about the dealership
Seven Hills Motorcars is Cincinnati's premier Corvette specialist and a licensed and registered auto dealer by the State of Ohio.  With many years of focused experience I specialize in 1957 to 1982 Corvettes.  There is no other dealership that can better meet your needs if you would like to buy, sell, or just find out more information about your Corvette.  This is simply a one man operation, and this is not my full time employment.  I do it because I enjoy it.  I am a collector and enthusiast and therefore look for cars that excite me.  I do not purchase at dealer auctions; each car is hand picked by me because it is special or rare to me and because I like it.

vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this low mileage and completely numbers matching 1979 Corvette in spectacular condition with just under 42,000 original miles.  This car looks and drives awesome, needs nothing, and is ready to be driven and enjoyed.  It is essentially 100% "turn key."

This car has a very rare and desirable color combination of Corvette Yellow over Black Leather.  This is the correct and original color scheme, verified by the trim tag pictured below, which is especially important on this car because yellow was the most rare color in 1979 with the lowest production.  The low mileage is supported by not only the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "actual."  This Corvette is an exceptional driver and I wouldn't hesitate to hop in and take a road trip.  Please peruse all of the photos and numbers below to get a true sense of how clean and correct this Corvette really is.

"The Corvette evolution continues" announced the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog.  The L48 engine received the dual-snorkel air intake introduced in 1978 for the optional L82 V-8, which added 10 horsepower.  All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car.  A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z8789S450731 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "9," indicates the model year, 1979.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 50,731st Corvette made for 1979.
Body Build Date N05 "N" corresponds to September, and the 05 is the fifth day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is September 5, 1979
Engine Code V0807 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "08" is the eighth month of year and the "07" is the seventh day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on August 7, 1979.
Suffix Code ZAH This means the motor was intended for an L48 with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 450731 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 450731, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 14016379 The engine block has the correct 14016379 casting number for a late production 1979.
Engine Block Casting Date G 28 9 "G" is July, "28" is the twenty-eighth day of the month, and "9" is 1979 so the engine block was cast on July 28, 1979.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Distributor 1103302 The distributor is original and correct with 1103302 stamped on the housing,
Distributor Date Code 9D16 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "D" denotes April, and "16" is the sixteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on April 16, 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14014433 The intake manifold is correct for a late production L48 with a 14014433 casting number.
Carburetor Main Body 17059216 The carburetor has the correct stamping for a 1979 L48 Corvette.  The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built for 1976-79 production.  The fifth digit,  "9," means it was built for the 1979 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "1," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "6," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 2349 The first three digits, "234" indicate the 234th day of the year.  The last digit, "9" is the year it was produced, 1979.  So the carburetor  was stamped around August 22, 1979.
Starter 1998217 The starter has the correct stamping, 1998217, for a late production 1979 Corvette with an automatic transmission.
Alternator 1102908 The alternator has the correct stamping, 1102908, for a 63 amp unit for a1979 Corvette with air conditioning.
Alternator Date Code 9D2 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "D" denotes April, and "2" is the second day of the month meaning the alternator was made on April 2, 1979.
Driver's Window UA "U" is July and "A" is 1979 so this window was made in July of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window TA "T" is August and "A" is 1979 so this window was made in August of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear  Window TA "T" is August and "A" is 1979 so this window was made in August of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The yellow exterior is in beautiful driver condition.  As one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, smooth finish, and deep shine.  Often many Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not.  The underside of the front end, a very fragile part of the car, is in great condition as evidenced by the photos.  This Corvette came equipped with aluminum wheels, which are in excellent condition with a brilliant finish and absolutely no curb rash.  There are no major imperfections that have been excluded from the photos.  There are some small spots and blemishes that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from five feet away.  The tires are literally brand new with less than 100 miles.  The glass t-tops have no cracks at all.  This Corvette has absolutely NO rust issues.  The frame is totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Please note that the side glass on this Corvette is date coded and original to the car as each piece predates the build date of September 5, 1979.  Original glass is a good indication that the car has not been in a major accident and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Black interior of the Corvette looks utterly brilliant.  It is in near concourse quality condition.  The seats look literally brand new with no rips, tears, or split seams.  They are not worn in the typical areas such as where the driver gets in and out.  The carpet is in excellent condition as well with no stains, rips, or holes This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected.  The console is in great condition and fits correctly.  The door panels are in great shape and unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door.  The dash is not cracked or sun faded at all.  This car has not been smoked in; there are no burn marks or aroma whatsoever.  Please note that detail items, such as the pulls for the rear compartment doors, have not been pulled off on this car.  The original pedal pads are not excessively worn and, as one can see from the pictures, show normal wear for a car with this mileage.  Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This car is in awesome mechanical condition, it has no issues and is an exceptional driver.  Even the a/c, cruise control, and power locks all work; some of the most common issues on this vintage Corvette.  The car drives terrifically.  It is tight on the road and at highway speeds.  The transmission shifts smoothly.  The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other.  The car starts right away every time and runs well.  There is no smoke when starting or driving the car.  This Corvette has plenty of power and it is very fast.  The horn works as do the headlights, headlight override vacuum switch, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), all interior and exterior lights, power windows, and wipers. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with t-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall
Condition

Overall this Corvette is in magnificent condition.  It is truly one of the nicest 1979 Corvettes we have encountered recently and we have it priced to sell.  Numbers matching and originality are extremely important in Corvette pricing, and as you can see this car very original and correct.  In addition, this car is also optioned with a very rare and desirable color combination.  The value of the late C3 body style cars has gone up dramatically in the past few years.  They are all solid investments for a collector.  Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future.  Someone could drive and enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price.
