Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this PHS documented 1977 Special Edition Y82 Trans Am with the numbers matching 400ci W72 engine. It is in great stock condition inside and out and priced to sell. This Trans Am is loaded with highly sought after options such as: removable T-tops, factory air conditioning, power windows, tilt wheel, deluxe vinyl interior, rear defrost, W72 high performance engine, etc., and of course the legendary Y82 special edition package. This Special Edition is the epitome of cool and is infamous from its staring role in the Smokey and the Bandit movie. Everywhere you go in this car you will get fond looks and thumbs up, its a true piece of authentic American History. This Trans Am has been well preserved its entire existence and is in very original condition to this day. This Trans Am looks good, runs awesome, and is fun to drive. It is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Starlight Black paint with Gold SE stripping over Buckskin deluxe vinyl interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured below as well as the PHS documentation. We actually took this Trans Am on an 80 miles road trip and during that time it was perfectly reliable, performed well, and was a blast to drive. Please peruse all of the photos, video, and information below to get a true sense of how correct and nice this Trans Am really is.

Please note that this Trans Am is numbers matching meaning the last six digits of he VIN, "27N1193257," are stamped on the engine block, which is pictured below. The "2" indicates the Pontiac division of GM, the "7" is the model year, 1977, and the "N" is the plant where the car was produced, Norwood. Also stamped on the block is the code "Y6," which is correct for an 400ci W72 High Performance engine. The transmission is also correct and original to the car with the VIN stamp on the main case pictured below. The car rolled off the assembly line during the third week of April 1977; the build date on the trim tag, "04C," is pictured below. All of the trim and color codes on the trim tag are also correct for the car.

The market on the 1977 and 1978 Y82 Trans Ams is absolutely red hot right now and they are skyrocketing in value. There are only a handful available at any given time and they are truly one of the hottest spots in the American classic car market right now. This fact is boosted even more by the release of the new Smokey and the Bandit movie and Burt Reynolds personal Y82 selling for $480,000. Whenever we get one of these cars in stock they always generate a great flurry of activity. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in the years to come.

As a side note, this Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Pontiac, just give us a call.

Special Edition Y81 & Y82 :1976-1978

Let me start saying that 1976 was the first year for Special Editions, in 1976 Pontiac would celebrate their 50th anniversary, and by the way they built very few of them, therefore considered rare. 1977 was the year the movie Smokey and the Bandit was released and they used a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition in that film, making the 1977 TA an instant hit . We don't know for sure why, but Pontiac did not stamped the code Y82 on the cowl tags, at least I have not seen any in 76-77 models, so here is some tips to help you figure if your car is SE or not. All Y82 Trans Ams had black exterior (cowl tag must show 19L 19U), they all had Gold Birds decals, German style lettering , Gold pin stripping all around and Gold front grilles. The interior was not necessarily black, we have seen and restored SE's with red interior, white , Tan. As per interior, all the SE's came with Gold swirled dash bezel and gold spokes on the steering wheel. Most of them had Deluxe interior, but there are exceptions, we have seen many with standard interior. In 1977 the exterior emblems used were RED, not gold as many folks think (arrow head on the nose and wheel caps emblems), the door emblems and the shifter emblem all were gold , they were all gold in 1978 and up, not in 1977. 1977 Special Editions came with 15 x 7 snowflake rims with gold painted inserts, 1976 came with gold polycast honeycomb rims. All Y82's came with HURST t tops in 1976 and 1977 , in 1978 you would only find Hurst T-tops on car produced before March 1978, after that they came with bigger t tops from "Fisher" but if you wanted a SE with non tops this was also possible, and the code for that would have been Y81code. So now you know what are the basics to recognize a Special Edition, but honestly that's not enough proof. Now days you can buy all the necessary parts to make any black TA look a like a Y82, this said you need to look further. The only way to know that your car is a real SE is through 2 important papers:

1- THE BUILD SHEET or 2- the WINDOW STICKER

condition

Exterior

The Black and Gold exterior is in nice driver condition. The paint has a nice gloss and dazzling shine; it is extremely reflective as one can see in the photos and video. The SE hood bird and other decals are in great shape and are not faded or peeling. The Gold 15"x7" snowflake wheels are in nice condition with no curb rash and have an brilliant finish. The BF Goodrich tires have about 90% tread left. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some small blemishes around the car but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away, but overall the car looks in person as it does in the photos. Actually, the car looks much better in person in natural light than it does in our shop under the harsh T5HO fluorescent lamps. The trunk is very solid and nicely detailed with the original spare tire, jack, jack base, lug wrench, and original trunk mat. The weather stripping around the car does appear to be original and shows its age in places. Like with most of these F bodies there has been some metal and rust repair completed over the years. We have intentionally included many photos of the underside and the areas that are most prone to rust, such as the lower quarters front and rear as well as the rocker panels, door jams, and dash corners, to show how nice this car looks.

This Trans Am has a stamping on the radiator core support, which is pictured below. The core support shows a "1 24 77 stamp, or January 24, 1977. This stamping would be correct and original as it precedes the car's build date of the third week of April, 1977 (04C). As one can imagine, if this Trans Am had ever in the past sustained even a minor front end collision this part would have been repaired or replaced. The original stamping is great to see in tact.

The Trans Am looks in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The original doeskin deluxe vinyl interior of the Trans Am looks splendid. The seats are in great condition with no rips, split seams, or signs of excessive wear and are in great overall condition. The carpet is in great condition with no major stains, rips, or holes. As one can see in the video below gauges work as they should with the obvious exception of the clock. The original door panels look great with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is in great shape with no holes, stains, and not sagging at all. The package tray looks good but does appear to be original showing a little age. The radio works and gets some reception, but is not that loud. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. Please note in the video below how both seat belts operate and retract properly. This is a very common problem on this era "F-Body" and a small, but very important, detail most buyers do not think to check.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Trans Am appears to be in good mechanical condition and it is ready to be enjoyed. The original numbers matching engine is in great running condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car is an nice driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, braking to stop sign, going through some curves, and shifting through all the gears. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. In the video below when the car is started stone cold please notice how it idles high as it should for a short period of time then correctly steps down to normal low idle when the accelerator pedal is tapped. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The transmission shifts smoothly. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This drive line is virtually unmolested including the exhaust on the car which still retains the factory catalytic converter and the transverse style muffler with stock exit pipes with factory splitters. Also, the engine compartment is clean and nicely detailed as one can see in the photos. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, interior courtesy lights, wipers, and blower on all speed settings. The a/c system is complete with compressor, condenser, and all the lines in place, but there is no belt on the compressor and the a/c does not work. The speedometer, tachometer, odometer, oil pressure, fuel, and battery gauges all work as they should. This Trans Am has lots of power being a factory ordered W72 high performance engine car and handles amazingly. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially on a beautiful day with the T-Tops off.

Overall Condition

this 1977 PHS Documented Special Edition Trans Am is in very nice stock overall driver condition. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. Anniversary and Special Edition GM classics always hold a high premium over their standard counterparts and this is especially true with the Y82 SE Trans Am's and even more so with high performance options such as the W72 engine. Verifiable originality is also extremely important in pricing on these cars and as one can see this Pontiac is documented and undoubtedly a correct SE. While we completely believe that this car has original mileage of 78,370 the title is marked as "Nonactual," most likely due to a typo on a previous document years ago. The previous owner also stated to us that he thought the mileage was actual. This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of Special Edition Pontiacs, or "Bandit Cars" as some call them, is currently skyrocketing. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
