vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this numbers matching 1979 Corvette in beautiful condition with only 23,170 original miles. This Corvette looks great, runs well, and is an awesome driver. Everything on the car works including the a/c. The car is totally solid with no rust issues and straight lines. The Corvette Red over Oyster Leather color combination is iconic and highly desirable for a Corvette. It is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, which is pictured below. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual." We have also included a copy of the Ohio title search we preformed on this car, which also verifies the mileage. Please peruse all of the photos, list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The Corvette evolution continues" announced the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog. The L48 engine received the dual-snorkel air intake introduced in 1978 for the optional L82 V-8, which added 10 horsepower. All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z8789S428584 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "9," indicates the model year, 1979.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 28,584th Corvette made for 1979.
Body Build Date H23 "H" corresponds to March, and "23" is the twenty-third day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is March 23 1979.
Engine Code V0308 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "03" is the third month of year and the "08" is the eighth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on March 8, 1979.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code ZAH This means the motor was intended for an L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 428584 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 428584, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number, which is correct for a 1979 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date C 5 9 "C" is March, "5" is the fifth day of the month, and "9" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on March 5,1979.
Distributor 1103302 The distributor is original and correct for an L48 that has a/c and automatic transmission with a 1103302 stamping. Please note that this distributor was only used on Corvettes with the ZAH suffix code, which this car has.
Distributor Date Code 9 B 20 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "B" denotes February, and "20" is the twentieth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on February 20, 1979. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14007376 The intake manifold has the correct 14007376 casting number.
Intake Manifold Casting Date A 27 9 "A" is January, "27" is the twenty-seventh day of the month, and "9" is the last digit of the calendar year so the intake manifold was cast on January 27, 1979.
Carburetor Main Body 17059216 The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 1979 L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission and a/c. The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run. The fifth digit, "9," means it was built for the 1979 model year. The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit, "1," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "6," means it was intended for use in an automatic transmission car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 0619 The firth three digits, "061," indicate the 61st  day of the year. The last digit, "9," is the year in which the carburetor was produced, 1979.  So this carburetor was stamped on March 2, 1979.
Transmission Date Code B9C13D The "B" means the transmission as build in the Parma plant. The "9" is the year, 1979. The "C" is the third month of the year and the "13" is the thirteenth day of the month. The "D" is the shift in which the transmission was made. This would mean the transmission was made during the day shift in Parma on March 13, 1979..
Transmission VIN Stamp 428584 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 428584, are stamped on the main case of the transmission and pictured below meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Alternator 1102908 The alternator is original and correct for a Corvette that has a/c with a 1102908 stamping.
Alternator Date Code 9 C 15 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "C" denotes March, and "15" is the fifteenth day of the month meaning the Alternator was made on March 15, 1979.
Windshield XA "X" is February and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in February of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver's Window XA "X" is February and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in February of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window LA "L" is March and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in March of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear  Window XA "X" is February and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in February of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Corvette Red exterior is in stunning condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The paint on this car still looks fresh and very nice. Both door open and shut nicely as do the hood and headlights. The N90 aluminum wheels and center caps are in good condition with a nice finish and no curb rash. The tires appear to have about 90%tread left and are correctly sized 255/60R15. Often Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, this Corvette has NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette, both side windows, the rear window, and even the windshield are all date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of March 23, 1979 (H23). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Oyster interior in this Corvette is in great original condition. The seats look just in person as they do in the photos with some natural signs of use in the typical area where the driver gets in and out and one split seam on the passenger seat, there is a specific photo of the area below to show how unnoticeable this is. Please note that these are the original seats and leather skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet is in great condition with no major stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected. The console and dash are in great condition with no cracks or sun damage. The door panels are in good shape overall and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The original stereo radio sounds good and most importantly the dash is original and has never been cut or modified for any aftermarket installation. The lower left a/c vent is a little loose in its housing. The jack and jack handle are still present with the car and stowed correctly behind the passenger seat, pictured below showing the original stickers on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car and still has the nubs on it. This Corvette has never been smoked in, there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well, especially a light color like Oyster, and the nice condition of this mostly original interior is a huge testament to the care this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in great mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time and runs well. It drives nice and feels good on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, wipers, power windows, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), the blower on all speeds, and even the a/c. One can observe the a/c compressor engaging properly and turning on in the video below. The entire vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no effort or binding in the mechanism. Also, the headlights go up correctly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation from both switches can be observed in the video below. This Corvette has a true dual exhaust system wit no catalytic converter and a healthy exhaust note. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drives just as great as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1979 Corvette is in great driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with low mileage examples like this car. The originality, the great condition, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
