vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is glad to offer this numbers matching 1976 Corvette in very nice driver condition that is ready to be enjoyed. It has very low original mileage of 71,910 and is finished the beautiful color combination of Classic White (10) over Firethorn Red Leather (712). This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag pictured below. As one can see in the extensive list of numbers below this Corvette is very correct and "Numbers Matching" meaning the last six digits of the VIN are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below, and the engine is original to the car. The transmission is also correct and original with the last 6 digits of the VIN stamped on the main case, which are pictured below.

The car runs great and is an awesome driver that feels great on the road. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 Corvettes is hot right now and on the rise. This Corvette is loaded with desirable options such as a/c (which actually blows cold), 8-Track player, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power antenna, automatic transmission, rear window defroster, and YJ8 aluminum wheels. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, that states the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of this Corvette.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z37L6S406814 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "37" is the body style, sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, L, correct for an L48 Corvette. The sixth digit, "6," indicates the model year, 1976. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 6,814th Corvette made for 1976.
Body Build Date C07 "C" corresponds to October, and the "07" is the seventh day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is October 7, 1975.
Engine Code V1001 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "10" is the tenth month of year and the "01" is the first day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on October 1, 1975.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code CKX This means the motor was intended for a non-California 350ci L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 406814 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 406814, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number a 1976 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date I 25 5 "I" is September, "25" is the twenty-fifth day of the month, and "5" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on September 25, 1975.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 346249 The intake has the correct 346249 casting number a 1973 Corvette.
Intake Manifold Casting Date I 26 5 "I" is September, "26" is the twenty-sixth day of the month, and "5" is the last digit of the calendar year so the intake was cast on September 26, 1975.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Distributor 1112888 The distributor is original and correct for a non-California 1976 Corvette L48 with a 1112888 stamping.
Distributor Date Code 5H5 The first "5" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "H" denotes August, and the second "5" is the fifth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on August 5, 1975.  This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Starter 1108776 The starter is original and correct for an automatic 1976 Corvette with a 1108776 stamping.
Starter Date Code 5J24 The "5" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "J" denotes September, and the "24" is the twenty-fourth day of the month meaning the starter was made on September 24, 1975.  This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Carburetor Main Body 17056206 The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission and a/c. The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run. The fifth digit, "6," means it was built for the 1976 model year. The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit, "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "6," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 2385 The assembly date code for the 1976 model year starts with the first day of the calendar year in 1975 and continues through the calendar year in 1976. This means "238" is the 238th day starting with January 1, 1975. The "5" is the year the carb was produced, which indicates the carburetor is dated August 26, 1975.
Transmission Date Code B6P23D The "B" is the plant where the transmission was produced, Cleveland. The "6" is the model year, 1976. The "P" means it was made in September, "23" is the twenty--third day of the month, and the "D" indicates it was made during the day shift. This means the transmission was made in the Cleveland (Parma) plant during the day shift on September 23, 1975.
Transmission VIN Stamping 406814 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 406814, are stamped on the main case of the transmission and pictured below meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Driver's Window YI The "Y" is October and the "I" is 1975 so this window is original, made in October of 1975.

condition

Exterior

The exterior is in nice driver condition and looks in person just as it does in the photos. The paint has a great gloss and deep shine. Both doors open and shut easily and operate well. The factory YJ8 aluminum wheels are in good condition with a nice finish and no curb rash. There is a blemish in the paint on the right rear decklid and we have included a specific photo of the area below. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos, there are some touch ups and light checking with specific photos below. There are some small blemishes that were to small or faint to be picked up by the camera, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. We have been very objective and comprehensive with the dozens of photos of the outside of the car. Most sellers and certainly most dealers would not be so upfront and detailed. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car this Corvette has no rust issues. The frame looks totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" and we have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield or "birdcage," which are the most common spots fro rust on this era Corvette.

Window Date Codes

Please note that the side glass and rear window on this Corvette are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of October 7, 1975 (C07). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Firethorn Red interior of the Corvette is in good condition overall and is especially nice for being all original. The seats are in good shape and look just in person as the do in the photos with a small amount of wear in the typical area on the driver's side where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet looks good and is also original. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. There is some wear on the drivers side and spot on the passenger side that has been patched, but as one can see in the photos this is not very noticeable. The carpet on the door panels is not faded or pulling away from the panel. The door panels themselves are in good shape overall and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The factory wood grain inserts are in great condition with no peeling or delamination. The radio gets good reception and even the 8-Track player still works, most importantly the original dash has never been cut or modified. The spare is still with the car as is the original jack and jack handle, which are stowed correctly in the compartment behind the passenger seat and pictured below. There is no aroma of cigarette smoke in the car. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the nice condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition; the was the car runs and drives are some of its strongest points. It starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car is an excellent driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts well, there are no strange vibrations, the brakes do not pull, and the car performs quite well overall. The transmission shifts smoothly. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. All of the gauges, speedo, tach, odometer, temp gauge, oil pressure, battery gauge, and fuel gauge, all work properly; the clock is obviously not working. The lights, horn, indicators, key buzzer, wipers, rear window defroster, and even the power antenna all work. The blower motor for the heater and a/c works on all speeds and the a/c blows cold. Also, the a/c has been converted to the modern style r134a refrigerant, which means any future service will be much easier and cheaper. Both power windows work, but the passenger window needs a hand when it is near the top so it may need a new gear for the regulator. The headlights pop up and the vacuum system for the lights works correctly from both the switch on the dash and override switch; their complete operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. The true dual exhaust system with headers and no catalytic converter is brand new from the headers back has a very healthy tone. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with T-Tops  out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1976 Corvette is in great driver condition. Numbers matching is very important in Corvette pricing and as one can see this car is very correct. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. The value of third generation Corvettes has increased dramatically in recent times. They are solid and wise investments for a collector. While this is not an NCRS Top Flight or Bloomington Gold car, it is a very nice driver quality Corvette and a great car for the money. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission VIN stamp, and transmission codes. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
