the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured below
as well as the PHS documentation. The low original mileage is
verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear
Ohio title, pictured below, stating the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos
and video below to get
a true sense of clean and nice this Trans Am really is.
Please note that is Trans Am is numbers matching meaning the
last six digits of he VIN are stamped on the engine block.
Also stamped on the block is the code "XA," which is correct
for an L78 400ci engine with an automatic transmission.
The car rolled off the assembly line during the fifth week
of June in 1977, verified by the build date of the trim tag
As a side note, this Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle.
We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our

picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so
you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a
question about the Pontiac, just give us a call.
Let me start saying that 1976 was
the first year for Special Editions, in 1976 Pontiac would
celebrate their 50th anniversary, and by the way they built
very few of them, therefore considered rare. 1977 was the
year the movie Smokey and the Bandit was released and they
used a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition in that film,
making the 1977 TA an instant hit . We don't know for sure
why, but Pontiac did not stamped the code Y82 on the cowl
tags, at least I have not seen any in 76-77 models, so here
is some tips to help you figure if your car is SE or not.
All Y82 Trans Ams had black exterior (cowl tag must show 19L
19U), they all had Gold Birds decals, German style lettering
, Gold pin stripping all around and Gold front grilles. The
interior was not necessarily black, we have seen and
restored SE's with red interior, white , Tan. As per
interior, all the SE's came with Gold swirled dash bezel and
gold spokes on the steering wheel. Most of them had Deluxe
interior, but there are exceptions, we have seen many with
standard interior. In 1977 the exterior emblems used were
RED, not gold as many folks think (arrow head on the nose
and wheel caps emblems), the door emblems and the shifter
emblem all were gold , they were all gold in 1978 and up,
not in 1977. 1977 Special Editions came with 15 x 7
snowflake rims with gold painted inserts, 1976 came with
gold polycast honeycomb rims. All Y82's came with HURST t
tops in 1976 and 1977 , in 1978 you would only find hurst t
tops on car produced before March 1978, after that they came
with bigger t tops from "Fisher" but if you wanted a SE with
non tops this was also possible, and the code for that would
have been Y81code. So now you know what are the basics to
recognize a Special Edition, but honestly that's not enough
proof. Now days you can buy all the necessary parts to make
any black TA look a like a Y82, this said you need to look
further. The only way to know that your car is a real SE is
through 2 important papers:
1- THE BUILD SHEET or
2- the WINDOW STICKER
and Gold exterior is in fully restored excellent condition. A full
restoration was completed less than a year ago with less than
500 miles driven on this stunning TA since so the paint is
almost like new. The special edition decals and gold stripping
are new and were professionally applied and look amazing. As one
can see in the photos, the paint has an awesome gloss, dazzling
shine, and smooth finish. The window trim and other bright work
looks new as well. Often Trans Am's will have particularly
chipped up front ends; this car does not. The low front spoiler,
which is very fragile and prone to damage, is in excellent
condition as one can see in the photos.
It is evident that
there has been some rust repair done to the lower rear quarters
just behind the rear wheels and the tail panel. Both bumpers are in
excellent shape with no flaking paint. The 15x7 original snow
flake wheels are in fully restored excellent condition with no
curb rash and a great finish. All weather stripping is in new
excellent condition. The trunk is nicely detailed with spare tire,
canister, jack, base, and new correct trunk mat.
Trans Am has a stamping on
the radiator core support, which is pictured below.
The core support shows a "5
16 77" stamp, or May 16, 1977. This
stamping would be correct and original as it precedes
the car's build date of the fifth week of June, 1977
(06E). As one can imagine, if this Trans Am had
ever sustained even a minor front end collision this
part would have been repaired or replaced. The
original stamping is great to see in tact.

The black standard interior of the
Trans Am looks utterly splendid. The new correct seat covers
are in like new condition with virtually no wear. The carpet
is also in like new condition with no major stains, rips, or
holes. The original dash is in excellent condition with no
cracks, fading, or sun damage. The original style correct 8
track radio sounds amazing and the dash remains un cut, and
comes with a authentic Jerry Reed 8 track. All interior
lights and gauges work as they should, minus the temp.
gauge. The newly installed door panels look excellent with
no cracks or splits. The headliner is in great shape with no
holes or stains and no sagging. The package tray looks great
with no warping, fading, or sun damage. This car has not

This Trans Am is
in excellent mechanical condition and it is ready to be enjoyed.
The original numbers matching engine is in great running
condition with only 86,700 miles on the odometer. This Trans Am
is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at
highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the
car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs
excellent. The brake system was just treated to new calipers,
new pads, new rotors, new brake shoes, new wheel cylinders.
The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the
other. New true
dual exhaust with no catyltic converter was recently installed on the car.
The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, wipers, and blower motor
for the heater. The
speedometer, tachometer, odometer, oil pressure, fuel, and
battery gauges all work as they should. The tires are older, but
that appear to have about 90% tread left and have a very correct
look for the era of this car. This Trans Am has lots of power and handles
amazingly. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure
it is to drive this car, especially on a beautiful day with the t-tops removed.
Overall, this 1977 PHS Documented Special
Edition Trans Am is in excellent winning condition. It is a
great value and we have it priced to sell.
Anniversary and Special edition GM classics always hold a high
premium over their stand counterparts and this is especially
true with the SE Trans Am's. Verifiable originally is also
extremely important in pricing on these cars and as one can see
this Pontiac is documented and undoubtedly a correct SE. This car turns heads
and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these
cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all
solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast.
Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future. One
could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it
for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
