vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this one owner and completely numbers matching 1976 Corvette in beautiful condition. We purchased this car from a police officer who ordered it brand new in 1975. He stated that this Corvette was never a daily driver, never driven during winter months or in inclement weather, and never sustained any kind of accident, which all is confirmed by the condition of the car. Unbroken ownership history, especially with one single person, always adds to to provenance of any vintage vehicle and will be very beneficial to the value now and even more so in the future. This Corvette is totally solid with no rust issues and straight lines. It looks great, runs well, and is an awesome driver. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Stingray that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. This Corvette is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combination of Orange Flame over black and white interior. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car and ownership history, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, numbers, and video below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z37L6S409463 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "37" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, L, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "6," indicates the model year, 1976.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 9,463rd Corvette made for 1976.
Body Build Date C28 "C" corresponds to October, and the 28 is the 28th day of the month meaning this Corvette body build date is October 28, 1975.
Engine Code V1020 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "10" is the tenth month of year and the "20" is the twentieth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on October 20, 1975.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CKX This means the motor was intended for an L48 with an automatic, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 409463 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 401829, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.

Engine Block Casting Date J 7 5 "J" is October, "7" is the seventh day of the month, and "5" is 1975 so the engine block was cast on October 7, 1975.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Distributor 1112888 The distributor is original and correct with a 1112888 stamping.
Distributor Date Code 5K8 The "5" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "K" denotes October, and "8" is the eighth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on October 8, 1975.  This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 346249 The intake manifold has a 346249 casting number.
Intake Manifold Casting Date I 15 5 "I" is September, "15" is the fifteenth day of the month, and "5" is 1975 so the intake manifold was cast on September 15, 1975.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.

Driver's Window YI "Y" is October and "I" is 1975 so this window is original, made in October of 1975.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window YI "Y" is October and "I" is 1975 so this window is original, made in October of 1975.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

All Wheels K 1 5 10 3 AZ "K" means the wheels are original Kelsey-Hayes as they should be, "1" means they were made at the Romulus, MI plant, and the "5" means they were made in 1975.  The "10" is the tenth month of the year and "3" is the third day of the month.  This means the wheel was made on October 3, 1975.  "AZ" is a code that was used on wheels intended for a 1976 Corvette.

condition

Exterior

The Orange Flame exterior is in terrific driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The previous owner stated that the car has never been in any kind of accident or ever sustained any damage. The car exhibits good body panel fit overall, another sign of no accidents.  This Corvette has had just one repaint in the correct original color.  The previous owner stated that he had the car painted with Imron, which has held up great over the years and still looks superb.  If you are not familiar with Imron paint it is extremely durable and the finish of choice for many aircraft manufactures and other heavy duty industrial applications.  Often Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not.  There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some cracks in the front bumper, which is very common on the era Corvette with specific photos of the area below. It is not very noticeable in the photos or in person, but in certain lights the rear bumper is a shade off the rest of the car. There are some very small blemishes that were too small to faint up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from five feet away. The factory rally wheels, which are date coded and original, are good shape with a nice finish.

Window Date Codes

Please note that all of glass on this car is date coded and original, even the glass on the original hardtop, as each piece predates the car's body build date of October 28, 1975 (C28). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos

Interior

The tuxedo interior of the Corvette is also in great condition. The seats look just in person just as they do in the photos with no split seams, holes, or excessive wear. They are not worn through in the topically area where the driver gets in and out. The carpet is in nice condition for being original with no stains. The dash and center console look fantastic with no splits, sun fading, or cracks. The door panels are in great condition with no splits or cracks in the arm pad, which is a common problem on this era Corvette. Even the original wood grain inserts that only came with factory upgraded interior are in very nice shape on this car. The car has never been smoked in, there is no ash in the ashtray or aroma what so ever. The jack and jack handle are present and stowed correctly behind the passenger seat, which is pictured below showing the ordinal jack decal on the compartment lid. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life. Even very detailed items that are almost always broken or shabby are not on this car; details such as the finger pulls for the rear storage compartment and the fit of the center gauge cluster with the shifter console and down to the parking brake console.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This car seems to be in very good mechanical condition and we are not aware of any major work needed. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car drives terrifically; it is tight on the road and at highway speeds. There are no strange noises or vibrations. The transmission shifts smoothly. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is pretty fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), wipers, and blower for the heater on all speeds. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no binding as one can see in the video. One can also observe that the a/c is working in the video and the compressor clicks on, however we believe that there is a leak in one of the a/c lines. Luckily, this system has already been converted to the modern r134a style refrigerant. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with t-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1976 Corvette is in fantastic condition and would make an excellent driver. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is very correct. The originality, one-owner history, low miles, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owner. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
