about our dealership
Seven Hills Motorcars is Cincinnati's premier Corvette specialist and a licensed and registered auto dealer by the State of Ohio.  With many years of focused experience I specialize in 1957 to 1982 Corvettes.  There is no other dealership that can better meet your needs if you would like to buy, sell, or just find out more information about your Corvette.  This is simply a one man operation, and this is not my full time employment.  I do it because I enjoy it.  I am a collector and enthusiast and therefore look for cars that excite me.  I do not purchase at dealer auctions; each car is hand picked by me because it is special or rare to me and because I like it.

vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is glad to offer this low mileage and completely numbers matching 1978 Silver Anniversary Edition Corvette that is an excellent driver and priced to sell.  The car is totally solid and rust free.  It runs awesome and is a blast to drive.  This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value.  One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal work and effort.  The low mileage is supported not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, that states the mileage as, "Actual."  Please peruse all of the photos and numbers below to get a true sense of how original and correct this Corvette really is.

Please notice that all 1978 Corvettes wore the "25th Anniversary" badge.  However, only certain cars, such as this example, were the actual Silver Anniversary Editions with the Silver Anniversary regular production order, "B2Z."  This is verified by the trim tag that is pictured below showing the paint to be 13 for the bright silver upper sections and 07, which was only used in 1978 and only for the B27 Corvettes, on the darker lower portion.

Chevrolet marked Corvette's 25th Anniversary in 1978 with the most extensive redesign of the car since the introduction of the C3 body style in 1968.  The new Corvette introduced a large fastback style rear window that drastically increased luggage space in the rear compartment behind the seats.  The interior of the 1978 was also significantly redesigned.  The speedometer and tachometer were redesigned in a more square and vertical mode.  A glove box was added on the passenger side to replace the pocket.  The door panels were also completely new and included screw on arm rests to replace the molded style that been the standard since 1965.  1978 Corvettes featured special 25th Anniversary emblems specific to that year.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z87L8S416647 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, L, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "8," indicates the year, 1978.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 16,647th Corvette made in 1978, which places the car's build date in January of 1978.
Body Build Date E16 "E" corresponds to January, and the "16" is the sixteenth day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is January 16, 1978.
Engine Code V0109 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "01" is the first month of year and the "09" is the ninth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on January 9, 1978.
Suffix Code CUT This means the motor was intended for an L48 with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 416647 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 416647, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date L 10 7 "L" is December, "10" is the tenth day of the month, and "7" is 1977 so the engine block was cast on December 10, 1977.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Distributor 1103353 The distributor is correct with 1103353 stamped on the housing.
Distributor Date Code 7M19 The "7" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "M" denotes December, and "19" is the nineteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on December 19, 1977.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 346249 The intake manifold is correct with a 346249 casting number.
Intake Manifold Casting Date A 7 8 "A" is January, "7" is the seventh day of the month, and "8" is 1978 so the intake manifold was cast on January 7, 1978.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Carburetor Main Body 17058204 The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L48 Corvette.  The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run.  The fifth digit,  "8," means it was built for the 1978 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "4," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 3577 The first three digits, "357" indicate the 357th day of the year.  The last digit, "7" is the year it was produced, 1977.  So the carb  was stamped on December 23, 1977.
Alternator 1102983 The alternator has the correct stamping, 1102983, for a 1978 Corvette with air conditioning.
Alternator Date Code 7M5 The "7" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "M" denotes December, and "5" is the fifth day of the month meaning the alternator was made on December 5, 1977.
Driver's Window YG "Y" is October and "G" is 1977 so this window is original, made in October of 1977.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window YG "Y" is October and "G" is 1977 so this window is original, made in October of 1977.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear  Window YG "Y" is October and "G" is 1977 so this window is original, made in October of 1977.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The two tone exterior is in presentable driver condition.  As one can see in the photos the finish has decent gloss and smooth finish.  There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos.  The paintjob has some age and blemishes, which is evident in the photos.  I have done my best to accurately and objectively photograph the car and show the flaws, but some are too small or cannot be picked up by the camera.  One should really view the car in person to get the best and most accurate idea of what the car really looks like.  For the most part however, the car looks in person as it does in the photos.  The paint appears to be largely original, but does look like some work has been done to the left front.  The wheels are in great condition with a nice finish and no major curb rash. The tires are in nice shape with about 80% tread left.

Interior

The Oyster Leather interior of the Corvette is in great condition for original.  The seats look in person just as they do in the photos with some usual wear on the drivers side in the typical area.  Please note that these are the original seats, not some cheap aftermarket replacement.  The carpet is in good condition for original no notable stains.  This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected.  The door panels are in good shape and unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door.  The dash and console are in awesome condition with no cracks, sun damage, or fading.  The rear cargo cover operates properly and has no rips or tears.  This car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma whatsoever.  The original pedal pads are not excessively worn and, as one can see from the pictures, show normal wear for a car with this mileage.  The original jack and jack handle are still with the car.  The t-top storage bags are also included with the car.  Even the original arm rest pad is still with the car and in nice shape.  Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the good condition of this original interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life

Mechanical

This car seems to be in good mechanical condition.  The car starts right away every time, idles well, runs well.  There are no issues that immediately affect the drivability of the car.  The car drives great; it is smooth on the road and at highway speeds.  There is no smoke when starting or driving the car.  The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other.  The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band.  Also, the engine compartment is nicely detailed as one can see in the photos.  This Corvette has plenty of power and is very fast.  The horn works as do the headlights, fan for the heater and a/c, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), wipers, lights, power windows, and even the power locks, which are a very common problem on this era Corvette.  The vacuum for the headlights works as both lights pop up with the headlight switch or override switch as they should.  The only items I am aware of on the car that do not work are the cruise control and a/c.  Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the t-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall
Condition

Overall the Corvette is in great condition.  Special and Anniversary Edition Corvettes always draw a premium over their standard Corvette counterparts.  Numbers matching and originality are extremely important in Corvette pricing, and as you can see this car very original and correct.  The value of the late C3 body style cars has gone up dramatically in the past few years.  They are all solid investments for a collector.  You can drive and enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than your purchase price.
