vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is glad to offer this low mileage and completely numbers matching 1978 Silver Anniversary Edition Corvette in excellent condition and priced to sell with the L82 engine and 4-Speed close ratio manual transmission. A true Silver Anniversary Edition L82 with a close ratio 4-Speed is just about the best option package imaginable for a late C3 Corvette, they are exceptionally rare and virtually impossible to find. The car is totally solid with great lines and is rust free. It runs well and drives great. The Corvette is finished in the beautiful and highly desirable color combination of RPO B27 Silver Anniversary Two Tone over Black Leather interior, which is the correct and original color combination as verified by the codes on the trim tag and build sheet, both pictured below. Most Silver Anniversary Edition Corvettes came with Oyster interior. Black is much more desirable and rare. This is an excellent opportunity to own a wonderful classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price as the market on C3 Corvette is hot right now and on the rise. The low mileage is supported not only by the condition, but also the documents included with the car and the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as, "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, numbers, and video below to get a true sense of how original, correct, and nice this Corvette really is.

We purchased this Corvette from a gentleman in southern Ohio. He was a definite Corvette enthusiast with great taste in cars. In the past we also purchased a 1982 Collector Edition Corvette with 42,900 miles and a 1978 Pace Car with 23,600 miles from the same owner. It was a beautiful day when we purchased this Silver Anniversary so I actually drove the back to our dealership, which was over an hour drive. During the trip is the car was completely reliable, operated impeccably with no issues, and was an absolute pleasure to drive.

Please notice that all 1978 Corvettes wore the "25th Anniversary" badge. However, only certain cars, such as this example, were the actual Silver Anniversary Editions with the Silver Anniversary regular production order (RPO), "B2Z." This is verified by the trim tag that is pictured below showing the paint to be 13 for the bright Silver upper sections and 07 for the Dark Gray lower section, which was only used in 1978 and only for the B2Z Corvettes, on the darker lower portion.

Included with the car is a massive amount of original documentation and history on the car. Most importantly the original build sheet is included, which is especially important for this Corvette as it verifies as original the highly desirable options like the B2Z paint, L82 engine, M21 close ratio transmission, and YJ8 Aluminum wheels. A copy of the window sticker, the original warranty book, original owners manual, Goodyear Tire booklet, battery pamphlet, consumer information booklet, and aluminum wheel instructions are all still with the car.

Also included are dozens of receipts for maintenance over years. This Corvette was a Mid America Designs customer calendar winner and featured in the Mid America calendar in 1998. There are photos below of the letter from Mid America to the previous owner informing him of the win and a photo of the calendar feature, which states that the car had 33,000 miles at the time
.

This Corvette is completely "Numbers Matching" and virtually every part we checked on the car is correct. We have run the numbers on hundreds of Corvettes and there are very few that are so many correct and original components with correct numbers and dates. The last six digits of the VIN are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below, and the engine is original to the car. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

Chevrolet marked Corvette's 25th Anniversary in 1978 with the most extensive redesign of the car since the introduction of the C3 body style in 1968. The new Corvette introduced a large fastback style rear window that drastically increased luggage space in the rear compartment behind the seats. The interior of the 1978 was also significantly redesigned. The speedometer and tachometer were redesigned in a more square and vertical mode. A glove box was added on the passenger side to replace the pocket. The door panels were also completely new and included screw on arm rests to replace the molded style that been the standard since 1965. 1978 Corvettes featured special 25th Anniversary emblems specific to that year.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

condition

Exterior

The Two Tone Silver (13) and Charcoal (07) exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a terrific gloss and deep shine. Often Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not. The original YJ8 aluminum wheels are in great shape with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The Goodyear Eagle GT tires have lots of tread left and are sized 255/60/15. Both doors open and shut nicely. There are no major scratches, scrapes, or other imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There may be some small blemishes that were to small to show up in the photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from five feet away. There are NO RUST ISSUES with this car and as one can see in the many photos of the underside it is very clean underneath. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire and there are no signs of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious areas for rust on a Corvette of this era.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette, both side windows, the rear window, and even the windshield are all date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of February 7, 1978 (F07). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Black Leather interior of the Corvette is in splendid condition. The seats are in excellent shape with no rips, seam splits, or excessive wear. The original carpet is in good condition with no notable rips or holes. This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected. All of the gauge faces are crisp and clean and the lenses are clear. The door panels are in nice shape and both door pulls are solid and in tact. Unlike many Corvettes of this age, the door panels actually fit well and tight to the door. The dash and console are in excellent condition with no cracks, sun damage, or fading. The original stereo with CB radio is still in the car and sounds good. This car has not been smoked in and there is no cigarette aroma whatsoever. The original pedal pads are not excessively worn and, as one can see from the pictures, show normal wear for car with this mileage. The jack and jack handle are still present with the car and stowed correctly behind the passenger seat, pictured below showing the original stickers on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car and has never been used. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well and the amazing condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette is in great mechanical condition and it is ready to be enjoyed. I have personally put over 60 miles on this Corvette and during that time it has been completely reliable with no issues at all. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. It drives terrifically and it is smooth on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, braking to stoplight, going through some curves, and shifting through all the gears. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The shifter is tight, the transmission does not pop out of gear, and the clutch feels good. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast with the L82 engine. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct as one can see in the photos.

The wipers work as do all the exterior lights, interior lights, turn signals, indicators, horn, and blower for the heater on all speeds. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. The entire vacuum system for the headlights works with no binding in the mechanism. Also, the headlights are slow and go up correctly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. As one can hear in the video the car has a very healthy exhaust note from the sidepipes and true dual exhaust with no catalytic converter. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drives just as great as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1978 L82 4-Speed Silver Anniversary Corvette is in great condition and an excellent driver. Special and Anniversary Edition Corvettes always draw a premium over their standard Corvette counterparts. The originality, the low miles, the highly desirable options, the beautiful original color combination, and the great overall condition make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. Matching numbers is very important in Corvette pricing and as one can see this car is very correct. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years. This is especially true with the Silver Anniversary Editions in our experience. These cars have been catching up to the '78 Pace Cars in value and many people, myself included, prefer the Anniversary Edition over the Pace Car. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The Silver Anniversary Edition Corvettes are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
