Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this truly beautiful
numbers matching 1981 Corvette in stunning condition with only
81,830 original miles. This Corvette looks great, runs well, and is
an awesome driver. It is finished in the highly attractive color
combination of Charcoal Metallic(84) over Red Leather(752). In our experience
this is the most desirable color scheme offered for the 1980-82
Corvettes. These are the correct and original colors as verified by
the codes on the trim tag, pictured below. It is very handsome and
dignified; everyone who sees this car comments on and loves the
color. This 1981 Corvette is totally solid with no rust issues and straight lines.
This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used
and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car
now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. The low
original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured
below, showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos,
numbers, and video below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is.
As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.
We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our
Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone
that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.
We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the
car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each
picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so
you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a
question about the Corvette, just give us a call.
Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the
correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but
all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This
means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the
correct order. For example, all of the dates for the
individual engine components and the engine casting date should
obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the
parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.
All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated
first digit, "1," indicates that the US is the
country of origin. The "G" is the
manufacturerer, GM. The third digit, "1," is the
make, Chevrolet. The fourth digit, "A," is the
restraint system, manual belts. The fifth digit,
"Y," is the series, Corvette. The "87," is
the body style, 2-door sport coupe. The eighth digit "6" is the
engine, L81. The ninth digit is a check that car vary
from car to car. The tenth digit, "B" is the model year,
1981. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St.
Louis. The last five digits are a
sequence number so this is the 14,08th Corvette made for
1981 in St, Louis.
Body Build Date
"E" corresponds to December, and the 12 is the
twelfth day of the
month meaning this Corvette's body build date is December 12, 1980.
"V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant.
The "12" is the twelfth month of year and the
"10" is the
tenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on
December 10, 1980. This is correct as it precedes the build
date of the car.
This means the motor was intended for a Corvette with an
transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping
The last 6 digits of the car's VIN,
414108, are stamped on
the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number
The engine block has the correct 14010207 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date
L 9 0
December, "9" is the ninth day of the month, and "0"
is 1980 so the engine block was cast on December 9, 1980.
Which is correct as it predates the assembly date of the
The distributor is original and correct with a 1103443 stamping.
Distributor Date Code
The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "L"
denotes November, and "06" is the sixth day of the
month meaning the distributor was made on November 6, 1980.
This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the
Carburetor Main Body
The "170" means the carb was produced after 1976. The fourth digit,
"8," means the carb was built in the 1980's. The fifth digit, "1," means it was built for the 1981
model year. The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL
carb. The seventh digit, "1," means is was built for the
Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "8," means it was
intended for use in an automatic transmission car such as this.
Carburetor Date Code
The firth three digits, "325," indicate the 325th day of the
year. The last digit, "0," is the year in which the
carburetor was produced, 1980. So this carburetor was
stamped on November 21, 1980.
Intake Manifold Casting Number
The intake manifold has a 14033058 casting number, which is
correct for a 1981 Corvette
information obtained from Alan A. Colvin's Corvette by the Numbers
and Mike Antonick's Corvette Black Book.
Metallic exterior is in very nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the
paint has a dazzling gloss and deep shine. This color really
shows off the lines of this car better than most any other. The car exhibits
good body panel fit overall for a C3 Corvette. The previous
owner stated that the car has been painted within the past two
years so it still looks very nice. There are no major imperfections that have been
intentionally excluded from the photos. There still is a small
nick or touch up here or there, but as one can see in all the
close up photos nothing that is very noticeable. The factory N90 aluminum wheels are in great shape with a nice finish.
The tires are literally brand new with less than 20 miles on
them. As one can see in the photos of the
underside of the car, this Corvette has NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is
totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have
seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield.
The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in
Medium Red interior of the Corvette looks truly superb. The seats
are in virtually as new condition and show no signs of wear.
They are not worn at all in the typical
area where the driver gets in and out. The carpet is also in
"like new" condition
with no stains, rips, or holes. The dash and center
console look fantastic with no splits, sun fading, or
cracks. The door panels are in good condition. The car has never been smoked in, there is no ash in the
ashtray or aroma what so ever. The jack and jack handle are
present and stowed behind the passenger seat, pictured below
showing the original stickers on the compartment lid. The original
radio turns on, but does not make any sound, however the power antenna goes up
and down with the radio properly. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the
excellent condition of this interior is a testament
to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's
life. Even very detailed items that are almost always
broken or shabby are not on this car; the fit of
the center gauge cluster with the shifter console and down
to the parking brake console.
The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the
This car seems to be in very good mechanical condition.
Some very beneficial service records are included with the car
and pictured below. Included within these records are some for a
complete engine rebuilt in August of 1996 at 69,764 Miles with a
cost of over $2,760 back then. This means that there are
currently only 12,000 on the engine. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles
okay. The car drives terrifically; it is tight on the road and at highway speeds. There are no
strange noises or vibrations. The transmission shifts well. The car was
recently serviced with literally a complete new brake system
including all new calipers, all new hard brake lines front and
rear, all new rubber lines at each wheel, and a new master
cylinder so the brakes are
responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This
Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine
compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and original as one can see in
the photos, even the original smog pump is still in place. The horn works as
do all the exterior lights, all gauges, wipers, power windows, and blower for the
heater and a/c on all speeds.
The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no
binding. Also, the headlights go up correctly with either the
headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete
operation from both switches can be observed in the video below.
There are a few items on the car that are not functional such as
the power locks, which is a very common problem on this era
Corvette, power mirrors, which worked when we fist purchased the
car, and the a/c, which most likely just needs to be recharged
as the system is totally complete and the compressor is not
locked up. This Corvette has a very healthy tone from the Magnaflow exhaust
as one can hear in the video, but is not too loud or obnoxious.
The factory "Y" pipe has been upgraded to a true dual exhaust
system. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to
drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.
Also, for any 1981
Corvette you may look at, be sure to verify that the
"check engine" light is working correctly. The light
should go on when the key is turned on as a confirmation
that the light is working, then quickly go off when the
car is started. A great number of these 1981 Corvettes
have had the bulb removed to mask other problems. As one
can observe in the video the "check engine" light on
this car operates just as it should, going on with the
car as a check and then going off when started.
Overall, this 1981 Corvette is in
fantastic driver condition. Numbers matching and originality is extremely important in Corvette pricing
and as one can see this car is very correct. In our
experience the 1980-81 model years draw a small premium
over the other late C3 Corvettes. These are the most
refined and modern driving of all the third generation
Corvettes, as well as the last years to feature
carburation. The 1982 Corvettes came with the "Cross
Fire Fuel Injection" system, which has a very bad
reputation and is considered to be unsuccessful and
The well cared for original
condition, the low miles, highly desirable color
combination and the great
extent to which the numbers match make this car especially
important and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is
very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by
its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have
increased drastically over the past years, especially for
premium examples like this car. They are secure
and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell
it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
