about the dealership
Seven Hills Motorcars is Cincinnati's premier Corvette specialist and a licensed and registered auto dealer by the State of Ohio.  With many years of focused experience I specialize in 1963 to 1982 Corvettes.  There is no other dealership that can better meet your needs if you would like to buy, sell, or just find out more information about your Corvette.  This is simply a one man operation, and this is not my full time employment.  I do it because I enjoy it.  I am a collector and enthusiast and therefore look for cars that excite me.  I do not purchase at dealer auctions; each car is hand picked by me because it is special or rare to me and because I like it.

vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this completely numbers matching 1979 Corvette in excellent condition with the high performance L82 engine option and only 38,490 original miles.  This is definitely one of the nicest low mileage 1979 Corvettes on the market right now.  The car looks and drives awesome and is ready to be enjoyed.  The Hilton Brown Metallic over Light Beige is one of the most rare, handsome, and desirable color combinations available in 1979.  It is also the original color scheme as indicated by the trim tag pictured below.  The low mileage is verified by not only the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, stating the mileage as "actual."  Please peruse all of the photos and the list of numbers below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and original this Corvette really is.

"The Corvette evolution continues" proclaimed the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog.  A new "open flow" muffler design increased the horsepower on the L82 engines by 5hp.  All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car.  A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area.  1979 was also the last year to feature bumpers without integrated spoilers.  Some enthusiasts prefer the simple lines and cleaner look of this body style over the 1980-82 Corvette.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z8749S415695 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 4, correct for an L82 car.  The sixth digit, "9," indicates the model year, 1979.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 15,695th Corvette made in 1979.
Body Build Date E14 "E" corresponds to December, and the 14 is the fourteenth day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is December 14, 1978.
Engine Code V1212 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The first "12" is the twelvth month of year and the second "12" is the twelvth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on December 12, 1978.
Suffix Code ZBB This means the motor was intended for an L82 with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 415695 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 415695, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date L 9 8 "L" is December, "9" is the ninth day of the month, and "8" is 1978 so the engine block was cast on December 9, 1978.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14007378 The aluminum intake manifold is correct with a 14007378 casting number.
Distributor 1103291 The distributor is correct with 1103291 stamped on the housing.
Distributor Date Code 8 L 16 The "8" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "L" denotes November, and "16" is the sixteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on November 16, 1978.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Carburetor Main Body

17059228

The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L82 Corvette.  The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run.  The fifth digit,  "9," means it was built for the 1979 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "2," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "8," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 3128 The first three digits, "312" indicate the 312th day of the year.  The last digit, "8" is the year it was produced, 1978.  So the carb  was stamped on November 8, 1978.
Alternator 1102908 The alternator is correct with 1102908 stamped on the housing.
Alternator Date Code 8 L 16 The "8" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "L" denotes November, and "16" is the sixteenth day of the month meaning the alternator was made on November 16, 1978.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Transmission Casting Number 8640820 The transmission has the correct casting number for a TH350.
Transmission Casting Date 10-78 The main case of the transmission was cast in October of 1978.
Windshield CJ "C" is November and "J" is 1978 so this window is original, made in November of 1978.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver Window YJ "Y" is October and "J" is 1978 so this window is original, made in October of 1978.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window YJ "Y" is October and "J" is 1978 so this window is original, made in October of 1978.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

title history

I have completed a title history search on this Corvette through the state of Ohio.  Please note that every new entry is not necessary a new owner of the car.  The search shows the mileage have always been actual actual with small consistent increases like you would want to see starting form the first records about 20 years ago when the car had 28,901 miles.  The results also show that Seven Hills Motorcars, Inc is the current owner of this Corvette and the mileage is still actual.

condition

Exterior

The Dark Brown Metallic exterior is in good driver condition.  As one can see in the photos the finish has nice gloss and smooth finish.  Often many corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not.  There are no major scratches, scrapes, or other imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos.  There are small blemishes around the car that were too small to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about ten feet away.  The right headlight bucket sits a little low and could benefit from some adjustment.  The wheels are in great condition with a nice finish and no curb rash.  The tires are look new with about 90% tread left.

Window Date Codes

Please note that all of glass on this car is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of December 21, 1979 (E14). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Light Beige interior of the Corvette is in fantastic condition.  The seats look literally brand new with no rips, splits seams, or signs of excessive wear.  They are not worn in the typical areas such as where the driver gets in and out.  The carpet is in good shape with no rips, tears, or holes.  This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected.  The door panels are in great shape and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door.  The remote for the left sport mirror is missing its stalk, which is visible in the photos.  The dash and console are in nice condition with no cracks, fading, or sun damage.  This car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma whatsoever.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in fine mechanical condition and it is a great driver.  There is no smoke when starting or driving the car.  The transmission shifts smoothly.  All of the interior and exterior lights work and the headlights pop up with no binding.  The pull down vacuum switch for the headlights works as well.  The car drives terrifically; it is very tight on the road and at highway speeds.  It was recently serviced with all new shocks.  The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other.  Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos.  All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock.  The blower works on all speeds.  The only item that I am aware of that does not work on the car is the a/c.  The car will occasionally make a clicking noise from the parking brake and the fan shroud will sometimes make some noise.  This Corvette has plenty of power and is very fast with the high performance L82.  Please note that this car has not been molested and the catalytic converter and smog system are still in place.  Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the t-tops out on a nice day.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1979 L82 Corvette is in terrific condition.  Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with high performance options like the L82.  The originality, low original mileage, the rare and desirable color combination, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate.  This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road.   It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners.  The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past several years.  They are secure and wise investments for a collector.  One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
