vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this GM executive ordered and completely numbers matching 1980 L82 Corvette in impeccable condition and with only 67,380 original miles. This Corvette looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with nice lines and is exceptionally clean top to bottom. The underside of this car is nearly as clean as the top. The Silver Metallic over Oyster Leather is one of the most striking and desirable color combinations available and looks great on the car. It is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag and the original build sheet, which are pictured below. Literally every part, number, and date we checked on this Corvette came back correct.

Besides the beautiful color combination, the car is loaded with desirable options such as the high performance L82 engine and factory CB radio. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on the 1980 and 1981 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

We purchased this L82 Corvette in a package deal along with a 1978 WS6 Trans Am from a collector. He said that he was the second owner and that the first owner was a GM executive from Detroit who ordered the car new. It also comes with a great amount of original documentation. That is particularly important for this Corvette since it verifies all of the rare and original options. Included with the car is the original build sheet, which is very rare for a Corvette, a copy of the window sticker, the original owners manual, visor information sheet, and two sets of keys, all pictured below.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z876AS419207 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, 6, correct for an L82 car. The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 19,207th Corvette made for 1980.
Body Build Date E22 "E" corresponds to February, and "22" is the twenty-second day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is February 22, 1980.
Engine Code V0215 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "02" is the second month of year and the "15" is the fifteenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on February 15, 1980.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code ZBC This means the motor was intended for an L82 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 419207 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 419207, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 10410207 The engine block has the correct 10410207 casting number, which is correct for a 1981 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date B 12 0 "B" is February, "12" is the twelfth day of the month, and the "0" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on February 12, 1980, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14014432 The aluminum intake manifold has the correct 14014432 casting number, which was only used in 1980.
Distributor 1103435 The distributor is original and correct for a Corvette with the L82 engine and an automatic transmission with a 1103435 stamping.
Distributor Date Code 9 K 19 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "K" denotes October, and "19" is the nineteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on October 4, 1980. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Alternator 1101075 The 70 Amp alternator is original and correct for a Corvette with a rear window defogger with a 1101075 stamping.
Alternator Date Code 2 14 0 The "2" is the second month of the year. The "14" is the fourteenth day of the month. The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year meaning the alternator was made on February 14, 1980.
Carburetor 17080228 This is the correct carburetor for a 1980 L82 Corvette. The "170" means the carb was produced after 1976. The fourth digit, "8," means the carb was built in the 1980's. The fifth digit, "0," means it was built for the 1980 model year. The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit, "2," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "8," means it was intended for use in an automatic transmission car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 2769 The date code for the 1980 model year starts with the first day of 1979 so "276" is the 276th day staring from January 1, 1979. The "9" is the year in which it was made so this carburetor was made on October 2, 1979.
Starter 1998217 The starter is correct with a 1998217 stamping on the housing.
Starter Date Code 0 A 21 The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "A" denotes January, and "21" is the twenty-first day of the month meaning the starter was made on January 21, 1980.
Windshield NZ The "N" is January and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in January of 1980. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car
Driver's Window VA The "V" is December and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in December of 1979. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car
Passenger Window VA The "V" is December and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in December of 1979. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car
Rear Window VA The "V" is December and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in December of 1979. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car

condition

Exterior

The Silver Metallic exterior is in fantastic driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely. The N90 aluminum wheels and center caps are in beautiful condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The Goodyear Eagle white letter tires have about 90% tread let and are sized 255/60R15. There are a few small touch-ups and tiny blemishes around car that were too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame and underside is literally one of the cleanest we have seen. We recently sold a 1980 L82 Corvette with 3,447 original miles and it did not look as clean underneath as this car. Everything is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette. Please note how even in the wheel wells that are pictured how clean it looks, you can even still see the yellow chalk markings.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL the glass on this Corvette, the door glass, rear window, and even the windshield are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of February 22, 1980. Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Oyster Leather interior in this Corvette is in spectacular original condition. The seats are in excellent shape with no rips, split seams, or excessive wear. They are not worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats and skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet is good original condition with no stains, tears, or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The door panels are in wonderful shape with no splits or cracks and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The jack and jack handle are still with the car, stored correctly behind the passenger seat, and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car and has never been used. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes at all. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, especially a light color like Oyster, and the excellent condition of this original interior is another testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in great mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time and runs well. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, correct, and complete as one can see in the photos. Even the ignition shielding, smog pump, and original catalytic converter are still in place. There are correct finishes and markings on the parts in the engine bay. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast with the L82 engine.

The original CB radio works as do all the exterior lights, horn, wipers, power windows, indicators, and all of the gauges with the obvious exception of the clock. The blower works on all speeds. The a/c also works and blows cold. One can observe the a/c compressor engaging properly in the video. The power locks work on both sides. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. There complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. Like many older carbureted cars it is a bit cold blooded. The power antenna works, which is a very common problem on this era Corvette. The working power antenna on this Corvette is particularly significant since the antenna is special and different on a factory CB radio Corvette and the CB antennas are nearly impossible to find. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1980 L82 Corvette is in magnificent condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with low mileage and highly optioned examples like this L82, and as any buyer can see this Corvette is extremely correct. The originality, the great history and story, the beautiful original color combination, the spectacular paint and overall condition, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
