about the dealership
Seven Hills Motorcars is Cincinnati's premier Corvette specialist.   We are a licensed and registered auto dealer by the State of Ohio.  With many years of focused experience I specialize in 1963 to 1982 Corvettes.  There is no other dealership that can better meet your needs if you would like to buy, sell, or just find out more information about your Corvette.  This is simply a one man operation, and this is not my full time employment.  I do it because I enjoy it.  I am a collector and enthusiast and therefore look for cars that excite me.  I do not purchase at dealer auctions; each car is hand picked by me because it is special or rare to me and because I like it.

vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is especially proud to offer this stunning 1981 Chevrolet Corvette with just over 61,600 original miles.  This car needs nothing and is ready to be enjoyed.  This is a correct numbers matching car with the last 6 digits of the VIN appearing on the engine block.  The trim pad numbers, 80 and 98 are also correct for a Autumn Red/Dark Claret two tone car.  The car has had the same owner from 1991 to 2008 when I first purchased  it.  This car came from the brand new at the time Bowling Green plant.  It can be verified that the car came from Bowling Green by the 11th digit in the VIN, a "5," and by the fact that all two tone Corvettes in 1981 were built at that plant.  That also means that this car came with a high quality, more modern, multi-stage clear coat paintjob from the factory.  This car also had the very rare benefit of having totally original paint, including the bumpers.  Most Corvettes built in 1981 and every Corvette built until then in St. Louis came with a lower quality single stage lacquer paint.  This car comes with the original owners manual and original plastic distributor cover, which is not pictured, but included with the car.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

numbers

Suffix Code ZDD This means the motor was intended for an L81 with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 106087 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 106087, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 14010207 The engine block has the correct 14010207casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date E 1 1 "E" is May, "1" is the first day of the month, and "1" is the last digit of teh calendar year so the engine block was cast on May 1, 1981.  Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine.

condition

Exterior

The two tone exterior paint is in excellent condition and is totally original. The paintís finish has a high gloss.  There are no major paint defects that have been excluded from the photos.  It is incredible to find a Corvette of this vintage with original paint on the bumpers, especially in this fine condition.  These cars have very long front ends that people almost always bumped into things.  This car has survived 29 years without hitting anything.  This is in addition to the fact that these bumpers usually shrink even without collision.  There are some blemishes in the paint, but nothing that is very noticeable from 5-10 feet away.  The aluminum wheels are in excellent condition with a bright finish and absolutely no curb rash.  The bumpers are slightly faded as evidenced in the photos, but their fit and other body fit is excellent.  The low front end of this car is not overly chipped and damaged from rock chips.  Even the front spoiler, a very fragile and venerable area on these cars is in great condition and pictured.  I have seen no evidence of rust or corrosion around the windshield or on the frame.  This car has absolutely no rust issue what so ever.

All of the glass is date coded and original to the car at they predate the build date of the body.  Original glass is a great indication that the car has not been in a major accident and never sustained significant damage.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Based on my past experience I know will receive a plethora of questions about the slightly faded bumpers, small cracks, and the cost to have them resprayed so I will address that issue now.  In my opinion the car is worth more now and will definitely be worth more in the future as it is with totally original paint than it would be if the few small blemishes were repaired.  A car is only original once and as soon as any paintwork is done to this car it will no longer be totally original.  Original cars are the most rare; much harder to find than a fully restored car.  In years to come the value of this car will be much greater if it kept original.  Out of the dozens of 1980-82 Corvettes we have owned this is the one singular car that I cannot find any signs of paintwork.

Interior

The red leather interior of this Corvette is in amazing condition.  The leather seats are in beautiful shape and look literally brand new with no signs of wear.  The seat is not worn through in the typical places, such as where the driver gets in and out of the car.  I have specifically included a picture of this area of the seat.  The carpet is in great condition and looks to be original, there is a very small tear that is covered by the mat on the passenger side.  As one can see in the photos, it is virtually unnoticeable.  The rear carpet, which is often neglected, is in great condition on this car.  T-top bags are also included with the car.  The dash and center console look great with no splits, sun fading, or cracks.  Detail items such as the fit of the carpet against the center console and the pulls for the battery and storage compartments that are so fragile and usually broken, are not on this car.  The car has never been smoked in, there is no ash in the ashtray or aroma what so ever.  Corvette interiors are not known to wear well, and this car's original interior in such great condition is a testament to the loving care this car has received throughout the years.

The interior of this Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette is in excellent mechanical condition; absolutely everything on this car works and it is essentially "turn key".  There are no issues at all with the performance or drivability of this Corvette.  All of the options work, the headlights go up and down perfectly, and all of the lights and gauges work, even the A/C and cruise control work.  The car starts right away, drives exceptionally, and brakes straight.  It is very tight on the road and at highway speeds with no strange noises or vibrations.  As one can see from the photos the engine compartment looks awesome and extremely clean.  This Corvette has plenty of power and is very fast.  The car now has a true dual exhaust system with a very healthy tone and no catalytic converter.  Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car.

Also, for any 1981 Corvette you may look at, be sure to check the "check engine" light.  The light should go on when the key is turned on then quickly go off when the car is started as a confirmation that the light is working.  That majority of these cars have had the bulb removed to mask other problems.  The "check engine" light on this car operates just as it should, going on with the car as a check and then going off when started.

Overall
Condition

Overall this Corvette is in outstanding condition, both the exterior and interior.  The originality of this car makes it extremely rare and impossible to reproduce; a car is only original once.  Corvettes from 1980 to 1982 are highly collectable and have continued to appreciate in value over recent years.  They are solid investments and will provide you with years of enjoyment.  One could easily own this car for several years and sell it for more than the purchaser price.  This is a very great opportunity to own a very distinguished car.  This one is by far one of the nicest, most original, and correct 1981 Corvettes available.  They are very much fun to drive and own.  This Corvette always turns heads and is admired by every car enthusiast.
