vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this numbers matching 1980 Corvette in spectacular condition and with only 59,095 original miles. This Corvette looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. I am close friends with the previous owner and he has put over 500 miles on this C3 this year and during that time is was completely reliable with no issues at all. The car is totally solid with nice lines and no rust issues.

The Red over Red Leather is one of the most striking and desirable color combinations available and looks great on the car. It is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, which is pictured below. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on the 1980 and 1981 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

This C3 has the very unique and interesting factory option V54 "Roof Panel Carrier," which is a system to store the T-tops on the back decklid of the car. There are photos below showing the T-tops installed on the roof panel carrier. We have had a few 1980 Corvettes with this option, but it is exceptionally rare for the car to come complete with all the pieces of the rack and all the straps. The roof panel carrier system on this Corvette is totally complete and functional.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z878AS409870 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car. The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 9,970th Corvette made for 1980.
Body Build Date C10 "C" corresponds to December, and "10" is the tenth day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is December 10, 1979.
Engine Code V1205 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "12" is the twelfth month of year and the "05" is the fifth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on December 5, 1979.  This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.

Engine VIN Stamping 409870 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 409870, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 10410207 The engine block has the correct 10410207 casting number, which is correct for a 1980 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date K 18 9 "K" is November, "18" is the eighteenth day of the month, and the "9" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on November 18, 1979, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14014432 The intake manifold has the correct 14014432 casting number, which was only used in 1980.
Distributor 1103353 The distributor is original and correct for a Corvette with an automatic transmission with a 1103353 stamping.
Distributor Date Code 9 H 15 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "H" denotes August, and "15" is the fifteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on August 15, 1979. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.

The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit, "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "4," means it was intended for use in an automatic transmission car such as this.

Driver's Window CA The "C" is November and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in November of 1979. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car
Passenger Window YA The "Y" is October and "A" is 1979 so this window is original, made in October of 1979. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car

condition

Exterior

The Red exterior is in nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely as do the hood and headlights and the car exhibits good body panel fit overall. The N90 aluminum wheels and center caps are in beautiful condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The tires have about 80% tread let and are correctly sized 255/60R15. As one would expect for a paintjob with this many years on it there are a few blemishes and thin spots around car that were too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette, even the windshield, is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of Decemebr 10, 1979 (C10). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Red Leather interior in this Corvette is in spectacular original condition. The seats are in excellent condition with no rips, split seams, or excessive wear. They are not overly worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats and skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet is great condition with no stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The door panels are in wonderful shape and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The jack and jack handle are still with the car, stored correctly behind the passenger seat, and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car and has never been used; it still have the nubs on it. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this almost all original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in excellent mechanical condition. As stated above the previous owner has driven the car over 500 miles this year with no issues. The car starts right away every time and runs well. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 65mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, horn, wipers, and power windows. The blower works on all speeds. The a/c also works and blows cold. One can observe the a/c compressor engaging properly in the video. All of the gauges work but the fuel gauge and the obvious exception of the clock. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. The power locks work on the passenger door, but not the driver's door. Even the interior delay light timer works. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1980 Corvette is in magnificent driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with low mileage examples like this car, and as any buyer can see this Corvette is extremely correct. The originality, the beautiful and desirable original color combination, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well cared for by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
