vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is extremely proud to offer this amazing 1980 L82 Corvette in stunning condition inside and out with only 3,447 original miles. This is by far one of the nicest and lowest mileage late C3 Corvettes on the market and truly an investment grade classic; it would be a very good candidate for NCRS or Bloomington judging. We purchased the car from the original owner who bought the car brand new in 1980, the unbroken ownership history is another great confirmation of the original mileage. He ordered the car with virtually every option available for a 1980 Corvette. This car is loaded with highly desirable options such as the L82 high horsepower engine, high performance Gymkhana Suspension, N90 aluminum wheels, CC1 glass T-tops, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power antenna, and the beautiful color scheme. All of these highly desirable options are confirmed correct by the original window sticker pictured below. Every option on the car works including the cruise control, power locks, power antenna, and a/c. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on 1980 and 1981 Corvettes is hot right now, and this low mileage example is impossible to duplicate. This Corvette was always stored indoors and has been lovingly cared for its entire life. The low original mileage is verified by not only by the condition of the car, but also the one owner history and the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and original this Corvette really is.

As stated above, we purchased this Corvette from the original owner. Thankfully, he kept much of the original paperwork and documentation from when he bought the car new at Dan Pearcy Chevrolet in Mitchel, IN. Included with the sale is the original window sticker, owners manual, warranty information book (dated 7-28-1980), all of the warranty work stickers with the vin, tire pamphlet, consumer information booklet, and even the mirror and T-Top information cards that went over the visors when the car was on the showroom floor back in 1980. We also received the original title from 1980 with the car. We obviously had to turn it in to the BMV when we transferred ownership to Seven Hills Motorcars, but we made high quality color copies of the original Indiana title from 1980 prior to the transfer and they are pictured below. Please note that the previous owner's name appears on the original title, on the warranty booklet as the original owner, and on the current Ohio title as the previous owner. Simply put, this a very well documented and legit low mile 1980 L82 Corvette.

This Corvette is completely numbers matching, literally every part we could check on the car came back with the correct number and date. This includes all stampings, casting dates, and even items like alternator, starters, and all of the glass. Some of the most important stampings, like the VIN stamps on the engine block and transmission, are pictured below. Please note that on the underside some the original chalk markings that were put on the car as it went down the assembly line are still present. One is pictured below next to the "ZBC" suffix code that is ink stamped on the side of the block.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1980 Corvette was lighter than the previous year and featured new bumper caps, cleaner lines, and integrated spoilers. The body style was highly modernized in 1980 by these changes. The vehicle also become much more aerodynamic with these changes, with a drag coefficient .503 in 1979 to .443. 1980 was the last year for the much more desirable fully mechanical fuel and ignition systems. 1981 went to the "computer command control" system, which is much more prone to issues.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z876AS437069 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 6, correct for an L82 Corvette.  The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 37,069th Corvette made for 1980.
Body Build Date J23 "J" corresponds to July, and "23" is the twenty-third day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is July 23 1980.
Engine Code V0703 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "07" is the seventh month of year and the "03" is the third day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on July 3, 1980.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code ZBC This means the motor was intended for an L82 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 437069 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 437069, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 14010207 The engine block has the correct 14010207 casting number, which is correct for a 1980 L82 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date E 29 0 "E" is May, "29" is the twenty-ninth day of the month, and "0" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on May 29,1980.
Distributor 1103435 The distributor is original and correct for an L82 that has an automatic transmission with a 1103435 stamping.
Distributor Date Code 0 E 12 The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "E" denotes May, and "12" is the twelfth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on May 12, 1980. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14014432 The intake manifold has the correct 14014432 casting number for a 1980 L82 Corvette.
Carburetor Main Body 17080228 The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 1980 L82 Corvette with an automatic transmission. The fourth digit, "8," means the carb was built for 1980's production. The fifth digit, "0," means it was built for the 1980 model year. The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit, "2," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "8," means it was intended for use in an automatic transmission car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 1770 The firth three digits, "177," indicate the 177th  day of the year. The last digit, "0," is the year in which the carburetor was produced, 1980.  So this carburetor was stamped on June 25, 1980.
Transmission Date Code Y0H 30D The "Y" means the transmission as build in the Toledo, OH plant. The "0" is the year, 1980. The "H" is the sixth month of the year and the "30" is the thirtieth day of the month. The "D" is the shift in which the transmission was made. This would mean the transmission was made during the day shift in Toledo on June 30, 1980.
Transmission VIN Stamp 437069 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 437069, are stamped on the main case of the transmission and pictured below meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Alternator 1101075 The alternator is original and correct for a Corvette that has a/c with a 1101075 stamping.
Alternator Date Code 7 15 0 The "7" is the seventh month of the year. The "15" is the fifteenth day of the month. The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year meaning the alternator was made on July 15, 1980.

condition

Exterior

The Classic White exterior is in gorgeous condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth glass-like finish. Often many corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not. The underside of the front end, which is a very fragile and venerable area of the car, is in good condition as evidenced by the photos. There are no major scratches, scrapes, or other imperfections that have been excluded from the photos. The original N90 aluminum wheels are in great condition with a brilliant finish and absolutely no curb rash. As one would expect, this Corvette has absolutely NO rust issues. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette. We have included many photos of the underside of the car to show how clean and original this car is top and bottom.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette, both side windows, the rear window, the windshield, and even both T-Tops are all date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of July 23, 1980 (J23). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Oyster interior in this Corvette looks utterly splendid and nearly factory new. The original seats look amazing. They look just as good in person as they do in the photos with no holes, cracks, or split seams. Please note that these are the original seats with the original material, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The spectacular condition is especially important for Corvettes with a "12C" interior code like this car as the correct seat material is not reproduced or easily available. The carpet in the car is also in "like new" condition with no stains, rips, or holes. This includes the rear carpet. The center console components look amazing and are in excellent condition. Even the glove box light works. The original AM/FM cassette player is still in the car and most importantly the dash has never been modified for a new radio. The radio and speakers are original to the car and still work properly and sound great; even the cassette player still works. All of the gauge lenses are crisp, clear, and show no wear at all. The original door panels look excellent with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. Please note in the video below how both seat belts operate and retract properly. This is a common problem and a small, but very important, detail most buyers do not think to check. The seat belts themselves are correct, original, and still have the tags showing the date and belt information.

This is the best original interior we have ever seen in a 1980 Corvette and is a true study of how these cars looked from the factory. The jack and jack handle are still present with the car and stowed correctly behind the passenger seat, pictured below showing the original stickers on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car and still has the nubs on it. This car has never been smoked in; there are no burn marks and no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. Even very detailed items that are always broken or shabby are in great shape this car; items like the finger pulls for the rear storage compartments and the fit of the center gauge cluster down to the shift console and side trim. These Corvette interiors are not known to wear well, especially a light color like Oyster, and the magnificent condition of this original interior is a testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life by its one previous owner.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in great mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating, shifting through all the gears, braking to stop, and going through some curves. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast, especially with the extra power from the L82 engine. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, amazingly original, and correct as one can see in the photos. Even all of the upper and lower ignition shielding is still on the car as is the catalytic converter and smog pump. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, wipers, power windows, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), the blower on all speeds, power antenna, and power locks. The vent controls work so the air blows correctly out of the defroster, heater vents, and a/c vents. The a/c works and one can see the compressor engaging properly in the video below. The entire vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no effort or binding in the mechanism. Also, the headlights go up correctly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation from both switches can be observed in the video below. The one hindrance to the way this car drives is the original tires. For the purpose of showing or judging the original tires should definitely be on the car. This would be very important at an NCRS or Bloomington event. However, if the future owner would like to use this car as more of a daily driver the tires should be replaced simply due to their age. They have plenty of tread left and only 3,447 miles of use, but the rubber in any tire after 35 years should not be trusted at highway speeds. A blowout can be catastrophic on a Corvette and do a lot of body damage so if the future owner so desires we can install a brand new set of raised white letter tires on the car prior to delivery for an additional $650. The original tires would obviously be included and should definitely stay with the car. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with some new tires and the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs just as great as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1980 Corvette is in excellent driver condition. Numbers matching and originality is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see it does not get much better or more correct than this Corvette. Cars like this will become more rare and important as time goes by. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. In our experience the 1980-81 model years draw a small premium over the other late C3 Corvettes. These are the most refined and modern driving of all the third generation Corvettes, as well as the last years to feature carburation. The 1982 Corvettes came with the "Cross Fire Fuel Injection" system, which has a very bad reputation and is considered to be unsuccessful and unreliable.

The well cared for original condition, extensive documentation, and the extremely low miles make this car especially important and virtually impossible to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owner. The value of the late C3 Corvettes has gone up exponentially in recent years, this is especially true for premium examples like this car. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
