vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this numbers matching 1980 Corvette in beautiful condition with only 52,095 original miles. This Corvette looks great, runs well, and is an awesome driver. The car is finished in the iconic, beautiful, and highly desirable color combination of Red over Doeskin Leather. This is the car correct and original color combination as verified by the codes pictured on the trim tag below. The car is totally solid with no rust issues and has straight lines. I have personally put about 30 miles on this Corvette and during that time it was completely reliable, operated flawlessly, and was a pleasure to drive. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. We have this Corvette priced to sell. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. The very low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, list of numbers, video, and other information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1980 Corvette was lighter than the previous year and featured new bumper caps, cleaner lines, and integrated spoilers. The body style was highly modernized in 1980 by these changes. The vehicle also become much more aerodynamic with these changes, with a drag coefficient .503 in 1979 to .443. 1980 was the last year for the much more desirable fully mechanical fuel and ignition systems. 1981 went to the "computer command control" system, which is much more prone to issues.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z878AS440105 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 40,105th Corvette made for 1980.
Body Build Date K19 "K" corresponds to August, and "19" is the nineteenth day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is August 19, 1980.
Engine Code V0804 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "08" is the eighth month of year and the "04" is the fourth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on August 4, 1980.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code ZAK This means the motor was intended for an L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 440105 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 440105, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 14010207 The engine block has the correct 14010207 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date F 12 0 "F" is June, "12" is the twelfth day of the month, and "0" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on June 12,1980.
Distributor 1103353 The distributor is original and correct for an L48 that has an automatic transmission with a 1103353 stamping.
Distributor Date Code 0 C 15 The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "C" denotes march, and "15" is the fifteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on March 15, 1980. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14014432 The intake manifold has the correct 14014432 casting number.
Carburetor Main Body 17080204 The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L48 Corvette. The fourth digit, "8," means the carb was built for 1980's production. The fifth digit, "0," means it was built for the 1980 model year. The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit, "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "4," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 1330 The firth three digits, "133," indicate the 133rd day of the year. The last digit, "0," is the year in which the carburetor was produced, 1980.  So this carburetor was stamped on May 12, 1980.
Transmission VIN Stamping 440105 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 440105, are stamped on the main case of the transmission and pictured below meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Starter 1993217 The distributor is original and correct for a late build L48 that has an automatic transmission with a 1993217 stamping.
Starter Date Code 0 G 18 The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "G" denotes July, and "18" is the eighteenth day of the month meaning the starter was made on July 18, 1980. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Windshield TZ "T" is August and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in August of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver Window IZ "I" is June and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in June of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window UZ "U" is July and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in July of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear  Window UZ "U" is July and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in July of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Red exterior is in very nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the paint has an excellent gloss, nice shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut easily. The N90 aluminum wheels are in great condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The Goodyear Eagle GTII tires have plenty of tread left and are correctly sized 225/70R15. The very low front end, which is very venerable and prone to damage, is in good condition on this Corvette; one can even see the original rubber spoilers in the photos below. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some small touch ups, light scratches, and faint checking that is visible in the photos and other small blemishes around the car that were too tiny to be picked up by the camera, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. This Corvette has no rust issues. As one can see in the many photos of the underside, the frame is totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most common areas for rust on this era Corvette.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of glass on this car is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of August 19, 1980 (K19). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Doeskin Leather interior of the Corvette is in terrific original condition. The seats look in person just as they do in the photos with no excessive wear, but do have a few small splits in the common spots. The carpet is in fantastic original condition with no major stains, rips, or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The original door panels are excellent shape with no splits or tears and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and center console look awesome with no sun fading. The original jack and jack handle are still with the car and stowed correctly behind the passenger seat as one can see in the photos below with the original decals still on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car and still has the nubs on it. This car has no aroma of cigarettes whatsoever. The original black T-Top bags are pictured below and included with the car. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well, especially with light colors light Doeskin, and the amazing condition of this all original interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in great mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. It drives terrifically and it is tight on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. Even all of the upper and lower ignition shielding is still on the car as is the catalytic converter and smog pump. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, wipers, power windows, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), the blower on all speeds, power locks. The vent controls work so the air blows correctly out of the defroster, heater vents, and a/c vents, although the a/c itself does not blow cold. All of the components are in place for the a/c system and there is a belt on the compressor so the system most likely needs to be charged. The entire vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no effort or binding in the mechanism. Also, the headlights go up correctly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation from both switches can be observed in the video below. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drives just as great as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1980 Corvette is in excellent driver condition. Numbers matching and originality is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see this car is very correct. In our experience the 1980-81 model years draw a small premium over the other late C3 Corvettes. These are the most refined and modern driving of all the third generation Corvettes, as well as the last years to feature carburation. The 1982 Corvettes came with the "Cross Fire Fuel Injection" system, which has a very bad reputation and is considered to be unsuccessful and unreliable.

The well cared for original condition, the very low miles, iconic color combination, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years, especially for premium examples like this car. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
