Exterior
The red exterior paint is excellent. The paint has very high
gloss, it is in absolutely stunning condition with no major
defects and nothing that can been seen from 5 feet away.
The body fit is excellent for a Corvette. Red is by
far the most sought after color on any Corvette and also the
most striking. The tires are virtually brand new with
what looks like no wear. This car even still has the
original Astro Ventilation glass for the two side windows.
The rear bumper was replaced with the more desirable
fiberglass version that will hold up much better over time
with a drastically improved fit. The car looks in
person just as it does in the photos. It appears the
hardtop was painted at a different time than the car.
All of the glass is
date coded and original to the car as it predates the build date of
December 11, 1980. This indicates that the car has never been in a
major accident and never sustained any significant damage.
Windshield: YZ - The "Y" denotes
October
and "Z" 1980 so the windshield was made in October of 1980.
Driver: YZ -
The "Y" denotes
October
and "Z" 1980 so the windshield was made in October of
1980.
Passenger: AZ - The "A" denotes
September and "Z" 1980 so the passenger's side window was made in
September of 1980.
Rear Window: CZ - The "C" denotes
November and "Z" 1980 so the rear window was made in
November of
1980.
Interior
The silver interior of the Corvette
is also in excellent condition. This car has the
factory option "custom interior trim," which it came with
new from GM. This includes leather seat trim, wood
grain accents on the doors, as well as lower carpet trim on
the door panels. The seats do not have any rips or
tears. They show very little wear. The driver’s
seat is not overly worn in the typical places, such as where
the driver’s belt-line may wear the seat bolsters. The
carpet is in very good condition as well, showing little
wear. The convertible top latches and closes easily as
it should, it has not shrunken, and the rear window has not
fogged up or yellowed over time.
Mechanical
The Corvette runs excellent.
The motor is very smooth with very much power. It
starts right away and idles very well. The
transmission shifts well. All of the gauges work with
the exception of the clock. The car brakes powerfully
and perfectly straight. Not enough can be said about
what a pleasure it is to drive this car especially with the
top down and the extra power from the L82. There are
absolutely no rust issues with this car. The frame is
in excellent condition with no rust and I have seen no
evidence of corrosion around the windshield and "A" pillar.
Every option on this car works, the blower, air
conditioning, horn, headlights, even the headlight override
vacuum switch works as it should.
Overall Condition
Overall the Corvette is in stunning
condition. Corvette Convertibles will always draw a
premium over other Corvettes due to their rarity and
desirability. The color combination and both tops also
makes this Corvette sought after. The 74 and 75
Convertibles are still some of the best deals around in the
Corvette market. This car can be driven and enjoyed
while continuing to appreciate in value. This body
style has increased in price rapidly over the past few
years. They are now over 30 years old and will continue to
increase in time.
