vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this beautiful 1973 Corvette Stingray in wonderful driver condition with matching numbers. This Corvette looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with nice lines and no rust issues. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise. The 1973 model is a very special one year only body style for Corvettes and the last year to feature a chrome bumper. Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

This Corvette is "Numbers Matching" meaning that the engine in the car now is the correct and original unit that was installed in the car brand new at the factory in St. Louis in 1972. The last six digits of the VIN are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below, and the engine is original to the car. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1973 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1973 was the last year to feature a chrome bumper and is considered by some to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Model years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1973 is considered the last "good" year by many enthusiasts. The 1973 model year is also considered a special and different year for Corvette enthusiasts as it was the only model to have chrome in the back and a rubber bumper in the front. It is representative of the transition Corvette was making at the time. As in investment, the 1973 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

numbers

item number description*
VIN 1Z37J3S408475 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "37" is the body style, sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, J, correct for an L48 Corvette. The sixth digit, "3," indicates the model year, 1973. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 8,475th Corvette made for 1973.
Body Build Date D28 "D" corresponds to November, and "28" is the twenty-eighth day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is November 28, 1972.
Engine Code V1121 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "11" is the eleventh month of year and the "21" is the twenty-first day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on November 21, 1972.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CLA This means the motor was intended for an L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 408475 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 408475, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has a 3970010 casting number, which is correct for a small block 1973 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date K 10 2 "K" is November, "10" is the tenth day of the month, and the "2" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on November 10, 1972, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Distributor 1112098 The distributor is original and correct for a 1973 Corvette with a 1112098 stamping.
Distributor Date Code 2K1 The "2" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "K" denotes October, and "1" is the first day of the month meaning the distributor was made on October 1, 1972.
Transmission 73-CK The "73" is the model year, 1973. The "C" means the transmission was made for a Chevrolet vehicle, and the "K" means is was intended for a Corvette with a 350ci engine, which is correct for this car.
Transmission Date Code 319 The assembly date code for the 1973 model year starts with the first day of the calendar year in 1972 and continues through the calendar year in 1972. This means "319" is the 319th day starting with January 1, 1972, which indicates the transmission was assembled on November 14, 1972.
Transmission VIN Stamping 408475 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 408475, are stamped on the main case meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Driver's Window CY "C" is November and "Y" is 1972 so this window is original, made in November of 1972.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger Window CY "C" is November and "Y" is 1972 so this window is original, made in November of 1972.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear Window YY The first "Y" is October and the second "Y" is 1972 so this window is original, made in October of 1972.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Classic White (910) exterior is in excellent driver condition, it is also the correct original color as verified by the code on the trim tag pictured below. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, smooth finish, and deep shine. The red stripe on the hood looks great and is a nice compliment to the red interior. The wheels and center caps are in excellent condition with a brilliant finish. The tires are brand new with less than 20 miles on them. The tires are also correctly sized 225/70R15. There are a few spots and blemishes in the paint and body around car that were too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. Both doors open and shut fine, but the gaps on left door are not properly aligned. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Please note that almost all of the glass on this Corvette is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of November 28, 1972 (D28). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The red interior in this Corvette is in superb condition. The seats look brand new with no rips, split seams, or signs or wear at all. The carpet is also in fantastic condition with no major stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The gauge faces are crisp and clean and the lenses are clear. The door panels are in good shape overall and unlike many other Corvettes of this era the door panels fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash have been capped and looks nice with no cracks or sun fading. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes whatsoever.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The Stingray shifts well throughout the power-band. The engine has some tasteful performance upgrades such as a Holly carburetor, Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, and headers. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as on can see in the photos.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, interior lights, indicators, and wipers. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. The blower for the heater works on all speeds but high. The horn does not work. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the 4-Speed transmission and the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1973 Corvette is in great driver condition. Numbers matching is very important in Corvette pricing and as one can see this car is very correct. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. The value of third generation Corvettes has increased dramatically in recent times, this is especially true for the 1973 model year. They are solid and wise investments for a collector. 1973 was a very special and one year only body style for Corvette that is always recognizable with the newer front end treatment and the classic chrome bumpers on the back. While this is not an NCRS Top Flight or Bloomington Gold car, it is a very nice driver quality Corvette and a great car for the money. The previous owner told us he thought the miles were original, but the title, pictured below, shows the mileage as nonactual. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission VIN stamp, transmission date, and transmission codes. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
