vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this completely numbers matching 1980 Corvette in spectacular condition with only 48,960 actual miles. This car is by far one of the nicest 1980 Corvettes on the market and truly an investment grade C3. The paint is nearly flawless, the interior is spotless, and it feels fantastic out on the road. We do not normally drive our Corvettes for personal use, but I personally drove this car every day for about a week putting about 100 miles on it. During that time is was completely reliable, operated impeccably with no issues, and was an absolute pleasure to drive. It is loaded with highly desirable options such as, high performance Gymkhana Suspension, N90 aluminum wheels, glass T-tops, air conditioning (which actually still works and blows cold), power windows, power locks, power antenna (which also works), and the beautiful color scheme. The Silver over Oyster is one of the most attractive and desirable color combinations available for 1980. It is also the original color scheme as indicated by the trim tag pictured below. Silver looks particularly nice on the late C3 Corvettes and the Oyster interior is much more appealing and different from the black interior you usually see with a silver car. The low mileage is verified by not only by the condition of the car, but also the service records and the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of clean, correct, and original this Corvette really is.

We purchased this Corvette from a women in Kentucky who bought it in June of 1999 with around 30,000 miles. The car had been in her family since January of 1998 when her brother first purchased it with around 27,322 miles. Thankfully, the previous owners of this car were very meticulous and kept detailed and copious service and maintenance records dating back to the 1980's. This is not only a benefit because of the information it provides about the service history of the car and a great representation of good and careful ownership over the years, but also a great benefit to the verification of the very low original mileage. With the car is a form titled "1980 Corvette Summery and History" from the second owner of the car, which is pictured below. On the form it states that the original owner was a school teacher in Kane, PA and the second owner of the car purchased it in January of 1987 with about 21,000 miles. On June 16, 1987 a receipt for a/c service shows the car with 21,540 miles. There is a receipt from June 20, 1988 showing the mileage at 23,130. On July 27, 1995 a receipt shows the car with 26,263 miles. A receipt from February 23, 1998 from a transmission fluid and filter service shows the car with 27,522 miles. There is a receipt from August 14, 2002 for a/c service showing the car with 40,424 miles. There is a receipt for brake service and and alignment from October 2010 showing the car with 45,786 miles. The records confirm the mileage and show it increasing slowly as the car was driven sparingly over the years.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

model description

The 1980 Corvette was lighter than the previous year and featured new bumper caps, cleaner lines, and integrated spoilers. The body style was highly modernized in 1980 by these changes. The vehicle also become much more aerodynamic with these changes, with a drag coefficient .503 in 1979 to .443. 1980 was the last year for the much more desirable fully mechanical fuel and ignition systems. 1981 went to the "computer command control" system, which is much more prone to issues.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct.  This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order.  For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.  All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description*
VIN 1Z878AS437376 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.  The "Z" is the series, Corvette.  The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe.  The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car.  The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980.  The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis.  The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 37,376th Corvette made for 1980.
Body Build Date J25 "J" corresponds to July, and the 25 is the twenty-fifth day of the month meaning this Corvette's build date is July 25, 1980.
Engine Code V0714 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.  The "07" is the seventh month of year and the "14" is the fourteenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on July 14, 1980.
Suffix Code ZAK This means the motor was intended for an L48 with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 437376 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 437376, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 14010207 The engine block has the correct 14010207 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date G 2 0 "G" is July, "2" is the second day of the month, and "0" is 1980 so the engine block was cast on July 2, 1980, which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 14013322 The aluminum intake manifold is correct with a 14013322 casting number.
Distributor 1103353 The distributor is correct with 1103353 stamped on the housing.
Distributor Date Code 0 F 4 The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "F" denotes June, and "2" is the second day of the month meaning the distributor was made on June 4, 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build dates of the engine.
Carburetor Main Body

17080204

The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 350ci L48 Corvette.  The fourth digit, "8," means the carb was built for 1980's production.  The fifth digit,  "0," means it was built for the 1980 model year.  The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb.  The seventh digit,  "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM.  The last digit, "4," means it was intended for use in an automatic car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code 1790 The first three digits, "179" indicate the 179th day of the year.  The last digit, "0" is the year it was produced, 1980.  So the carb  was stamped on June 27, 1980.
Starter 1998217 The starter is correct for an early production 1980 Corvette and with an automatic transmission with 1998217 stamped on the housing.
Starter Date Code 0 G 15 The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "G" denotes July, and "15" is the fifteenth day of the month meaning the starter was made on May 5, 1980.
Windshield IZ "I" is June and "Z" is 1980 so the windshield was made in June of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Driver Window JZ "J" is May and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in May of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger  Window JZ "J" is May and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in May of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear  Window JZ "J" is May and "Z" is 1980 so this window is original, made in May of 1980.  This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.

condition

Exterior

The Silver exterior is in gorgeous condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth glass-like finish. Often many corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not. The underside of the front end, which is a very fragile and venerable area of the car, is in good condition as evidenced by the photos. There are no major scratches, scrapes, or other imperfections that have been excluded from the photos. There may be some very small blemishes that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. The original N90 wheels are in great condition with a brilliant finish. The tires appear to have have about 80% tread left. This Corvette has absolutely NO rust issues. Along with he many photos of the underside of the car we have taken specific photos of the area on the frame most prone to rust to show how clean it is.

Window Date Codes

Please note that all of glass on this car is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of July 25, 1980 (J25). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Oyster interior of the Corvette looks truly surpub. The seats are in virtually as new condition and show no signs of wear. They are not worn at all in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. The carpet is also in great condition with no stains, rips, or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The carpet on the door panels is in good shape and not faded. The door panels themselves are in good condition, fit well to the doors, and the door pulls are in tact. The dash and center console look good with no splits, sun fading, or cracks, though there is one spot on the dash in the left corner where an alarm was installed sometime in the past. The aftermarket radio and CD player works well and sounds much better than the stock radio every did. New speakers were also installed. Even the power antenna works as one can see in the video. The jack and jack handle are still present and stowed behind the passenger seat, pictured below showing the original stickers on the compartment lid. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well, especially Oyster interiors because they are so light and show dirt so easily, and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life. Even very detailed items that are almost always broken or shabby are not on this car; details such as the finger pulls for the rear storage compartment and the fit of the center gauge cluster with the shifter console and down to the parking brake console.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car drives terrifically; it is feels good on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph and then braking to stoplight. Please note that there are no strange noises, vibrations, and the car performs quite well. The transmission shifts well. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and original as one can see in the photos, even the original smog pump and catalytic converter are still in place. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock), wipers, power windows, and blower for the heater and a/c on all speeds, the power antenna works (which is a common problem on C3's), the power door locks (which is a another common problem on C3's), even the a/c compressor clicks on as one can see in the video and the blows cold. Please note very detailed items that most buyers do not even know to look for are functional on this Corvette such as the interior delay light timer and the small light by the spare tire still work. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no binding. Also, the headlights go up correctly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation from both switches can be observed in the video below. The exhaust from the cat back is newer with Dynamax mufflers, which give the car a very nice and healthy tone that is not too loud or obnoxious. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drivers as well as it looks.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1980 Corvette is in excellent driver condition. Numbers matching and originality is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see this car is very correct. In our experience the 1980-81 model years draw a small premium over the other late C3 Corvettes. These are the most refined and modern driving of all the third generation Corvettes, as well as the last years to feature carburation. The 1982 Corvettes came with the "Cross Fire Fuel Injection" system, which has a very bad reputation and is considered to be unsuccessful and unreliable.

The well cared for original condition, extensive service records, the very low miles, iconic color combination, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years, especially for premium examples like this car. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
