vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this numbers matching 1980 Corvette in excellent driver condition and with only 64,285 original miles. This Corvette looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with nice lines. It is also "numbers matching" with the last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 402061, stamped on the engine pad and pictured below indicating that this is the original engine that was installed new in the car at the factory in St. Louis. I have put about 15 miles on this Corvette and during that time it was totally reliable and a pleasure to drive.

The Silver Metallic over Oyster Leather is one of the most striking and desirable color combinations available and looks great on the car. It is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, which is pictured below. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on the 1980 and 1981 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z878AS402061 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car. The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 2,601st Corvette made for 1980.
Body Build Date A16 "A" corresponds to October, and "24" is the twenty-fourth day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is October 24, 1979.
Engine Code V1005 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "10" is the tenth month of year and the "05" is the fifth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on October 5, 1979. This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car.
Suffix Code ZAK This means the motor was intended for an L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 402061 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 402061, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 10410207 The engine block has the correct 10410207 casting number, which is correct for a 1980 Corvette.
Engine Block Casting Date J 2 9 "J" is October, "2" is the second day of the month, and the "9" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on October 2, 1979, which is correct as it predates the assembly date.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14014432 The intake manifold has a14014432 casting number, which was used L82 Corvettes in 1980.
Distributor 1103353 The distributor is original and correct for a Corvette with an automatic transmission with a 1103353 stamping.
Distributor Date Code 9J14 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "J" denotes September, and "14" is the fourteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on September 14, 1979. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Carburetor 17080204 The "170" means the carb was produced after 1976. The fourth digit, "8," means the carb was built in the 1980's. The fifth digit, "0," means it was built for the 1980 model year. The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit, "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "4," means it was intended for use in an automatic transmission car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 2769 The "283" is the 283rd day of the year and the last "9" is the last digit of the calendar year so the carburetor was made on October 2, 1979.

condition

Exterior

The Silver Metallic exterior is in nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely. The N90 aluminum wheels and center caps are in beautiful condition with a brilliant finish and no major curb rash. The tires have about 90% tread let and are correctly sized 225/70R15. As one would expect for a paintjob with this many years on it there are some scratches, touch-ups, and other blemishes around car that are visible in the photos and some other that were too tiny to show up, but nothing that is visible from about five or 10 feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire. We have included specific photos of the area on the frame which is most prone to rust.

Interior

The Oyster Leather interior in this Corvette is in excellent original condition. The seats are in good shape and look in person as they do in the photos with some slight wear. They are not overly worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the gauge lenses are crystal clear. The carpet is great condition with no stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The door panels are in goog shape overall and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look okay, but there is some wear on the right corner. The jack and jack handle are still with the car, stored correctly behind the passenger seat, and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, and the excellent condition of this almost all original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. As stated above I have put about 15 miles on this Corvette with no issues at all. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, downshifting, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, correct, and original as one can see in the photos. The car has not been modified or molested and such items as the ignition shielding, original smog pump, emissions system, and catalytic converter are all still working and in place.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, horn, wipers, and power windows. All of the gauges work and even the clock runs. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. The blower for the heater and a/c works on all speeds, but the fan switch is finicky. The power locks work to lock the driver's door and the right door is sticky. There is a common squeak from the speedo, which is audible in the video. The air conditioning worked and blew cold when we first purchased the car, but is now low on Freon. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1980 Corvette is in excellent driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with low mileage examples like this car, and as any buyer can see this Corvette is extremely correct. The originality, the beautiful original color combination, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well cared for by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
