vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this completely numbers matching 1979 Corvette in excellent condition with only 34,870 original miles. This car looks great, runs well, and feels awesome out on the road. It is loaded with highly desirable options such as, N90 aluminum wheels, power windows, air conditioning (which actually blows cold), sport mirrors, and the color scheme. The Black over Red Leather is one of the most attractive and desirable color combinations available for 1979. It is also the original color scheme as indicated by the trim tag pictured below. Also pictured below is the engine pad showing the last six digits of the VIN indicating that this is the original engine that was installed in the car at the factory in St. Louis in 1979. This is definitely one of the most original low mileage 1979 Corvettes on the market right now. This Corvette is totally solid with no rust issues and straight lines. The low mileage is verified by not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and original this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The Corvette evolution continues" announced the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog. The L48 engine received the dual-snorkel air intake introduced in 1978 for the optional L82 V-8, which added 10 horsepower. All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z8789S450303 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, "8," correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "9," indicates the model year, 1979.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 50,303rd Corvette made for 1979.
Body Build Date M30 "M" corresponds to August, and the 30 is the thirtieth day of the month meaning this Corvette body build date is August 30, 1979.
Engine Code V0723 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "07" is the seventh month of year and the "23" is the twenty-third day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on July 23, 1979.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code ZAH This means the motor was intended for an L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 450303 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 450303, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 14016379 The engine block has the correct 14016379 casting number for a late 1979.
Engine Block Casting Date G 18 9 "G" is July, "18" is the eighteenth day of the month, and "9" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on July 18, 1979.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Distributor 1103302 The distributor is original and correct with a 1103302 stamping with a ZAH suffix code.
Distributor Date Code 9E25 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "E" denotes May, and "25" is the twenty-fifth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on May 25, 1979.  This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14014433 The intake manifold is correct for a late 1979 Corvette with a 14014433 casting number.
Carburetor Main Body 17059216 The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission and a/c. The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run. The fifth digit, "9," means it was built for the 1979 model year. The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit, "1," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "6," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 2339 The firth three digits, "233," indicate the 233rd day of the year. The last digit, "9," is the year in which the carburetor was produced, 1979. So this carburetor was stamped on August 21, 1979.
Alternator 1102908 The alternator is correct for a Corvette with a/c and has 1102908 stamped on the housing.
Alternator Date Code 9F18 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "F" denotes June, and "18" is the eighteenth day of the month meaning the alternator was made on June 18, 1979.
Windshield TA The "A" is August and the "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in August of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver's Window UA The "U" is July and the "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in July of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window UA The "U" is July and the "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in July of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear Window JA The "J" is May and the "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in May of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Black exterior is in good driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The late C3 Corvettes always look particularly nice in black. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some faint blemishes in the paint around the car that were too small to show up in the pictures, but nothing that is very noticeable from about five or ten feet away. The one notable blemish, which is visible in the photos, is on the tip of the nose of the car. This is a very common flaw due to the long front end on these Corvettes. Luckily, the blemish is only on the urethane front bumper, there is nothing on the actual fiberglass. It would not be difficult or expensive to have the front bumper resprayed especially since black is an easy color to match. The factory N90 aluminum wheels are in nice shape with a nice finish and no curb rash. The tires appear to have about 75% tread left, but do show some age and have some small cracks. As one can see in the photos of the underside of the car, this Corvette is totally solid.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of August 30, 1979 (M30). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Red leather interior of the Corvette is in awesome original condition. The seats are in amazing condition with no rips, split seams, or excessive wear. The drivers seat is not worn through in the typical area where the driver gets in and out; there is a specific photo of the area before. Please note that these are the original seats, not some cheap aftermarket replacements. The carpet is in excellent original condition with no major stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected. The console and dash are in great condition with no cracks or sun damage. The door panels are in excellent shape with no splits or tears and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door. Also, the door pulls are solid and intact. This car has no aroma of cigarettes whatsoever. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. It is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. It starts right away every time and idles well. The transmission shifts well throughout the power band. The brakes do not pull to one side of the other. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The wipers work as do all the exterior lights, blower for the heater and a/c, and power windows. Even the a/c blows cold and blows out of the correct vents. All of the gauges work with the exception of the temp gauge and obviously the clock. The car does not overheat; we have checked the engine temperature with an infrared heat gun after driving and the car is runs correctly at 190 degrees. As with many older carbureted cars this one is quite cold blooded. There are a few items on the car that do not work like the horn, interior lights (which are on the same circuit as the horn), and the power locks. The entire vacuum system for the headlights works correctly from both the switch on the dash and the override switch; their operation from both switches can be observed in the video. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1979 Corvette is in terrific condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with a low mileage car like this. The originality, the rare and desirable color combination, very low mileage, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
