vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this completely numbers matching 1980 Corvette in terrific driver condition with only 50,160 actual miles. It is loaded with highly desirable options such as, N90 aluminum wheels, power windows, air conditioning, sport mirrors, interior delay light timer which actually still works, and the beautiful color scheme. The Dark Blue Metallic over Oyster Leather is one of the most attractive and desirable color combinations available for 1980. It is also the original color scheme as indicated by the trim tag pictured below. The low mileage is verified by not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and original this Corvette really is.

The 1980 Corvette was lighter than the previous year and featured new bumper caps, cleaner lines, and integrated spoilers. The body style was highly modernized in 1980 by these changes. The vehicle also become much more aerodynamic with these changes, with a drag coefficient .503 in 1979 to .443. 1980 was the last year for the much more desirable fully mechanical fuel and ignition systems. 1981 went to the "computer command control" system, which is much more prone to issues.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z878AS429723 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 29,723rd Corvette made for 1980.
Body Build Date H16 "H" corresponds to May, and the 16 is the sixteenth day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is May 16, 1980.
Engine Code V0505 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The first "05" is the fifth month of year and the second "05" is the fifth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on May 5, 1980.
Suffix Code ZAK This means the motor was intended for an L48 with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 429723 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 429723, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 14010207 The engine block has the correct 14010207 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date D 24 0 "D" is April, "24" is the twenty-fourth day of the month, and "0" is 1980 so the engine block was cast on April 24, 1980, which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14013322 The aluminum intake manifold is correct with a 14013322 casting number.
Distributor 1103353 The distributor is correct with 1103353 stamped on the housing.
Distributor Date Code 0 D 24 The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "D" denotes April, and "24" is the twenty-fourth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on April 24, 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Carburetor Main Body

17080204

The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L48 Corvette.  The fourth digit, "8," means the carb was built for 1980's production.  The fifth digit,  "0," means it was built for the 1980 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "4," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 1010 The first three digits, "101" indicate the 101st day of the year.  The last digit, "0" is the year it was produced, 1980.  So the carb  was stamped on April 10, 1980.
Starter 1998217 The starter is correct for an early production 1980 Corvette and with an automatic transmission with 1998217 stamped on the housing.
Starter Date Code 9 E 5 The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "E" denotes May, and "5" is the fifth day of the month meaning the starter was made on May 5, 1980.
Alternator 1103122 The alternator is correct for a 1980 Corvette with 1103122 stamped on the housing.
Windshield GZ "G" is April and "Z" is 1980 so the windshield was made in April of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver Window LZ "L" is March and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in March of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window XZ "X" is February and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in February of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear  Window XZ "X" is February and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in February of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Dark blue metallic exterior is in very nice driver condition. This Corvette was painted approximately 5 years ago and still shins up nicely today. The paint has a deep shine, smooth finish, and wonderful gloss. The doors open and shut very well and with little effort. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There may be some small blemishes around the car that were to small or faint to be picked up by the camera, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. This Corvette has no rust issues. As one can see in the many photos of the underside the frame is totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most common areas for rust on this era Corvette. The wheels are in great condition with no curb rash and a brilliant finish. The tires are newer with approximately 90% tread left and are sized 255/60R15.

Window Date Codes

Please note that all of glass on this car is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of May 16 19 (H16). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Oyster leather interior of the Corvette is in good driver condition. The seats look good with no excessive wear. The carpet is in great original condition with no major stains. This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected. There are a couple spots of wear in the foot well, but as one can see in the photos they are not very noticeable. The door panels are in very nice shape with no major splits or tears and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. This car has no aroma of cigarettes whatsoever. The original cassette radio is still in this Corvette, but is currently not working. There is some rattling from the tape player, but most importantly the original dash has not been cut or modified for an aftermarket radio. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the nice condition of this mostly original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life. Even very detailed items that most buyers are not even aware of, such as the interior delay light timer and courtesy light by the spare tire, and the fasten seat belt buzzer are functional on this Corvette. Silver T-Top bags are pictured below and included with the car.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. The way this car runs and drives are some of its strongest points. It is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph and then braking to a stop. Please note that there are no strange noises, vibrations, and the car performs quite well. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast and the catalytic converter has been removed. It starts right away every time and runs great. The transmission shifts well throughout the power band. The brakes do not pull to one side of the other. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), wipers, blower for the heater and a/c, and power windows. The a/c does not work, the system is totally complete, there is a belt on the compressor, and the compressor is not locked up so the system most likely needs to be recharged. Like any older classic car with low actual miles this Corvette could benefit from some maintenance and carb adjustments to smooth out the idle. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1980 Corvette is in terrific driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with a low mileage car like this. The originality, the rare and desirable color combination, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
