vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer our 1978 Formula for sale in excellent driver condition and priced to sell. This beautiful Formula features a rare driveline consisting of a manual 4 speed transmission with a Chevy V8 engine as ordered from the factory. This car has a very nice professional exterior repaint in original Martinique Blue with new Formula decals. The Black deluxe vinyl interior is in excellent stock condition. This is the correct and factory original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag pictured below. Also included are the original Bill of Sale, a partial build sheet, and PHS documents authenticating the car. It looks great, runs awesome, and is fun to drive. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Formula that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. Please peruse all of the photos, video, and information below to get a true sense of nice this Formula really is.

We have personally driven this Trans Am almost 1,000 miles in the past few months. During that time the car ran great, was completely reliable, and a true pleasure to drive. I wouldn't hesitate to hop in and take a road trip right now.

The engine has been rebuilt and during the process the block was decked. When that occurs the VIN stamp on the engine block is machined off. That means that it cannot be verified that the engine is original to the car. The transmission is correct and original with the last six digits of the VIN, 192258, stamped on the main case and pictured below. The car has a very late build date and rolled off the assembly line during the first week of August 1978; the build date on the trim tag, "08A," is pictured below. All of the trim and color codes on the trim tag are also correct for the car.

As a side note, this Formula is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Pontiac, just give us a call.

condition

Exterior

The Martinique Blue exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a beautiful gloss, great shine, and smooth finish. This Formula was recently treated to a quality repaint with all new Formula decals applied. The body is very strait and both doors open and shut nicely. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There may be some small blemishes that were too faint to show up, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. The tires are virtually brand new and are sized 245/60/15. The 15x7 OEM snowflake wheels are in like new condition with correct in stainless steel center caps and new lug nuts. The trunk is solid, clean, and nicely detailed with correct spare tire and jack. We have intentionally included many photos of the underside of the car as well as the areas that are most prone to rust such as the lower quarters front and rear, the rocker panels, tail panel, and spring perches.

This Formula has a stamping on the radiator core support, which is pictured below. The core support appears to show a "6 01 78" stamp, or June 1, 1978. This stamping would be correct and original as it precedes the car's build date of the first week of august, 1978 (08A). As one can imagine, if this Pontiac had ever sustained even a minor front end collision this part would have been repaired or replaced. The original stamping is great to see in tact. Also, both front fenders are dated 1978.

The Formula looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The deluxe black vinyl interior of this Formula is in excellent condition. The seat are in virtually like new condition with no excessive wear in anyway and no seam splits or rips. The carpet is also in like new condition with no major stains, rips, or holes. The original dash is in excellent condition with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. A very nice working Realistic AM/FM Cassette stereo is properly installed and thankfully the dash remains uncut for an aftermarket stereo. All interior lights work, even the glove box light. The door panels look great with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner and package tray are both in excellent condition with no sagging, warping or fading. This car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. Please note in the video below how both seat belts operate and retract properly. This is a very common problem on this era "F-Body" and a small, but very important, detail most buyers do not think to check. These Firebird interiors are not known to wear well over time and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Formula is in great mechanical condition and is ready to be enjoyed. The mechanics and the way this car runs and drives are some of its strongest points. This Formula is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to a stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts well, runs great, there are no strange noises or vibrations, and the car performs quite nice overall. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs excellent. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The transmissions shift well, does not pop out of gear, and the clutch feels good. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. A true Dual exhaust was just installed on this car from headers to new splitter tips, 2.5" pipes with Flowmaster 40 mufflers. The exhaust note at idle and cruising speeds is just awesome. As with many cars with older headers there is slight sound of an exhaust leak. The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, all gauges (even the clock works), wipers, and blower for the heater on all speeds. This is a factory ordered Non A/C car which removes a lot of clutter from the engine bay and has that true old school muscle car appearance. This Formula has lots of power and handles nicely. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially on a beautiful day rowing through the gears.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1978 Formula is in excellent driver condition. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. The rarity, documentation, and recent mechanical work make this car particularly desirable. This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
