about our dealership
Seven Hills Motorcars is Cincinnati's premier Corvette specialist and a licensed and registered auto dealer by the State of Ohio.  With many years of focused experience I specialize in 1957 to 1982 Corvettes.  There is no other dealership that can better meet your needs if you would like to buy, sell, or just find out more information about your Corvette.  This is simply a one man operation, and this is not my full time employment.  I do it because I enjoy it.  I am a collector and enthusiast and therefore look for cars that excite me.  I do not purchase at dealer auctions; each car is hand picked by me because it is special or rare to me and because I like it.

vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is glad to offer this completely numbers matching 1979 Corvette that is an excellent driver and priced to sell with only 69,380 original miles.  The car is totally solid and rust free.  It looks great, runs awesome, and is a blast to drive.  This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value.  One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal work and effort.  The Corvette is finished in the beautiful an desirable color combinations of Dark Blue Metallic over an Oyster interior.  This is the original color scheme as verified on trim tag pictured below.  The low mileage is supported not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, which indicates the mileage as "Actual."  Please peruse all of the photos and numbers below to get a true sense of this Corvette.

"The Corvette evolution continues" announced the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog.  The L48 engine received the dual-snorkel air intake introduced in 1978 for the optional L82 V-8, which added 10 horsepower.  All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car.  A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z8789S432377 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "9," indicates the model year, 1979.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 32,377th Corvette made for 1979, which places the car's build date in April of 1979.
Body Build Date I24 "I" corresponds to April, and the "24" is the twenty-fourth day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is April 24, 1979.
Engine Code V0409 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "04" is the fourth month of year and the "09" is the ninth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on April 9, 1979.
Suffix Code ZAH This means the motor was intended for an L48 with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 432377 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 432377, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date D 5 9 "D" is April, "5" is the fifth day of the month, and "9" is 1979 so the engine block was cast on April 5, 1979.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Distributor 1103302 The distributor is correct with 1103302 stamped on the housing.  Also, please note that this distributor was only used on engine with the "ZAH" suffix code, white is correct for this car.
Distributor Date Code 9C26 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "C" denotes March, and "26" is the twenty-sixth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on March 26, 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Carburetor Main Body

17059216

The carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L48 Corvette with a/c.  The first three digits, "170," indicate the carb was made after 1976.  The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run.  The fifth digit,  "9," means it was built for the 1979 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "1," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "6," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 1099 The first three digits, "109" indicate the 109th day of the year.  The last digit, "9" is the year it was produced, 1979.  So the carb  was stamped on April 19, 1979.
Exhaust Manifolds 3932461 Both exhaust manifolds have the correct 3932461 casting number.
Windshield GA "G" is April and "A" is 1979 so the windshield is original, made in April of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver's Window LA "L" is March and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in March of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window LA "L" is March and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in March of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear  Window LA "L" is March and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in March of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The dark blue metallic exterior is in presentable driver condition.  As one can see in the photos the finish has decent gloss and smooth finish.  There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos.  The paintjob does have some age and blemishes, which is evident in the photos.  I have done my best to accurately and objectively photograph the car and show the flaws, but some are too small or cannot be picked up by the camera.  One should really view the car in person to get the best and most accurate idea of what the car really looks like.  For the most part however, the car looks in person as it does in the photosThe wheels are in great condition with a nice finish and no major curb rash. The tires are almost brand new with about 95% tread left.  There are no rust issues with this car.  The frame is solid with no rust in front of the rear tire around the "key hole" and there no rust visible on the "A" pillar around the windshield.

Window Date Codes

Please note that all of the glass on this car, the windshield, door glass, and rear window, is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of April 24, 1979 (I24). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Oyster interior is in good condition.  The seats look in person just as they do in the photos and show very little wear with no damage, tears, or split seams.  They are not overly worn in the typical areas such as where the driver gets in and out of the car.  The carpet is in excellent condition with no major stains, rips, or holes.  This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected.  The rear cargo cover operates properly and has no slits or tears.  The original pedal pads are not excessively worn and, as one can see from the photos, show normal wear for a car with this mileage.  This car has not been smoked in and there is aroma of cigarettes whatsoever.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition.  The car starts right away every time, idles well, runs well.  The car drives nicely and it is smooth on the road.  There is no smoke when starting or driving the car.  The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other.  The transmission shifts well throughout the power band.  Also, the engine compartment is nicely detailed as one can see in the photos.  This Corvette has plenty of power and is very fast.  There feels like there is some slack in rear suspension, most notable on the highway.  The horn works as do the headlights, fan for the heater and a/c, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), wipers, lights, and power windows.  The vacuum for the headlights works as both lights pop up with the headlight switch or override switch as they should.  The only items I am aware of on the car that do not work are the cruise control, a/c, and power locks, which are all very common problems on this era Corvette.  Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the t-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1979 Corvette is in great driver condition.  This car is a great value and we have priced it to sell.  Numbers matching and originally are extremely important in Corvette price and as one can see, this example is very correct.  The car turns heads and gets ton of attentions wherever it goes.  The value of the C3 body style cars has gone up dramatically in the past few years.  They are all solid investments for a collector.  One could drive and enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
