Seven Hills Motorcars is
Cincinnati's premier Corvette specialist anda
licensed and registered auto dealer by the State of Ohio. With
many years of focused experience I specialize in 1963 to 1982 Corvettes.
There is no other dealership that can better meet your needs if you
would like to buy, sell, or just find out more information about your
Corvette. This is simply a one man operation, and this is not my
full time employment. I do it because I enjoy it. I am a
collector and enthusiast and therefore look for cars that excite me.
I do not purchase at dealer auctions; each car is hand picked by me
because it is special or rare to me and because I like it.

combinations of Cameo White over Firethorn Red deluxe interior. This
is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured

description
The Can Am package was specific to
Le Mans cars painted Cameo White which were then accessorized in
striking orange, red and yellow graphics as well as blacked-out
lower panels and window trim. The standard road wheel was a
color-matched Rally II with chrome trim rings, as shown at right.
Many options were available, including the same aluminum "snowflake"
wheels offered on the Trans Am, and a steel or glass sunroof.
Interior trim color options were the same as the base Le Mans, and
included red, black, white and tan.
The number of Can Ams
produced has never been accurately determined, but the
number most commonly used is 1,377. Complete Le Mans coupes
were shipped by Pontiac to Jim Wangers' Motortown business
which carried out the various Can Am appearance
modifications, including those relating to the hood, rear
deck spoiler and body decals. According to the Can Am
Registry in late 2007, 42 cars feature the Oldsmobile 403
engine, outwardly identified by "6.6 LITRE" decals on the
hood shaker. The rest of the cars on the Registry have the
Pontiac 400 engine, designated "T/A 6.6" on the hood shaker
decals. The Pontiac Historical Service (PHS) can determine
whether a car is a genuine Can Am, and list the options as
it was delivered from the factory.
When the Can Am was first
introduced to the dealers, Pontiac envisioned producing
2,500 units; the response from the buying public was much
more than expected and over 5,000 orders were submitted.
Unfortunately, the mold used to produce the fiberglass rear
spoiler broke, and production at Motortown, Inc. (where the
Le Mans Sport Coupes destined to become Can Ams were sent)
ceased. Pontiac upper management, already worried about
losing sales of their Grand Prix models (the Can Am and the
Grand Prix used the same dashboard and console, so a sale of
a Can Am was seen as a loss of a sale of a Grand Prix by
some senior Pontiac executives), decided to scrap the
project after approximately one half year of production.
Built with the Pontiac 400
engine, the Can Am came with the three speed automatic TH400
and 3.08 rear gears. When built with the Olds 403 engine,
the Can Am came with the three speed automatic TH350 and
2.41 rear gears. There were no four speed manual
transmission Can Ams produced. However, one Can Am has been
restored and modified with a conversion to a Super T10
manual transmission using all-GM factory parts, from various
years of the 73-77 GM A-body0 Z28 came with the
extremely popular Z28 hood which included a rear-pointing raised
scoop (air induction) with a solenoid
operated flap which opened at full throttle, allowing the engine to
breathe cooler air.. The 1980 Z28 also offers unique style upper and
lower front grill and smaller revised graphics on its lower-door
decals. The side scoops were also changed from a louvered design to
a flatter one with a single opening.
condition
Exterior
The Cameo
White exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can see
in the photos, the paint has a nice gloss, good shine, and
smooth finish and was recently painted with new Can Am decals
applied. The chrome trim and decals show well on the car.
The snowflake
wheels are in great condition with a nice finish and no curb
rash. Both bumpers are in nice shape with the exception
of some dents on the left rear corner, there is a specific photo
of the area below. There are no major
scratches,
scrapes, or other imperfections that have been intentionally
excluded from the photos. There
are some very small blemishes that were too faint up in photos, but nothing that is really
noticeable from just five feet away. Tires are sized 225/70/15
with about 80% tread left. The Can Am decal package is a nice
compliment to the White paintwork, and really make the car pop.
Louvered quarter windows, special Can Am only Trunk spoiler, and
Shaker scoop are all in excellent shape. All weather stripping
is in great usable condition. Trunk is complete and nicely
detailed with spare tire, jack and accessories.
The Can Am looks just as good in person as it does in the
photos.
Interior
The Firethorn Red deluxe interior
of the Can Am looks splendid.
The seats are in
very good condition overall with no holes. They are not worn
through in the typical areas such as where the driver gets in and out,
however, there is one small split seam on the right rear
seat. It is not very noticeable and there is a
specific photo of the spot below. The carpet looks like new
with no major stains, rips, or holes. The original dash is
in good condition with no major cracks, fading, or sun
damage. There is one small blemish with a close up photo
below. All of the gauges
work as they should outside of the clock and oil pressure
gauge. The door panels look great
with no cracks or splits, which is a notorious problem on
the arm pads of these cars, and both door pulls are solid and
in tact. The headliner is in nice shape, in tact, not
sagging or falling down. The package tray is original
and not wasted, but does show its age, there are specific
photos of it below. This car has
not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever. Old GM
interiors are not known to wear well and the great condition
of this interior is a testament to the care this car has
received throughout its life.
The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the
photos.
Mechanical
This Can Am seems
to be in
very nice mechanical condition and all of the accessories work.
Many resources and much time have gone into making this Can Am an
exceptional driver that feels great on the road and highway
speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It
starts right away every time, idles well, and runs excellent.
The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band. The brakes
are responsive and do not
pull what so ever as new calipers, brake pads, rear brake shoes,
brake drums, and master cylinder were all recently installed.
Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see
from the photos. The horn works as do the wipers, and blower on
all setting except high. The only item that I am aware of that
does not work on the car is the a/c. The catylitic
converter has been removed and the car now has true dual
exhaust. This Can Am has plenty of power and drives nicely. Not enough
can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this
car.
Below you will see a picture of a folder of
receipts totaling well over $3000 in recent engine and
mechanical work. Also, the car is freshly painted in factory
colors with new Can Am decal kit(which cost $450 by it self).
For example: $1400 for engine maintenance work, heater core
replacement, new power steering pump, new fuel pump, etc., $240
for new intake, $300 for new carb. $83 for new PS pump, $23 for
new water pump, plus new spark plugs, dist. cap and wires, etc.
etc. etc. It is easy to see the undeniable value this car
presents.
Overall Condition
Overall, this 1977 Can Am in excellent
driver condition. There are hardly any Can Am's on the market
right now and ours is definitely priced lower than any other in
similar condition. It is a great value and we have it priced to
sell. This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever
it goes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in
recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or
the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson
stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for
several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with
minimal effort.
PHS documents are also included with the
sale verifying the authenticity of this Can Am and showing that
it was originally shipped to Dave White Pontiac in Indianapolis,
IN on May 14, 1977. Also, several original documents and
booklets are included with the sale, such as: owners
manual, maintenance schedule, warranty booklets, consumer
information, etc.
