about the dealership
Seven Hills Motorcars is Cincinnati's premier Corvette specialist and a licensed and registered auto dealer by the State of Ohio.  With many years of focused experience I specialize in 1963 to 1982 Corvettes.  There is no other dealership that can better meet your needs if you would like to buy, sell, or just find out more information about your Corvette.  This is simply a one man operation, and this is not my full time employment.  I do it because I enjoy it.  I am a collector and enthusiast and therefore look for cars that excite me.  I do not purchase at dealer auctions; each car is hand picked by me because it is special or rare to me and because I like it.

vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this stunning 1979 Corvette in excellent condition with the rare and highly desirable 4-Speed manual transmission, factory spoiler package, and only 50,850 original miles (81,830 original kilometers).  This is definitely one of the nicest low mileage 1979 Corvettes on the market right now with a manual tranmsission.  The car looks and drives awesome and is ready to be enjoyed.  The black over silver color combination looks great on this car.  The low mileage is verified by not only the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, stating the mileage as "actual" and the results of the Ohio title search, which are also featured below.  This particular Corvette was original sold new to a customer in Canada so that is why the speedometer and odometer are in kilometers, not miles.  The car has been registered and located in Ohio since at least the 1990's so registration in other states and the fact this is a Canadian car should not be a problem.  Please peruse all of the photos and the list of numbers below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and original this Corvette really is.

"The Corvette evolution continues" proclaimed the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog.  All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car.  A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area.  1979 was also the last year to feature bumpers without integrated spoilers.  Some enthusiasts prefer the simple lines and cleaner look of this body style over the 1980-82 Corvette.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z8789S424394 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 4, correct for an L82 car.  The sixth digit, "9," indicates the model year, 1979.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 24,394th Corvette made for 1979.

Engine Code V0374 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "03" should be the month and "74" the day of the month so this stamping does not make sense and may be incorrect.

Distributor Date Code 9 A 10 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "A" denotes January, and "10" is the tenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on Janury 10, 1979.
Carburetor Main Body

17059203

The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L82 Corvette.  The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run.  The fifth digit,  "9," means it was built for the 1979 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "3," means it was intended for use in an manual tranmssion car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 0389 The first three digits, "038" indicate the 38th day of the year.  The last digit, "9" is the year it was produced, 1979.  So the carb  was stamped on February 7, 1979.
Exhaust Manifold Right 3932461 The right exhaust manifold is correct with a 3932461 casting number.
Exhaust Manifold Left 386711 The left exhaust manifold has a 386711 casting number which corresponds to a 1972 Corvette with the LT1 engine option.

title history

I have completed a title history search on this Corvette through the state of Ohio.  Please note that every new entry is not necessary a new owner of the car.  The search shows the mileage as actual with small consistent increases like you would want to see starting form the first records about 14 years ago when the car had 70,000 kilometers.  The results also show that Seven Hills Motorcars, Inc is the current owner of this Corvette, the mileage is still actual, and that this is a clean title with no liens.

condition

Exterior

The black exterior is in absolutely beautiful driver condition.  As one can see in the photos the finish has a dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish.  Often many Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, especially a 1979 with the spoiler package, this car does notThe wheels are in excellent condition with no curb rash and a brilliant finish.  There are no major blemishes that have been intentionally excluded from the photos.  There are some imperfections that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away.  Specific photos below show some small touch ups and other small imperfections.  The tires are in nice shape with about 80% tread left.  This Corvette has absolutely NO rust issues.  The frame is totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the most notorious areas for rust on a C3 Corvette.

Window Date Codes

Please note that most of glass on this car is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of February 22, 1979 (G22). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The silver interior of the Corvette is in fantastic condition.  The seats look literally brand new with no rips, splits seams, or signs of excessive wear.  They are not worn in the typical areas such as where the driver gets in and out.  The carpet is also in "like new" condition with no rips, stains, or holes.  This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected.  The door panels are in great shape and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door.  There is a crack in the parking brake handle.  The dash and console are in nice condition with no cracks, fading, or sun damage.  This car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma whatsoever.  Please note that even very detailed items that are always an issue on this era Corvette, such as the fit of the carpet against the console and the rear compartment storage tray frame, are in excellent condition on this Corvette.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in fine mechanical condition and it is a great driver.  There is no smoke when starting or driving the car.  The transmission shifts well and the clutch feels good.  The car drives terrifically; it is tight on the road and at highway speeds.  The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other.  Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos.  All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock and the tachometer has been sporadic.  The headlights pop up with no binding.  The pull down vacuum switch for the headlights works as well.  The horn works as do the wipers, and the blower works on all speeds.  The heater core has been bypassed.  All of the interior and exterior lights work with the exception of the brights.  As with most C3 Corvettes, the power locks are not functional.  This Corvette has plenty of power and is very fast.  Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the 4-speed transmission and t-tops out on a nice day.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1979 Corvette is in terrific condition.  The originality, low original mileage, and the rare manual transmission make this car especially important and hard to duplicate.  This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road.   It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners.  The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past several years.  They are secure and wise investments for a collector.  One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
