vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this numbers matching 1980 Corvette in spectacular condition and with only 30,850 original miles. This Corvette looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with nice lines and no rust issues. The Dark Brown Metallic over Doeskin Leather is one of the most striking and handsome color combinations available and looks great on the car. It is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, which is pictured below. Dark Brown Metallic is also a very rare color for 1980. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on the 1980 and 1981 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual" as well as the documentation and records that come with the car. Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

This Corvette comes with a good amount of records and documentation that is especially important because it helps support the very low original mileage. Included with the car is an odometer disclosure statement from August of 1994 showing the car had 20,865 miles at the time and that the mileage was actual. There is a copy of an old title from the 1995 also showing actual mileage. In addition to the records there is some additional documentation such as a copy of the the original application for title from September of 1980, the original owners manual, owners manual envelope, and 1980 GM maintenance schedule booklet, all pictued below.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

VIN 1Z878AS436392 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car. The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 36,392nd Corvette made for 1980.

Engine Block Casting Date F 12 0 "F" is June, "12" is the twelvth day of the month, and the "0" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on June 12, 1980, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14014432 The intake manifold has the correct 14014432 casting number, which was only used in 1980.

condition

Exterior

The Dark Brown Metallic exterior is in fantastic driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both door open and shut nicely as do the hood and headlights. The N90 aluminum wheels and center caps are in beautiful condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The tires have about 90% tread let and are correctly sized 225/70R15. There are a few small touch-ups on the front bumper and tiny blemishes around car that were too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Doeskin Leather interior in this Corvette is in spectacular original condition. The seats are in excellent condition with no rips, split seams, or excessive wear. They are not worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats and skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet is good original condition with no major stains. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. There is one small area on the passenger foot well, but as you can tell in the photos it is hardly noticeable and covered by the mat. The door panels are in wonderful shape with no splits or cracks and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The jack and jack handle are still with the car, stored correctly behind the passenger seat, and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, especially a light color like Doeskin, and the excellent condition of this almost all original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in excellent mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idle smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, correct and complete as one can see in the photos. Even the ignition shielding, smog pump, and original catalytic converter are still in place.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, horn, wipers, power windows, and all of the gauges with the obvious exception of the clock. The blower works on all speeds. The power antenna works, which is a very common problems on this era Corvette. The a/c also works and blows cold. One can observe the a/c compressor engaging properly in the video. The power locks work from the passenger side, but not the driver's side. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. There complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1980 Corvette is in magnificent driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with low mileage examples like this car, and as any buyer can see this Corvette is extremely correct. The originality, the beautiful original color combination, the spectacular paint and overall condition, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
