about the dealership
Seven Hills Motorcars is Cincinnati's premier Corvette specialist and a licensed and registered auto dealer by the State of Ohio.  With many years of focused experience I specialize in 1957 to 1982 Corvettes.  There is no other dealership that can better meet your needs if you would like to buy, sell, or just find out more information about your Corvette.  This is simply a one man operation, and this is not my full time employment.  I do it because I enjoy it.  I am a collector and enthusiast and therefore look for cars that excite me.  I do not purchase at dealer auctions; each car is hand picked by me because it is special or rare to me and because I like it.

vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this low mileage and completely numbers matching 1980 Corvette in spectacular condition.  This car looks and drives awesome, needs nothing, and is ready to be used and enjoyed.  It is essentially 100% "turn key."  The car still retains its original owner's manual and other original paperwork shown in the photos including the form showing when this car as ordered new from Chris Volz Motors.  It even shows where the original owner traded in his 1974 Corvette for this 1980 Corvette.  It also includes some service and maintenance records from the pervious owner.

This car has the extremely rare and highly desirable optional 4-Speed manual transmission.  It is finished in the beautiful color combination of Red over Oyster Leather.  This is the original and correct color scheme, verified by the trim tag pictured below.  Red is always the most prized color for a Corvette and this combination is particularly attractive.  The low mileage is supported by not only the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "actual."  This Corvette is an exceptional driver and I wouldn't hesitate to hop in and take a road trip.  Please peruse all of the photos and numbers below to get a true sense of how clean and correct this Corvette really is.

The 1980 Corvette was lighter than the previous year and featured new bumper caps, cleaner lines, and integrated spoilers.  The body style was highly modernized in 1980 by these changes.  The vehicle also become much more aerodynamic with these changes, with a drag coefficient .503 in 1979 to .443.  1980 was the last year for the much more desirable fully mechanical fuel and ignition systems.  1981 went to the "computer command control" system, which is much more prone to issues.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z878AS402846 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 2,846th Corvette made for 1980.
Body Build Date A22 "A" corresponds to October, and the 22 is the twenty-second day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is October 22, 1979
Engine Code V0927 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "09" is the ninth month of year and the "27" is the twenty-seventh day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on September 27, 1979.
Suffix Code ZAM This means the motor was intended for an L48 with a manual transmission, which is correct for this car.

Engine Block Casting Number 14010207 The engine block has the correct 14010207 casting number for a 1980 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date H 16 9 "H" is August, "16" is the sixteenth day of the month, and "9" is 1979 so the engine block was cast on August 16, 1979.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.

Distributor Date Code 9J21 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "J" denotes September, and "21" is the twenty-first day of the month meaning the distributor was made on September 21, 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.

Carburetor Main Body 17080207 The carburetor has the correct stamping for a 1980 manual L48 Corvette.  The first thress digits, "170," indicate teh carb was made after 1976.  The fourth digit, "8," means the carb was built for 1980's production.  The fifth digit,  "0," means it was built for the 1980 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "7," means it was intended for use in manual transmission car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 2509 The first three digits, "250" indicate the 250th day of the year.  The last digit, "9" is the year it was produced, 1979.  So the carburetor  was stamped around September 6, 1979.

Starter Date Code 9J25 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "J" denotes September, and "25" is the twenty-fifth day of the month meaning the starter was made on September 25, 1979.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.

condition

Exterior

The bright red exterior is in beautiful driver condition.  As one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, smooth finish, and deep shine.  Often many Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not.  The underside of the front end, a very fragile part of the car, is in good condition as evidenced by the photos.  This Corvette is equipped with aluminum wheels, which are in excellent condition with a nice finish and absolutely no curb rash.  There are no major imperfections that have been excluded from the photos.  There is a spot on the front bumper, shown in the photos, and some small spots and blemishes that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from five or ten feet away.  The tires appear to have about 75% tread left.  The "blue" tint glass t-tops have no cracks or scratches.  This Corvette has absolutely NO rust issues.  The frame is totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Please note that ALL side glass on this Corvette is date coded and original to the car as each piece predates the build date of October 22, 1979.  Original glass is a good indication that the car has not been in a major accident and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Oyster Leather interior of the Corvette is also in fantastic condition.  The seats look brilliant and literally brand new with no rips, tears, or split seams.  They are not worn in the typical areas such as where the driver gets in and out.  The carpet is in good condition with no stains.  There is one tear in the carpet in the footwall on the driver's side.  As one can see in the photos is it hardly noticeable at all and covered by the floor mat anyway.  The rear carpet looks great with the exception of the one blemish on the edge; there is a specific photo of this area of the carpet.  The door panels are in nice shape with one spot on the top corner of the driver's side and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door.   The console and dash are in great condition with no fading or sun damage.  This car has not been smoked in; there are no burn marks or aroma whatsoever.  The radio features an 8-track player.  Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This car is in awesome mechanical condition, it has no issues and is ready to be enjoyed.  It is an exceptional driver that is tight on the road and at highway speeds. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other.  There is no smoke when starting or driving the car.  The clutch feels good and the car shifts great.  The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well.  It is slightly cold blooded like most older carburetored cars.  Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos.   This Corvette has plenty of power and is very fast.  The power door locks, a very common problem on this era Corvette, do work on this car, but are a bit stiff and could probably stand some lubrication.  The horn works as do the headlights, headlight override vacuum switch, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), all interior and exterior lights, power windows, and wipers.  The only item I am aware of on the car that does not work is the a/c.  The compressor is free and not locked up so the system most likely needs to be recharged.  Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the 4-speed transmission and the t-tops out on a beautiful day.

Please note that this car is completely unmolested.  The catalytic converter, smog pump, and emission equipment has not been tampered with and is still in place.

Overall
Condition

Overall this Corvette is in magnificent condition.  The 4-speed transmission makes this car particularly rare and highly desirable.  Numbers matching and originality are extremely important in Corvette pricing, and as you can see this car very original and correct.  In addition, this car is also optioned with a very rare and desirable color combination.  The value of the late C3 body style cars has gone up dramatically in the past few years.  They are all solid investments for a collector.  Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future.  Someone could drive and enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price.
