used simply does not hold up after 45 years. For the sake of originally, preservation, value, and possible future judging the bumper should stay original. The car is much more desirable and correct with the original bumper. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL the glass on this Corvette, the "Astro Ventilation" door glass, the rear window, and even the windshield are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of February 1, 1973 (G01). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Saddle Vinyl interior in this Corvette is in outstanding condition and is totally original. The seats are in excellent shape and look just in person as the do in the photos with no excessive wear. There is small amount of wear in the typical area on the bead where the driver gets in and out and a specific photo of the area below. Please note that these are the original seats and skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. They do have the typical dry foam. The carpet is also in fantastic original condition with no major stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The carpet also appears to be original. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the gauge lenses are crystal clear. The door panels are in good shape overall. These are a few small cracks in the typical spot where the driver's elbow sits. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look great with no sun fading. The original AM/FM radio works and actually gets decent reception. Most importantly the dash has never cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. The jack is still with the car and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The spare is also still with the car. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The Stingray starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shift well throughout the power band. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct with the original upper ignition shielding, "GM" lettered hoses, and even correct hose clamps.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, wipers, indicators, and horn. The blower works on all speeds. Even very detailed items like the key buzzer and "Door Ajar" light work as one can see in the video. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no effort or binding in the mechanism. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1973 Corvette is in exceptional original condition. Any classic car can be restored, but a vehicle is only original once and originally cannot be reproduced. Low mileage examples in this year range are very rare and draw a huge premium over a standard Corvette. Numbers matching is very important in Corvette pricing and as one can see this car is very correct. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. The value of third generation Corvettes has increased dramatically in recent times, this is especially true for the 1973 model year. They are solid and wise investments for a collector. 1973 was a very special and one year only body style for Corvette that is always recognizable with the newer front end treatment and the classic chrome bumpers on the back. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission VIN stamp, transmission date, and transmission codes. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
