vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this very low mileage and completely numbers matching 1980 Corvette in absolutely stunning condition.  It has only traveled 50,552 original miles since new.  This is definitely one of the nicest 1980 Corvettes on the market right now.  The car looks and drives awesome and everything works; even the a/c blows cold.  It needs nothing that I know of and is ready to be enjoyed.  The Red over Doeskin is by far one of the most desirable color combinations for any Corvette of any year; this car turns heads everywhere it goes.  It is also the original color scheme as indicated by the trim tag pictured below.  This Corvette is an exceptional driver and I wouldn't hesitate to hop in and take a road trip.  The low mileage is verified by not only the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, stating the mileage as "actual."  Please peruse all of the photos and the list of numbers below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and original this Corvette really is.

The 1980 Corvette was lighter than the previous year and featured new bumper caps, cleaner lines, and integrated spoilers.  The body style was highly modernized in 1980 by these changes.  The vehicle also become much more aerodynamic with these changes, with a drag coefficient .503 in 1979 to .443.  1980 was the last year for the much more desirable fully mechanical fuel and ignition systems.  1981 went to the "computer command control" system, which is much more prone to issues.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z878AS409021 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 9,021st Corvette made for 1980.
Body Build Date C05 "C" corresponds to December, and the 05 is the fifth day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is December 5, 1979.
Engine Code V1126 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "11" is the eleventh month of year and the "26" is the twenty-sixth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on November 26, 1979.
Suffix Code ZAK This means the motor was intended for an L48 with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 409021 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 409021, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 14010207 The engine block has the correct 14010207 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date J 24 9 "J" is October, "24" is the twnety-fourth day of the month, and "9" is 1979 so the engine block was cast on October 24, 1979.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14013322 The aluminum intake manifold is correct with a 14013322 casting number.
Distributor 1103353 The distributor is correct with 1103353 stamped on the housing.
Distributor Date Code 9 G 28 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "G" denotes July, and "28" is the twenty-eighth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on July 28, 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Carburetor Main Body

17080204

The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L48 Corvette.  The fourth digit, "8," means the carb was built for 1980's production.  The fifth digit,  "0," means it was built for the 1980 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "4," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 3109 The first three digits, "310" indicate the 310th day of the year.  The last digit, "9" is the year it was produced, 1979.  So the carb  was stamped on November 6, 1979.
Starter 1998217 The starter is correct for an early production 1980 Corvette and with an automatic transmission with 1998217 stamped on the housing.
Starter Date Code 9 L 21 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "L" denotes November, and "21" is the twenty-first day of the month meaning the starter was made on November 21, 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Windshield NJ "N" is January and "J" is 1978 so the windshield was made in January of 1978.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver Window UA "U" is July and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in July of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window LA "L" is March and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in March of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear  Window CA "C" is November and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in November of 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Red exterior is in beautiful driver condition.  As one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss and smooth finish.  Often many corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not.  The underside of the front end, which is a very fragile and venerable area of the car, is in very good condition as evidenced by the photos.  There are no major scratches, scrapes, or other imperfections that have been excluded from the photos.  There may be some small blemishes that were too small to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from five or ten feet away.  There are a couple small blemishes on each side of the rear decklid and photos of the specific areas below.  The wheels are in great condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The tires are have about 80% tread left.  This Corvette has absolutely NO rust issues.  The frame is totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield.

Window Date Codes

Please note that all of glass on this car is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of December 5, 1979 (C05). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Doeskin interior of the Corvette is in utterly amazing original condition.  The interior is also extremely rare.  We have owned a few dozen 1980 Corvettes over the years and this is the only one to have this style factory interior with the cloth inserts on the seats and door panels.  The seats look great with no excessive wear Please note that these appear to be the original seats, not some cheap after market replacement.  The carpet is in nice original condition with no stains This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected.  There is one rip in the carpet in the footwall on the passenger's side.  As one can see in the photos is it hardly noticeable at all and mostly covered by the floor mat anyway.  The console and dash are in great condition with not splits or sun damage.  The door panels are in great shape and unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door.  The original t-top storage bags are included with the car and pictured below.  This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma whatsoever.  Please note that the pedal pads show appropriate wear for a car of this mileage.  Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this original interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in fine mechanical condition and everything on the car works.  It is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds.  This Corvette is ready to be used and enjoyed.  There is no smoke when starting or driving the car.  It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs well, but as with many older carbureted cars it is a bit cold-blooded.  The transmission shifts well throughout the power band.  The brakes do not pull to one side or the other.  This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast.  The catalytic converter has been removed.  Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos.  The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), wipers, blower for the heater and a/c, and power windows.  Even the power locks work as well as cruise control, and the a/c blows cold, which are all very common issues on this era Corvette.  Please note very detailed items that most buyers do not even know to look for are functional on this Corvette such as the interior delay light timer and the small light by the spare tire still work.  The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly from both the switch on the dash and the override switch.  Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the t-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1980 Corvette is in marvelous condition.  Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with more rare, collectible, and low mileage cars such as this.  The originality, the rare and desirable color combination, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate.  This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road.  It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners.  The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past several years.  They are secure and wise investments for a collector.  One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
