about the dealership
Seven Hills Motorcars is Cincinnati's premier Corvette specialist and a licensed and registered auto dealer by the State of Ohio.  With many years of focused experience I specialize in 1963 to 1982 Corvettes.  There is no other dealership that can better meet your needs if you would like to buy, sell, or just find out more information about your Corvette.  This is simply a one man operation, and this is not my full time employment.  I do it because I enjoy it.  I am a collector and enthusiast and therefore look for cars that excite me.  I do not purchase at dealer auctions; each car is hand picked by me because it is special or rare to me and because I like it.

vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this very low mileage and numbers matching 1979 Corvette in beautiful original condition.  This car looks and drives awesome, needs nothing, and is ready to be driven and enjoyed.  The previous owner had the car since 1991 and said he was only the second owner.  The low mileage is verified by not only the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, stating the mileage as "actual."  Please peruse all of the photos and the list of numbers below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and original this Corvette really is.

"The Corvette evolution continues" proclaimed the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog.  All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car.  A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area.  1979 was also the last year to feature bumpers without integrated spoilers.  Some enthusiasts prefer the simple lines and cleaner look of this body style over the 1980-82 Corvette.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

item number description*
VIN 1Z8789S413199 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "9," indicates the model year, 1979.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 13,199th Corvette made in 1979.
Body Build Date D29 "D" corresponds to November, and the 29 is the twenty-ninth day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is November 29, 1978.
Engine Code V1120 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "11" is the eleventh month of year and the "20" is the twenty day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on November 20, 1978.
Suffix Code ZAH This means the motor was intended for an L48 with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 413199 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 413199, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date K 9 8 "K" is November, "9" is the ninth day of the month, and "8" is 1978 so the engine block was cast on November 9, 1978.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14007376 The intake manifold is correct with a 14007376 casting number.
Distributor 1113302 The distributor is correct with 1113302 stamped on the housing.
Distributor Date Code 7 K 19 The "7" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "K" denotes October, and "19" is the nineteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on October 19, 1977.
Carburetor Main Body

17059216

The carburetor has the correct stamping for a 1979 model year 350ci L48 Corvette.  The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run.  The fifth digit,  "9," means it was built for the 1979 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "1," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "6," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 3248 The first three digits, "324" indicate the 324th day of the year.  The last digit, "8" is the year it was produced, 1978.  So the carb  was stamped on November 20, 1978.
Windshield CJ "C" is November and "J" is 1978 so this window is original, made in November of 1978.
Driver's  Window YJ "Y" is October and "J" is 1978 so this window is original, made in October of 1978.
Passenger  Window YJ "Y" is October and "J" is 1978 so this window is original, made in October of 1978.
Rear  Window CJ "C" is November and "J" is 1978 so this window is original, made in November of 1978.

condition

Exterior

The Classic White exterior is in beautiful driver condition for being original.  Please note that this car has never been repainted and the looks to have almost all original paint.  Even the bumpers are original and untouched, which is extraordinarily hard to find, especially in this nice condition.  These cars have very long front ends that people almost always bumped into things.  This car has survived 32 years without hitting anything.  As one can see in the photos the finish has nice gloss and smooth finish.  Often Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not.  There are no major imperfections that have been excluded from the photos.  There are some scratches, nicks, and other blemishes that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from ten feet away.  The car came equipped with aluminum wheels, which are in awesome condition with an nice finish and no rust issues.  This Corvette has absolutely NO rust issues.  The frame and everything else on the car is totally solid.

Please note that all of the glass on this Corvette is date coded and original to the car as it predates the build date of November 29, 1978.  Original glass is a good indication that the car has not been in a major accident and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Red interior of the Corvette is in magnificent condition.  The seats look literally brand new with no rips, tears, or split seams.  They are not worn in the typical areas such as where the driver gets in and out.  The carpet is in nice condition as well with no stains, rips, or holes This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected.  The console is in great condition and fits correctly, as it should with a car of this mileage.  The door panels are in great shape with no splits and unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door.  The dash is not cracked or sun faded at all.  The original pedal pads are not excessively worn, and as one can see from the pictures, show normal wear for a car with this mileage.  Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life and another great verification of the low original mileage.  The T-top bags are also included with the car.

Mechanical

This Corvette is in great mechanical condition; it has no issues and is a great driver.  The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well.   The car drives terrifically; it is tight on the road and at highway speeds.  The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other.  All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock.  All of the interior and exterior lights work.  The headlights pop up with no binding.  The pull down vacuum switch for the headlights works as well.  The only item that I am aware of that does not work on the car is the a/c, which most likely needs to be recharged.  This is a minor concern that does no affect drivability and that most dealers would not disclose.  This Corvette has plenty of power and is very fast with what feels like a very low rear end gear.  Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the t-tops out on a nice day.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1979 Corvette is in terrific condition and remarkably original.  Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing.  The originality, the gorgeous condition, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate.   This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road.   It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners.  The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past several years.  They are secure and wise investments for a collector.  One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
