about the dealership
Seven Hills Motorcars is Cincinnati's premier Corvette specialist and a licensed and registered auto dealer by the State of Ohio.  With many years of focused experience I specialize in 1963 to 1982 Corvettes.  There is no other dealership that can better meet your needs if you would like to buy, sell, or just find out more information about your Corvette.  This is simply a one man operation, and this is not my full time employment.  I do it because I enjoy it.  I am a collector and enthusiast and therefore look for cars that excite me.  I do not purchase at dealer auctions; each car is hand picked by me because it is special or rare to me and because I like it.

vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this completely numbers matching 1979 Corvette in beautifully original condition with the high performance L82 engine option and only 34,120 original miles.  It is loaded with other highly desirable options such as spoilers, CB radio, and the color scheme.  The Dark Blue Metallic over Light Beige is one of the most attractive and desirable color combinations available for 1979.  It is also the original color scheme as indicated by the trim tag pictured below.  In fact all of these highly desirable options are verified as original as this Corvette comes with a great amount of documentation including the original window sticker and original build sheet.  This is definitely one of the best optioned low mileage 1979 Corvettes on the market right now.  This Corvette is an exceptional driver and I wouldn't hesitate to hop in and take a road trip.  The low mileage is verified by not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, stating the mileage as "actual."  Please peruse all of the photos and the list of numbers below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and original this Corvette really is.

"The Corvette evolution continues" proclaimed the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog.  A new "open flow" muffler design increased the horsepower on the L82 engines by 5hp.  All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car.  A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area.  1979 was also the last year to feature bumpers without integrated spoilers.  Some enthusiasts prefer the simple lines and cleaner look of this body style over the 1980-82 Corvette.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z8749S436289 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 4, correct for an L82 car.  The sixth digit, "9," indicates the model year, 1979.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 36,289th Corvette made for 1979.
Body Build Date J21 "J" corresponds to May, and the 21 is the twnety-first day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is May 21, 1979.
Engine Code V0510 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "05" is the fifth month of year and the "10" is the tenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on May 10, 1979.

Engine VIN Stamping 436289 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 436289, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date D 3 9 "D" is April, "3" is the third day of the month, and "9" is 1979 so the engine block was cast on April 3, 1979.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14007378 The aluminum intake manifold is correct for an L82 with a 14007378 casting number.
Distributor 1110291 The distributor is correct with 1110291 stamped on the housing.
Distributor Date Code 9 D 17 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "D" denotes April, and "17" is the seventeenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on April 17, 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the engine.

17059228

The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L82 Corvette with a/c.  The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run.  The fifth digit,  "9," means it was built for the 1979 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "2," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "8," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 1249 The first three digits, "124" indicate the 124th day of the year.  The last digit, "9" is the year it was produced, 1979.  So the carb  was stamped on May 4, 1979.
Starter 1109065 The starter is correct with 1109065 stamped on the housing.
Starter Date Code 9 E 7 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "E" denotes May, and "7" is the seventh day of the month meaning the distributor was made on May 7, 1979.
Transmission Casting Number 8640820 The transmission has the correct casting number for a TH350.
Transmission Casting Date 4-79 The main case of the transmission was cast in April of 1979.

condition

Exterior

The Dark Blue Metallic exterior is in decent driver condition.  As one can see in the photos the finish has nice gloss and deep shine.  The doors open and shut very nicely and I would say that the car has above average body panel fit overall.  There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos.  The paintjob has some age and blemishes, which is evident in the photos.  There are some paint issues on the right front fender, and a specific photo of the area below.  I have done my best to accurately and objectively photograph the car and show the flaws, but some are too small or cannot be picked up by the camera.  One should really view the car in person to get the best and most accurate idea of what the car really looks like.  For the most part however, the car looks in person as it does in the photos This Corvette has absolutely no rust issues. The frame is totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield.  The wheels are in good condition with a nice finish.  The tires appear to have about 80% tread left.

Window Date Codes

Please note that all of glass on this car is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of May 21, 1979 (J21). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Oyster interior of the Corvette is in awesome original condition.  The seats look great with no tears, split seems, or excessive wear Please note that these are the original seats, not some cheap after market replacements.  The carpet is in excellent original condition with no stains or holes This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected.  The console and dash are in great condition with no cracks or sun damage.  The door panels are in amazing shape with no splits or tears and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door.  This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma whatsoever.  Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition.  It is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds.  This Corvette has plenty of power and is very fast.  There is no smoke when starting or driving the car.  It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs well.  The transmission shifts well throughout the power band.  The brakes do not pull to one side of the other.  Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos.  The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), wipers, blower for the heater and a/c, and power windows.  The a/c does not blow cold, but the compressor is free and not locked up so the system most likely needs to be recharged and the power locks do not work.  The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly from both the switch on the dash and the override switch.  Please note that this car has not been molested and the catalytic converter and smog system are still in place.  Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the t-tops out on a beautiful day and the extra power from the L82 engine.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1979 L82 Corvette is in terrific condition.  Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with high performance options like the L82 and a low mileage car like this.  The originality, the rare and desirable color combination, the appealin options, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate.   This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road.   It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners.  The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past several years.  They are secure and wise investments for a collector.  One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
