vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this beautiful 1973 Corvette in wonderful driver condition with the numbers matching engine and a 4-Speed manual transmission. This Corvette looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with nice lines and no rust issues. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise and 1973 is a special year. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

This Corvette is "Numbers Matching" meaning that the engine in the car now is the correct and original unit that was installed in the car brand new at the factory in St. Louis in 1972. The last six digits of the VIN are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below, and the engine is original to the car. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1973 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1973 was the last year to feature a chrome bumper and is considered by some to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Model years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1973 is considered the last "good" year by many enthusiasts. The 1973 model year is also considered a special and different year for Corvette enthusiasts as it was the only model to have chrome in the back and a rubber bumper in the front. It is representative of the transition Corvette was making at the time. As in investment, the 1973 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

numbers

item number description*
VIN 1Z37J3S403647 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "37" is the body style, sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, J, correct for an L48 Corvette. The sixth digit, "3," indicates the model year, 1973. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 3,647th Corvette made for 1973.
Body Build Date B29 "B" corresponds to September, and "29" is the twenty-ninth day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is September 29, 1972.
Engine Code V0921 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "09" is the ninth month of year and the "21" is the twenty-first day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on September 21, 1972.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CKZ This means the motor was intended for an L48 Corvette with a manual transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 403647 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 403647, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has a 3970010 casting number, which is correct for a small block 1973 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date I 5 2 "I" is September, "5" is the fifth day of the month, and the "2" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on September 5, 1972, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Cylinder Head Casting Number Left 3998993 The left cylinder head has a 3998993 casting number, which is correct for a small block 1973 Corvette.
Cylinder Head Casting Date Left I 20 2 "I" is September, "20" is the twentieth day of the month, and the "2" is the last digit of the calendar year so the left cylinder head was cast on September 20, 1972.
Cylinder Head Casting Number Right 3998993 The right cylinder head has a 3998993 casting number, which is correct for a small block 1973 Corvette.
Cylinder Head Casting Date Right I 21 2 "I" is September, "21" is the twenty-first day of the month, and the "2" is the last digit of the calendar year so the right cylinder head was cast on September 21, 1972.
Alternator 1100544 The alternator is original and correct for a 1973 Corvette with a/c with a 1100544 stamping.
Alternator Date Code 2G14 The "2" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "G" denotes July, and "14" is the fourteenth day of the month meaning the alternator was made on July 14, 1972. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Carburetor 7043434 The "70" is a code used on all Rochester carbs from 1965-1975. The third digit, "4," indicates it was made in the 1970 to 1975 production run. The fourth digit, "3," is the model year, 1973. The last digit, "4," means it was intended for use in an automatic transmission car. This is not the correct carb number for a 1973 Corvette, but it is a Rochester Quadrajet dated from 1973.
Left Exhaust Manifold Casting Number 3932461 The left side exhaust manifold has the correct 3932461 casting number for a 1973 with the L48 engine.
Right Exhaust Manifold Casting Number 3932461 The right side exhaust manifold has the correct 3932461 casting number for a 1973 with the L48 engine.
Bell Housing 3899621 The bell housing has the correct 3899621 casting number.
Transmission Main Case Casting Number 3925661 The main case of the transmission has the correct 3925661 casting number.
Transmission Tail Housing Casting Number 3978764 The tail housing of the transmission has the correct 3978764 casting number.
Transmission Side Cover Casting Number 3952648 The side cover of the transmission has the correct 3952648 casting number.
Transmission Date Code P2P08A The "P" indicates that this is a Muncie transmission. The "2" indicates the year, 1972. The "P" is the ninth month of the year and the "08" is the eighth day of the month. The "A" is a suffix letter that indicates the gear ratio, wide Ratio. So this is a Muncie 4-Speed transmission that was assembled on September 8, 1972. Please note that this stamping was hard to read correctly and is pictured below.
Transmission VIN Stamping 403647 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 403647, are stamped on the main case meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Rear Differential  LR W 265 E 1 The "LR" indicates a 3.36 gear ratio with positraction. The "W" is the plant where it was produced, Warren, MI. The "265" indicates the 265th day of the year, "E" is the source for the positraction, Eaton, and "1" is the shift in which it was made. So this rear end was produced on September 21, 1972 in Warren, MI during the first shift.
Windshield GY "G" is April and "Y" is 1972 so the windshield is original, made in April of 1972.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver's Window TY "T" is August and "Y" is 1972 so this window is original, made in August of 1981.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear Window TY "T" is August and "Y" is 1972 so this window is original, made in August of 1981.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Red exterior is in nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, smooth finish, and deep shine. Both doors open and shut nicely. The wheels and center caps are in excellent condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash on the beauty rings. The BF Goodrich Radial TA have plenty of tread left. There are a few spots and blemishes in the paint and body around car that were too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that almost all of the glass on this Corvette is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of September 29, 1972 (B29). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Saddle Vinyl interior in this Corvette is in great original condition. The seats looks just in person as they do in the photos with no excessive wear. Please note that these appear to the be the original seats and skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. There is small amount of wear in the typical area on the bead where the driver gets in and out and a specific photo of the area below. They do have the common dry foam, which is typically with original seats. The carpet is also in fantastic condition with no major stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The carpet also appears to be original. The gauge faces are crisp and clean and the lenses are clear. The door panels are in good shape overall. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.

This Stingray also comes with saddle colored T-top bags.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The Stingray shifts well, the transmission does not pop out of gear, and the clutch feels good.. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, interior lights, indicators, and wipers. The blower for the a/c and heater works on all speeds. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no effort or binding in the mechanism. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. The horn and a/c do not work. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the 4-Speed transmission and the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1973 Corvette is in great driver condition. Numbers matching is very important in Corvette pricing and as one can see this car is very correct. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. The value of third generation Corvettes has increased dramatically in recent times, this is especially true for the 1973 model year. They are solid and wise investments for a collector. 1973 was a very special and one year only body style for Corvette that is always recognizable with the newer front end treatment and the classic chrome bumpers on the back. While this is not an NCRS Top Flight or Bloomington Gold car, it is a very nice driver quality Corvette and a great car for the money. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission VIN stamp, transmission date, and transmission codes. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
