vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this completely numbers matching 1979 L82 Corvette in absolutely spectacular condition with the 4-Speed close ratio manual transmission and only 36,405 original miles. It is difficult to convey in words and photos have truly great this car really is. It is exceptionally rare to find an L82 model with a manual transmission, let alone an example with such low miles and in such amazing original condition. This car is by far one of the nicest 1979 Corvettes on the market and truly an investment grade C3. The car looks beautiful, runs great, and drives awesome. Virtually everything on the car works including the a/c; even the clock and very detailed items like the glove box light work. The C3 Corvettes been steadily increasing in value for the past few years and is an excellent investment. This Corvette would be an excellent candidate for a Survivor or Bloomington Gold award.

The car in finished in the beautiful and highly desirable color combination of Frost Blue (28) over Dark Blue Leather (292). This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag. Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and excellent this Corvette really is.

This Corvette is totally loaded and was ordered new with basically every highly desirable option available in 1979. Besides the high horsepower L82 engine, this Corvettes has a "close ratio" 4-Speed manual transmission, Gymkhana high performance suspension, and factory "D80" spoilers on the front and rear. It also features side pipes which give the car a great look and amazing sound with a true dual exhaust.

This Corvette is completely "Numbers Matching" and literally every part we checked on the car is correct with the proper part numbers and appropriate date codes. We have run the numbers on hundreds of Corvettes and there are very few that are so correct and original. Even very detailed parts like the starter, alternator, and even the date codes on all the windows are correct. The last six digits of the VIN are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below, and the engine is original to the car. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below. This Corvette is verified as an original and correct L82 model by the fifth digit of the VIN. This car has an "4" in the fifth digit indicating it is an L82 while a base L48 has an "8" in that spot.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The Corvette evolution continues" announced the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog. The L48 engine received the dual-snorkel air intake introduced in 1978 for the optional L82 V-8, which added 10 horsepower. All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area..

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

condition

Exterior

The Frost Blue exterior is in gorgeous driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth glass-like finish. Both doors open and shut nicely and fit well, as do the hood and headlights. Both bumpers have not shrunken and also fit well to the car. Often many Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not, which is especially important on this car with the very low factory D80 spoiler. The underside of the front end, which is a very fragile and venerable area of the car, is in good condition as evidenced by the photos. The N90 aluminum wheels are in great condition with no curb rash. The tires are literally brand new with less than 10 miles on them and are correctly sized 225/70R15. There are no major scratches, scrapes, or other imperfections that have been excluded from the photos. As one would be expect with any paintjob that has this many years on it there may be some very small blemishes that are too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. This Corvette has absolutely NO rust issues. As one can see in the many photos of the underside this Corvette is very clean underneath. We have included specific photos of the areas on the frame most prone to rust to show how clean it is.

Window Date Codes

Please ALL of the glass on this car is original, the side glass, rear window, and even the windshield on this car is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of the fourth week in June 18, 1979 (K18). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no accident history and never sustained damage.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Dark Blue Leather interior of the Corvette is in amazing condition. The seats look just in person as they do in the photos with no split seams, tears, or excessive wear. Please note that these are the original seats, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the gauge lenses are crystal clear. The carpet is also in great condition with no stains, rips, or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The carpet on the door panels is in good shape and not faded. All of the carpet in the car is also original. The door panels themselves are in good condition, fit well to the doors, and the door pulls are in tact. The dash and center console look good with no splits, sun fading, or cracks. The jack and jack handle are still present and stowed correctly behind the passenger seat and pictured below. The original spare tire and rim are still with the car and has never been used. This Corvette has never been smoked in, there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes at all. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the spectacular condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This L82 Corvette seems to be in excellent mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. The car drives terrifically; it is feels awesome on the road and at highway speeds. The car drives just like you would expect from a vehicle with only 36,000 miles. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The close ratio transmission shifts well, the shifter feels tight, and does not pop out of gear. The clutch feels good and operates smoothly. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast with the L82. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, correct, and original as one can see in the photos.

The horn works as do all the exterior lights, wipers, power windows, and the blower for the heater and a/c on all speeds. The a/c works and blows cold, one can observe the a/c compressor clicking on and engaging properly in the video. All of the gauges work including the clock. Please note very detailed items that most buyers do not even know to look for are functional on this Corvette such as the interior delay light timer, the small light by the spare tire, and even the glove box light all still work. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no binding. Also, the headlights go up correctly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation from both switches can be observed in the video below. This Corvette features sidepipes so the car now has a true dual exhaust system with no catalytic converter and a very healthy exhaust note as one can hear in the video. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with close ratio 4-Speed transmission, the extra power from the L82 engine, and the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drivers as well as it looks.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1979 Corvette L82 4-speed is in amazing condition. This car is particularly rare and extra desirable with the high horsepower L82 engine, close ratio 4-speed transmission, Gymkhana high performance suspension, and other great options. Low mileage and original examples of C3 Corvettes are hard to find and draw a huge premium in the current market. Numbers matching and originality is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see this car is very original and correct.

The excellent condition, the beautiful color, the very low original mileage, the desirable options, the originality, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years, especially for premium examples like this car. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
